Cloud storage is one of the underlying services in cloud computing. However, there are some critical issues in file storage which should be resolved urgently, such as the blocking file storage. In order to solve the shortages of hot file storage and parallel computing support issues in fixed-blocking storage, we propose a smart-blocking file storage method in this paper. By setting up 6 grouping factors, the method can determine whether the file should be blocked or not automatically depending on the size of the file and the client bandwidth. The proposed method can block the file into similar size sub-blocks as large as possible when the file is judged to be blocked. Normally the size of the last sub-block is smaller than other similar sub-blocks. But the gap maintains within the size of the next smaller grouping factor. The Metadata server can address the hot files when the file is blocked. In addition, the proposed method also defines the file uniformity and the system uniformity to quantitatively describe the uniformity of sub-blocks in the file and in the whole system. Analysis and simulation demonstrate the proposed method has better system uniformity in file storage, the node load balance caused by hot file, and a large number of file fragments reduction. © 2012 IEEE.

In cognitive radio (CR) systems, secondary users (SUs) have to detect channel periodically during their data transmission to decide whether the channel is idle in order to avoid unacceptable interferences to primary users (Pus). With the traditional spectrum sensing method, all secondary users must carry out the detection process on the spectrum band before data transmission. The longer the detection time, the lower the channel efficiency is. In this paper, we explore the issue on detection method selection that aims at improving the channel efficiency. We propose a continuous spectrum sensing method with which the secondary users can detect the spectrum even if they are transmitting data to each other. This method not only improves the channel efficiency, but also senses the primary signal quickly.

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one of the key technologies for Internet of Things (IoT). Due to the limitations of processing capability, storage space and power supply of RFID tag, the traditional security mechanisms cannot be used directly. In addition, the existing security threats become more severe towards RFID authentication scheme. In this paper, we propose an Efficient Secure Lightweight RFID Authentication Scheme based on challenge-response model, named ESLRAS. To achieve authentication efficiency, the key of the tag is chosen to reduce the number of hash computing in database. Furthermore, the key is stored in database and updated constantly with the tag to prevent the tracking attack and the synchronization attack. The correctness of ESLRAS has been proved using GNY logic, and the performance of ESLRAS in terms of security and efficiency is evaluated. Compared with other existing approaches, ESLRAS achieves stronger security and higher efficiency. © 2012 IEEE.

Currently, a majority of existing algorithms for sparse optimization problems are based on regularization framework. The main goal of these algorithms is to recover a sparse solution with k non-zero components(called k-sparse). In fact, the sparse optimization problem can also be regarded as a multi-objective optimization problem, which considers the minimization of two objectives (i.e., loss term and penalty term). In this paper, we proposed a revised version of MOEA/D based on iterative thresholding algorithm for sparse optimization. It only aims at finding a local part of trade-off solutions, which should include the k-sparse solution. Some experiments were conducted to verify the effectiveness of MOEA/D for sparse signal recovery in compressive sensing. Our experimental results showed that MOEA/D is capable of identifying the sparsity degree without prior sparsity information. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

In this paper, we study the problem of maximizing the throughput of UWB-based wireless ad-hoc networks by optimal allocation of radio resources, such as transmission rates and transmission powers. In particular, we determine the transmission rate of a link (which is transmission-power dependent) that maximizes the link's throughput. We show that if a link's transmission rate is adapted to this optimal transmission rate then, as the number of concurrently operating links increases, the maximal total network throughput approaches a constant and each link's throughput approaches zero. We conclude that for sufficiently large transmission power, the throughput of the single-link case exceeds the total network throughput of the multiple-links case. We then present an optimal transmission scheduling scheme that maximizes the network throughput. Based on this scheme, and for the case of small maximal attainable power and weak interference levels, the scheduling scheme allocates simultaneous transmissions of multiple links. However, for the case of large maximally attainable power and strong interference levels, the scheduling scheme assigns separate times for transmission on each link. The breakpoint of when it is preferable to use a separate time for any link, as opposed to simultaneous transmission over multiple links, is determined by the value of the maximal transmission power of the links. Finally, we argue that, in contrast with previous studies, the design of the optimal medium MAC protocol is dependent on the choice of a routing scheme

A domain-based secure communication scheme with fault-tolerant capacity

In order to solve the problems in wireless sensor networks, such as node failures and the key node attack, a secure communication model based on secret sharing is presented to improve the communication success rate. In this model, the network is divided into a series of logical domains, and each domain is composed of the council nodes, the key node, the gateway nodes and ordinary nodes. Using the secret sharing mechanism, the council nodes can protect the master key of each domain, distribute session keys to the nodes in the domain, and periodically monitor the key node to avoid its failure. This method transforms traditional node-based networks into domain-based networks, and the new networks are more stable than the former ones. This new communication model can maintain a steady network despite instability of the network nodes, so it can raise the communication success rate.

