In this paper, we propose a two-step tone-mapping algorithm to convert a high dynamic range (HDR) image to a low dynamic range (LDR) image. The first step S1 constructs a global tone mapping which optimizes between uniform quantization and histogram equalization. The second step S2 improves the visual quality by optimizing between global operation and local contrast maintenance. Both S1 and S2 can operate independent of each other. Simulation results suggest that proposed tone mapping algorithm can give good visual quality, with S1+S2 better than S1 alone. Simulation results also suggest that proposed S2 can be combined with other existing tone mapping methods to achieve improved local contrast.

This paper presents the issues related to efficient transmission of encoded video (such as H.264) over wireless links using the TFRC protocol. It proposes a novel mechanism that utilizes cross-layer approaches for adaptation of the power transmission level of the sender and feedback information regarding the wireless connection status from the receiver for improved transmission statistics and therefore user experience without unnecessary power consumption. The mechanism is tested through simulations using ns2. Compared to the operation of the video transmission without the mechanism, we observe that it has benefits in terms of video quality.

Due to the mutual interference and sharing of wireless links in TDMA wireless sensor networks, conflicts will occur when data messages are transmitting between nodes. The broadcast scheduling problem (BSP) is aimed to schedule each node in different slot of fixed length frame at least once, and the objective of BSP is to seek for the optimal feasible solution, which has the shortest length of frame slots, as well as the maximum node transmission. A two-stage mixed algorithm based on a fuzzy Hopfield neural network is proposed to solve this BSP in wireless sensor network. In the first stage, a modified sequential vertex coloring algorithm is adopted to obtain a minimal TDMA frame length. In the second stage, the fuzzy Hopfleld network is utilized to maximize the channel utilization ratio. Experimental results, obtained from the running on three benchmark graphs, show that the algorithm can achieve better performance with shorter frame length and higher channel utilizing ratio than other exiting BSP solutions.

Distributed Virtual Environment systems simulate the behaviour and activities of a great number of users interacting in a virtual world over a wide area network. The sizes of the virtual worlds and the tremendous number of users that DVEs are called to support require additional bandwidth and computational resources. For handling these growing requirements a lot of work has been done both to the direction of alternative architectural solutions as well as to techniques and algorithms for handling the limitations of these environments. For supporting large-scale DVEs, extended infrastructure is needed in terms of both hardware and software. However, both researchers and application designers do not always have access to such extended infrastructure and the assessment and evaluation of developed techniques becomes extremely difficult. To this direction, this paper presents a simulation modelling tool for networked servers DVEs that could be used by designers for simulating the performance of their approaches under different scenarios.

In recent years much effort has been made for the development of a special kind of bacterial memetic algorithm for optimization and training of the fuzzy neural network parameters. In this approach the FNN parameters have been encoded in a chromosome and participate in the bacterial mutation cycle.
