Outsourcing neural network (NN) inference services to the cloud gives rise to considerable privacy concerns about the model provider’s proprietary model and the user’s private data. Current cryptography-based secure NN inference schemes are not suited for high-latency networks due to their numerous communication overhead for computing the non-linear components of neural networks. In this paper, we present ParaNN, a secure cloud-based outsourced computation framework that supports lightweight secure neural network inference. At the core of ParaNN, we design a secure and parallel method for extracting the most significant bit (MSB) based on a parallel prefix adder. This forms the cornerstone for a series of secure and communication-efficient computation protocols specifically tailored to non-linear layers like ReLU and Maxpool. Our experiments show that ParaNN achieves a 6.7×-27.4× improvement in online inference time over wide area networks (WAN) compared to the state-of-the-art works.

Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) has recently been envisioned as a cost-effective solution to enhance the received signal power of the desired user and to suppress interference of the unintended user. In this paper, we investigate the IRS-aided multi-cell millimeter wave (mmWave) communication system for suppressing inter-cell interference (ICI) to assist the downlink transmission of cell-edge users. We aim for maximizing the minimum weighted signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) through jointly optimizing the active beamforming vectors of mmWave base stations (MBSs), the phase shifts of the IRS, and the location of the IRS in the case of imperfect CSI. To tackle this non-convex problem, we propose a majorization-minimization (MM)-based beamforming algorithm, in which three sets of variables can be updated alternately. The proposed algorithm is also extended to multi-IRS-aided multi-cell mmWave scenarios. The simulation results show the advantages in terms of the SINR of cell-edge users after introducing the IRS to mitigate the ICI. © 2022 IEEE.

In the low-light conditions, images are corrupted by low contrast and severe noise, but event cameras can capture event streams with clear edge structures. Therefore, we propose an Event-Guided Attention network for Low-light Image Enhancement (EGAN) using a dual branch network and recover clear structure with the guide of events. To overcome the lack of paired training datasets, we first synthesize the dataset containing low-light event streams, low-light images, and the ground truth (GT) normal-light images. Then, we develop an end-to-end dual branch network consisting of a Image Enhancement Branch (IEB) and a Gradient Reconstruction Branch (GRB). The GRB branch reconstructs image gradients using events, and the IEB enhances low-light images using reconstructed gradients. Moreover, we develops the Attention based Event-Image Feature Fusion Module (AEIFFM) which selectively fuses the event and low-light image features using the spatial and channel attention mechanism, and the fused features are concatenated into the IEB and GRB, which respectively generate the enhanced images with clear structure and more accurate gradient images. Extensive experiments on synthetic and real datasets demonstrate that the proposed EGAN produces visually more appealing enhancement images, and achieves a good performance in structure preservation and denoising over state-of-the-arts.

With the rapid advancement and application of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), personal health records (PHRs) are now increasingly comprised of data collected by Internet of Things (IoT) devices and medical records documented by healthcare professionals. Personal health record (PHR) sharing demonstrates great potential in improving the accuracy of disease diagnosis. However, PHR sharing also brings risks such as illegal access and personal information leakage. Some works explored using blockchain or attribute-based encryption (ABE) to solve these privacy leakage problems, but those solutions did not pay attention to the user’s attribute privacy. In this work, we combine a linear secret sharing scheme (LSSS) and zero-knowledge succinct non-interactive argument of knowledge (zkSNARK) scheme to design an efficient zero-knowledge proof protocol called zk-AHSNARK. It can verify the user’s attribute permissions while also hiding attribute information. Based on zk-AHSNARK, we propose a novel PHR sharing scheme that protects attribute privacy. Data security is ensured by storing encrypted data in the interplanetary file system (IPFS). In addition, we introduce keyword ciphertext search to achieve fast data retrieval, and we implement the search and verification algorithms via a smart contract, ensuring the trustworthiness and integrity of the execution. Finally, through a large number of simulations, we demonstrated the suggested scheme’s viability and security.

In this paper, a semantic communication framework for a scenario where the transmitter and the receiver have different knowledge is proposed. In the proposed framework, the transmitter extracts semantic information from the data according to its knowledge and sends it to the receiver. The receiver requires to process the received semantic information based on its knowledge. Here, the knowledge implies a method which the transmitter or the receiver can use to process the semantic information. Since the transmitter or the receiver have different knowledge, they may have different understandings for the same information. To ensure the receiver can understand the semantic information, the transmitter requires to estimate the receiver's knowledge by asking a series of questions about the transmitted data. By evaluating the difference between the answers of the receiver and the answers of the transmitter, the transmitter can adjust the method of semantic information extraction. Since the size of the extracted semantic information and the number of the questions that the transmitter can ask are limited, the transmitter must adjust the method of semantic information extraction and select appropriate questions to transmit. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to maximize the similarity of answers of the transmitter and the receiver by determining semantic information while minimizing the semantic similarity of answers by determining the questions to be transmitted. To solve this problem, an adversarial reinforcement learning (ARL) algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm, which consists of a semantic information RL and a question RL, can find the optimal semantic information generation scheme and question selection scheme by a competitive game between two agents. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed framework can improve the semantic similarity of answers by up to 3.7% gain and can achieve up to 15.2 % gain in terms of the aver