The transition towards the sixth-generation (6G) wireless telecommunications networks introduces significant challenges for researchers and industry stakeholders. The 6G technology aims to enhance existing usage scenarios through supporting innovative applications that require stringent key performance indicators (KPIs). In some critical use cases of 6G, multiple KPIs, including immersive throughput, with an envisioned peak data rate of 1 Tbps, hyper-reliability, in the range of 10−5 to 10−7, and hyper low-latency, between 0.1 and 1 ms, must be achieved simultaneously to deliver the expected service experience. However, this is challenging due to the conflicting nature of these KPIs. This article proposes a new service class of 6G as immersive, hyper reliable, and low-latency communication (IHRLLC), and introduces a potential network architecture to achieve the associated KPIs. Specifically, enhanced technologies, such as ultra-massive multiple-input multiple-output (umMIMO)-aided terahertz (THz) communications, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), and non-terrestrial networks (NTN), are viewed as the key enablers for achieving immersive data rates and hyper reliability. Given the computational complexity involved in employing these technologies, we propose mathematical and computational enabling technologies, such as learn-to-optimize (L2O), generative-AI (GenAI), quantum computing, and network digital twin (NDT), to complement the proposed architecture and optimize the latency. © 2024, CC0.

We propose a novel near real-time method for early detection of worm outbreaks in high-speed Internet backbones. Our method attributes several behavioural properties to individual hosts like ratio of outgoing to incoming traffic, responsiveness and number of connections. These properties are used to group hosts into distinct behaviour classes. We use flow-level (Cisco Net Flow) information exported by the border routers of a Swiss Internet backbone provider (AS559/SWITCH). By tracking the cardinality of each class over time and alarming on fast increases and other significant changes, we can early and reliably detect worm outbreaks. We successfully validated our method with archived flow-level traces of recent major Internet e-mail based worms such as MyDoomA and Sobig.F, and fast spreading network worms like Witty and Blaster. Our method is generic in the sense that it does not require any previous knowledge about the exploits and scanning method used by the worms. It can give a set of suspicious hosts in near real-time that have recently and drastically changed their network behaviour and hence are highly likely to be infected.

In this paper, a new hyperspectral image (HSI) and panchromatic image (PANI) fusion approach via weighted tensor matrix is proposed. In the proposed method, homomorphic filtering is use for obtaining spatial component of HSI, and a weighted root mean squared error (RMSE)-based algorithm is proposed to extract the total intensity details of HSI. In addition, an optimized weighted tensor matrix-based method is proposed to acquire the integrated intensity details from both HSI and PANI. Comparative analyses show the proposed approach performs better than other excellent approaches in visual inspection and objective assessment.

Emerging network services such as transcoding and encryption need application-specific handling of data streams within the network, thus requiring enormous computational capabilities on routers to process packets at link speed. Recently appeared network processors (NPs) are able to significantly increase the availab.e processing capacities on a router by a chip-multi-processor architecture. Embedded within the network interface card, NPs provide several code-extensible processors with different capabilities located at various layers. However, the increase in processing capacity comes at the cost of a higher complexity to program and control various processor hierarchies provided on the router. We introduce the model of active network nodes built of a processor hierarchy together with a component-based service model. We present the architecture of PromethOS NP which is a modular framework that manages and controls a network node with a multitude of processors in a scalab.e way. Specifically, we describe the mechanisms required to dynamically configure multiple processors organized in a hierarchical fashion such that they provide a new network service on behalf of applications. As a proof of concept, we have implemented a service framework for PromethOS NP. Our implementation is based on a network interface card with an embedded IBM PowerNP 4GS3 and an Intel Xeon processor, offering programmability on a three-tier hierarchy of processors.
