A combination of closed sequential pattern mining and closed itemset pattern mining was proposed to mine closed multidimensional sequential patterns. There are two ways for this combination; (1) mining closed itemset patterns from multidimensional information followed by mining closed sequential patterns from sequences associated with closed itemset patterns, and (2) mining closed sequential patterns from sequences followed by mining closed itemset patterns from multidimensional information associated with closed sequential patterns. In the first way the major cost is mining all sequences associated with closed itemset patterns. A similar problem occurs with the second way, the major cost is mining all multidimensional information associated with closed sequential patterns. Therefore, this paper proposes two new combinations that don't need to mine all sequences in the first combination, and all multidimensional information in the second combination. Both combinations can be effected by exploiting two concepts. In the first combination, any closed sequential patterns associated with a closed itemset patten I can be found from a set of closed sequential patterns associated with a closed itemset pattern I' if I sup I'. In the second combination, any closed itemset patterns associated with a closed sequential pattern s can be found from a set of closed sequential patterns associated with a closed itemset pattern s' if s sup s'.

engineering for development, production, and other product related company activities are being organized in virtual systems for lifecycle management of product data. This new age of engineering is a result of the continuous development for step-by-step moving of product design, analysis and other production engineering activities from conventional environments to modeling environments during the eighties and nineties. However, more developments were needed in knowledge based decision assistance in order to realize modeling of human intent, increasingly complex product structures, and efficient communication of product data. In recent years, a great change of engineering methodology and software produced program products in knowledge technology and advanced local and global communication. Group work of engineers is increasingly organized around special portals for engineering on the Internet. Although intensive research activities produced outstanding methods in knowledge-based solutions for engineering, these methods have not widespread in the industrial modeling practice. This paper attempts to evaluate the possibility that recent communication and knowledge intensive engineering modeling can be developed into communication and knowledge intensive virtual space technology. Paper starts with a discussion on integrated application of different groups of product modeling techniques. Following this, methods are evaluated for the management of product data (PDM). Next section emphasizes aspects, contexts, and intents as primary issues in modeling for relationships in product data and decisions by engineers. Finally, methods for the management of engineering activities for lifecycle of products are summarized, considering communities of engineers around Internet portals.

A new speckle reduction algorithm based on subband decomposition and multiscale edge detection is presented. The subband decomposition is performed using a DFT/RDFT-based symmetric, zero-phase, nonoverlapping digital filter bank. The noisy images are decomposed into sub-images using RDFT transform based subband decomposition, an edge image is obtained for each level using these sub-images, then a threshold value is estimated according to noise variance in each subband and soft-thresholding is applied on the non-edge regions of the subband images. The despeckled image is obtained from the thresholded subband images using the inverse RDFT transform. The proposed speckle reduction method is applied to several test images corrupted by speckle noise as well as experimental RADARSAT/SAR images. Despeckled images show that this method has better performance than the case where no edge information is used.

Changes in engineering for development of product in the direction of increased complexity, more variants, and customer demand orientation stimulates implementation of advanced information technology in the form of virtual space. For this reason, concept of integrated product model has been implemented in comprehensive descriptions for lifecycle management of product information. Communication between engineer and modeling procedure is a critical factor. The authors identified data orientation of the recent integrated product modeling as a barrier for more efficient communication on user interfaces of product modeling systems. As a possible contribution to development of solution for this problem in industrial professional modeling systems, they propose content oriented layers between human and data oriented models in this paper. Following this, integration issues in content oriented product model are discussed. Next, relevant functions and modeling techniques for the handling of modeled object information are introduced and evaluated. Finally, a method is shown for the propagation of changes initiated for modeled objects in their affect zones.

Software size is the fundamental metric for project planning. Effort and duration are calculated based on the size estimate. However, for a given software size, the actual development effort could be significantly different. The question is whether the increase in effort is due to the low productivity of the development team or higher product quality. While higher product quality is highly desirable and usually worth investing in, the reasons for additional effort might be elsewhere. In the research presented in this paper, the focus is on the correlation between code quality and productivity. Code quality is only one aspect of product quality. This paper presents a method for calculating a new type of project effort named "acknowledged effort". Acknowledged effort is calculated based on the actual effort and code quality. This new type of effort reflects not only the project's size and the productivity of the development team, but also the quality aspect of the delivered software system.

Estimation of a partial transmitter contribution to the total electromagnetic field exposure, in a multi-transmitter environment

The equipment used for radiation hazard evaluation usually is based in measuring the total electric field strength over a frequency bandwidth of interest. However, because of the fact that the defined Reference Levels (RL) according to the ICNIRP Guidelines or other specific legislation are frequency dependent, the compliance of a particular RF or microwave transmitter and its contribution to the total received electromagnetic energy at a given measurement location is not easily identifiable. On the other hand, narrowband measurements can be used to determine the incident electric field from every single transmitter. However, in such a case, a large number of measurements are required in order to estimate its contribution to the total electric field strength and consequently to check for compliance with the legislation limits, due to the fact that directional antennas should be used. In this work a method is presented for determining: the total electric field from a particular direction to a specific point of a measurement location (e.g. in the vicinity of a mobile base station), the angle of maximum incident electric field and the total exposure quotient from the sources laying at that particular location in a frequency band of interest.

A new speckle reduction algorithm based on lattice filters for SAR imaging is presented. In the new method, the subband decomposition of the speckled image is performed using lattice filters. The noisy image is decomposed into subband images using high-pass and low-pass filters having lattice structure, then a threshold value is estimated according to noise variance in each subband and soft-thresholding is applied on the subband images. The despeckled image is obtained from the thresholded subband images using the inverse lattice filter. The proposed speckle reduction method is applied to RADARSAT/SAR images. The performance of the proposed method has also been compared with median filtering, and discrete and stationary wavelet transform based speckle reduction methods. Results show that the proposed method may be used efficiently for speckle noise reduction in SAR images.

Component-based development has become a recognized technique for building large scale distributed applications. Although the maturity of this technique, there appears to be quite a significant gap between (a) component systems that are rich in advanced features (e.g., component nesting, software connectors, versioning, dynamic architectures), but which have typically only poor or even no runtime support, and (b) component systems with a solid runtime support, but which typically possess only a limited set of the advanced features. In our opinion, this is mainly due to the difficulties that arise when trying to give proper semantics to the features and reify them in development tools and an runtime platform. In this paper, we describe the implementation of the runtime environment for the SOFA 2.0 component model. In particular, we focus on the runtime support of the advanced features mentioned above. The described issues and the solution are not specific only to SOFA 2.0, but they are general and applicable to any other component system aiming at addressing such features.

In this paper the development of Web GIS based decision support system for flood events is presented. To improve flood prediction we developed the decision support system for flood prediction and monitoring that integrates hydrological modelling and CARIS GIS. We present the methodology for data integration, floodplain delineation, and online map interfaces. Our Web-based GIS model can dynamically display observed and predicted flood extents for decision makers and the general public. The users can access Web-based GIS that models current flood events and displays satellite imagery and digital elevation model integrated with flood plain area. The system can show how the flooding prediction based on the output from hydrological modeling for the next 48 hours along the lower Saint John River Valley.

Several research efforts suggest that collaborative participatory simulations improve teaching and learning, increasing motivation inside the classroom. Currently, it has been mainly applied with students of primary and secondary educational levels, leaving higher level students aside. This paper presents a framework for implementing Participatory Simulations, where social interactions and motivational effects are the main facilitators. An instance of this framework was implemented for business school undergraduate students. Its implementation is simple, lightweight, fully based on pen-based, and designed to work with handhelds over an ad-hoc wireless network.