As the size of datasets and neural network models increases, automatic parallelization methods for models have become a research hotspot in recent years. The existing auto-parallel methods based on machine learning or graph algorithms still have issues with search efficiency and applicability. This paper proposes an automatic parallel method based on a dual-population genetic algorithm, TGA, which transforms model partitioning and placement into an integer linear programming problem and constructs a cost model to evaluate the solution. The solution space is built using the neural network's dataflow graph and device cluster's topology, and the dual-population genetic algorithm is used to search for the optimal model parallel strategy. Experiments with various models show that the proposed method can improve single-step execution time by up to 42% compared to the Baechi method and up to 37.7% compared to the Hierarchical method. © 2023 IEEE.

Spatial audio content is becoming increasingly popular and is regarded as a set of object signals with associated metadata. The object-based content representation is independent of loudspeaker layouts and provides high spatial resolution when reproduced on more loudspeakers. The audio quality of the traditional spatial audio object coding (SAOC) method has severe aliasing distortion, which impairs the immersive listening experience. In this study, we reduce aliasing distortion by perceptual adaptive subband grouping strategy and use the convolutional neural network (CNN) and residual block to build the side information compressing model. Both objective and subjective experiments on benchmark datasets with different bitrates show that the proposed method achieves favorable performance against state-of-the-art methods.

One of the most important services provided by cloud service providers (CSPs), cloud storage is economically attractive and can provide on-demand data storage service to resource-constrained tenants in the manner of pay-per-use. Therefore, by embracing cloud storage service, tenants can store their large-scale data on the remote cloud host to tremendously reduce local storage burden and computational overhead. However, due to the separation of cloud data ownership and management, cloud storage inevitably suffers from a few new security challenges, such as fine-grained cloud data deletion. To achieve data deletion in cloud storage, we design a vector-commitment-based publicly verifiable data deletion scheme, which can achieve data integrity auditing and block-based fine-grained data deletion. Specifically, our proposed scheme disguises the data deletion operation as data update operation. Therefore, the tenants can achieve data deletion by updating the cloud data blocks with some unrelated data blocks. Meanwhile, the tenants can prevent cloud data from being polluted by periodically performing data integrity auditing operation, thus guaranteeing that the cloud host sincerely maintains the data. Moreover, we formally analyze the security, which shows that our proposed scheme can satisfy all of the anticipative security requirements without interaction with a centralized third party. Finally, we develop a prototype system and evaluate the performance of our proposed scheme, which can intuitively demonstrate the high-efficiency and practicality of our proposal. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In this paper, a multi-modal data based semisupervised learning (SSL) framework that jointly use channel state information (CSI) data and RGB images for vehicle positioning is designed. In particular, an outdoor positioning system where the vehicle locations are determined by a base station (BS) is considered. The BS equipped with several cameras can collect a large amount of unlabeled CSI data and a small number of labeled CSI data of vehicles, and the images taken by cameras. Although the collected images contain partial information of vehicles (i.e. azimuth angles of vehicles), the relationship between the unlabeled CSI data and its azimuth angle, and the distances between the BS and the vehicles captured by images are both unknown. Therefore, the images cannot be directly used as the labels of unlabeled CSI data to train a positioning model. To exploit unlabeled CSI data and images, a SSL framework that consists of a pretraining stage and a downstream training stage is proposed. In the pretraining stage, the azimuth angles obtained from the images are considered as the labels of unlabeled CSI data to pretrain the positioning model. In the downstream training stage, a small sized labeled dataset in which the accurate vehicle positions are considered as labels is used to retrain the model. Simulation results show that the proposed method can reduce the positioning error by up to 30% compared to a baseline where the model is not pretrained. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. Aerial and terrestrial heterogeneous networks (Het-Nets), millimeter wave (mmWave) communications and multi-antenna techniques are viewed as promising components of the solution for future communications. By leveraging the power of stochastic geometry, this paper provides an effective framework for modeling and analyzing an aerial and terrestrial HetNet, where the terrestrial base stations (TBSs) and the UAV base stations (UBSs) co-exist, and the UBSs are equipped with multi-antenna operating at mmWave frequency band. By modeling the TBSs and UBSs as Poisson point processes (PPPs), the expressions for the coverage probability and the average data rate of the typical user of both tiers are derived. Monte Carlo simulations are then performed to validate the analytical expressions. The effects of some relevant parameters on network performance are discussed in detail, and the proposed model can provide some insights into the deployment and optimization of real aerial and terrestrial HetNets.
