There are both associations and differences between structured and unstructured data mining. How to unite them together to be a united theoretical framework and to guide the research of knowledge discovery and data mining has become an urgent problem to be solved. On the base of analysis and study of existing research results, the united model of knowledge discovery state space (UMKDSS) is presented, and the structured data mining and the complex type data mining are associated together. UMKDSS can provide theoretical guidance for complex type data mining. An application example of UMKDSS is given at last.

In this work we discuss parallel preconditioning techniques for the bidomain equations, a non-linear system of partial differential equations which is widely used for describing electrical activity in cardiac tissue. We focus on the solution of the linear system associated with the elliptic part of the bidomain model, since it dominates computation, with the preconditioned conjugate gradient method. We compare different parallel preconditioning techniques, such as block incomplete LU, additive Schwarz and multigrid. The implementation is based on the PETSc library and we report results for a 16-node HP cluster. The results suggest the multigrid preconditioner is the best option for the bidomain equations.

The proposed system aims to be an integrated educational solution that offers interoperable, web service-based, cross-platform learning services. This paper presents our work in the framework of the 6NET project, regarding the design, implementation and testing of a QoS service in a large-scale IPv6 network. The DiffServ mechanism for providing QoS guarantees, is generally preferred over IntServ. However, the current support for QoS mechanisms in IPv6 implementations still lags behind QoS support in IPv4. Furthermore, the new Internet Protocol introduces a different network environment in many aspects and therefore the QoS services should be specifically designed and evaluated for IPv6. In order to evaluate this different behaviour, large-scale experiments have been carried out within the scope of the 6NET project. This paper describes the results from the experimentation with the DiffServ mechanism on a large-scale native IPv6 network that aims to service aggregates of real time traffic with minimum delay, jitter and packet loss.

Mobility management is a necessity in highly dynamic and large-scale mobile agents network, especially in a multi-region environment in order to control and communicate with agents after launching. Existing mechanisms for locating mobile agents are not efficient as these do not consider the effect of location updates on migration time and produce network overload. A location management protocol consists of location updates, searches and search updates. An update occurs when a mobile agent changes location. A search occurs when a mobile agent needs to be located. A search-update occurs after a successful search. This paper presents a hierarchical model for location management of mobile agents in global networks. Three protocols are developed, namely search, update and search-update. The location management technique uses one combination of search, update and search-update protocols throughout execution. Three cases are considered for Update and Search-Update Protocols. Thus nine combinations of location management protocols are generated, from which an agent can dynamically select one as per requirement, to communicate with other agents on the global network. We have implemented these protocols on the PMADE system developed at IIT Roorkee, to evaluate the performance of different protocols for various communication and mobility patterns. Results indicate that performing search -updates significantly reduces the message overhead of location management.

UNITS, the successor of GSM, is evolving toward a future wireless all-IP network. In this paper we present how it supports real-time IP multimedia services, as these services are expected to drive the adoption of wireless all-IP networks. The scheme of real time streaming video is one of the newcomers in wireless data communication and in particular in UNITS, raising a number of novel requirements in both telecommunication and data communication systems. This scheme applies when the mobile user is experiencing real time multimedia content. In this paper, we describe the design and the implementation of a decision feedback scheme, which is based on real time protocols and it is used for streaming video over UNITS transport channels. The decision feedback scheme uses a friendly, to the mobile users, congestion control mechanism to control the transmission rate of the real time video sequence. Furthermore, we evaluate this mechanism through a number of experiments. During these experiments we demonstrate the friendly behavior of the decision feedback scheme to TCP and UDP data streams that coexist in the same channel with the video sequence.

This work aims a two-fold contribution: it presents a software to analyse logfiles and visualize popular web hot spots and, additionally, presents an algorithm to use this information in order to identify subsets of the website that display large access patterns. Such information is extremely valuable to the site maintainer, since it indicates points that may need content intervention or/and site graph restructuring. Experimental validation verified that the visualization tool, when coupled with algorithms that infer frequent traversal patterns, is both effective in indicating popular hot spots and efficient in doing so by using graph-based representations of popular traversals.
