In integrated ground-air-space (IGAS) wireless networks, numerous services require sensing knowledge including location, angle, distance information, etc., which usually can be acquired during the beam training stage. On the other hand, IGAS networks employ large-scale antenna arrays to mitigate obstacle occlusion and path loss. However, large-scale arrays generate pencil-shaped beams, which necessitate a higher number of training beams to cover the desired space. These factors motivate our investigation into the IGAS beam training problem to achieve effective sensing services. To address the high complexity and low identification accuracy of existing beam training techniques, we propose an efficient hashing multi-arm beam (HMB) training scheme. Specifically, we first construct an IGAS single-beam training codebook for the uniform planar arrays. Then, the hash functions are chosen independently to construct the multi-arm beam training codebooks for each AP. All APs traverse the predefined multi-arm beam training codeword simultaneously and the multi-AP superimposed signals at the user are recorded. Finally, the soft decision and voting methods are applied to obtain the correctly aligned beams only based on the signal powers. In addition, we logically prove that the traversal complexity is at the logarithmic level. Simulation results show that our proposed IGAS HMB training method can achieve 96.4% identification accuracy of the exhaustive beam training method and greatly reduce the training overhead. Factoring larger integers with fewer qubits via quantum annealing with optimized parameters

RSA cryptography is based on the difficulty of factoring large integers, which is an NP-hard(and hence intractable) problem for a classical computer. However, Shor's algorithm shows that its complexity is polynomial for a quantum computer, although technical difficulties mean that practical quantum computers that can tackle integer factorizations of meaningful size are still a long way away. Recently, Jiang et al. proposed a transformation that maps the integer factorization problem onto the quadratic unconstrained binary optimization(QUBO) model. They tested their algorithm on a D-Wave 2000 Q quantum annealing machine, raising the record for a quantum factorized integer to 376289 with only 94 qubits. In this study, we optimize the problem Hamiltonian to reduce the number of qubits involved in the final Hamiltonian while maintaining the QUBO coefficients in a reasonable range, enabling the improved algorithm to factorize larger integers with fewer qubits. Tests of our improved algorithm using D-Wave's hybrid quantum/classical simulator qbsolv confirmed that performance was improved, and we were able to factorize 1005973, a new record for quantum factorized integers, with only 89 qubits. In addition, our improved algorithm can tolerate more errors than the original one. Factoring 1005973 using Shor's algorithm would require about 41 universal qubits,which current universal quantum computers cannot reach with acceptable accuracy. In theory, the latest IBM Q System OneTM(Jan. 2019) can only factor up to 10-bit integers, while the D-Wave have a thousand-fold advantage on the factoring scale. This shows that quantum annealing machines, such as those by D-Wave, may be close to cracking practical RSA codes, while universal quantum-circuit-based computers may be many years away from attacking RSA.

Entangling Quantum Memories via Heralded Photonic Bell Measurement

A common way to entangle quantum memories is via photonic entanglement swaps. Each of two memories, connected by an optical channel, emits a photonic qubit entangled with itself, and the photonic qubits undergo an entanglement swap on a beamsplitter in the middle of the channel. We compare two choices of encoding of the photonic qubit: single rail and dual rail. At low channel loss the dual-rail scheme outperforms the single rail scheme. However, as expected, the high-loss rate asymptote for the dual rail scheme scales quadratically worse with loss compared with single rail. Considering the following non-idealities: imperfect mode matching at the swap, carrier-phase mismatch across the interfered photonic qubits, and detector excess noise, we evaluate the density operator of the heralded two-qubit entangled state. We calculate a lower bound on its distillable entanglement per copy, and its Fidelity (with the ideal Bell state). For both schemes, imperfect swap-visibility results in a constant-factor decrease in the rate, while excess noise results in a dropoff of distillable entanglement beyond a certain total channel loss threshold, to zero. Despite the single-rail scheme's better rate-loss scaling, it is more severely affected by excess noise. The single-rail scheme is adversely affected by stochastic carrier-phase mismatch, which does not affect the dual-rail scheme. We study entanglement distillation on the heralded noisy entangled states for both methods, and outline a suite of quantum networking studies that our work could incite. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

An active reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided multi-user downlink communication system is investigated, where non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is employed to improve spectral efficiency, and the active RIS is powered by energy harvesting (EH). The problem of joint control of the RIS’s amplification matrix and phase shift matrix is formulated to maximize the communication success ratio with considering the quality of service (QoS) requirements of users, dynamic communication state, and dynamic available energy of RIS. To tackle this non-convex problem, a cascaded deep learning algorithm namely long short-term memory-deep deterministic policy gradient (LSTM-DDPG) is designed. First, an advanced LSTM based algorithm is developed to predict users’ dynamic communication state. Then, based on the prediction results, a DDPG based algorithm is proposed to joint control the amplification matrix and phase shift matrix of the RIS. Finally, simulation results verify the accuracy of the prediction of the proposed LSTM algorithm, and demonstrate that the LSTM-DDPG algorithm has a significant advantage over other benchmark algorithms in terms of communication success ratio performance. You Can Wash Hands Better: Accurate Daily Handwashing Assessment with a Smartwatch

Hand hygiene is among the most effective daily practices for preventing infectious diseases such as influenza, malaria, and skin infections. While professional guidelines emphasize proper handwashing to reduce the risk of viral infections, surveys reveal that adherence to these recommendations remains low. To address this gap, we propose UWash, a wearable solution leveraging smartwatches to evaluate handwashing procedures, aiming to raise awareness and cultivate high-quality handwashing habits. We frame the task of handwashing assessment as an action segmentation problem, similar to those in computer vision, and introduce a simple yet efficient two-stream UNet-like network to achieve this goal. Experiments involving 51 subjects demonstrate that UWash achieves 92.27% accuracy in handwashing gesture recognition, an error of < 0.5 seconds in onset/offset detection, and an error of < 5 points in gesture scoring under user-dependent settings. The system also performs robustly in user-independent and user-independent-location-independent evaluations. Remarkably, UWash maintains high performance in real-world tests, including evaluations with 10 random passersby at a hospital 9 months later and 10 passersby in an in-the-wild test conducted 2 years later. UWash is the first system to score handwashing quality based on gesture sequences, offering actionable guidance for improving daily hand hygiene. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

A novel integrated wireless powered sensing and communication (IWPSAC) framework is proposed. Specifically, a multi-antenna transmitter utilizes a radar signal for sensing targets while enabling multiple Internet of Things (IoT) devices to harvest energy from the signal, each of which employs the collected energy to upload information to an access point (AP). Our setup further considers a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) to integrate sensing, wireless energy transfer (WET) and wireless information transfer (WIT) by optimizing the phase shifts. We formulate an optimization problem to maximize the weighted sum of the communication throughput and the beampattern gain by jointly designing the energy beamforming, transmission time scheduling and RIS phase shifts. The presence of multiple coupled variables in the formulated problem renders the optimization problem non-jointly convex. To address its non-convexity, we first derive a closed-form expression for the optimal RIS phase shifts in the WIT phase. Then, an alternating optimization (AO) algorithm is proposed to solve the tradeoff problem iteratively. Concretely, this involves alternating the design of the energy beamforming and the RIS phase shifts for sensing/WET by leveraging the semidefinite programming (SDP) relaxation method. To overcome the high complexity introduced by the SDP, we introduce a low complexity AO algorithm that derives the optimal solutions for energy beamforming, transmission time scheduling, and sensing/WET phase shift using successive convex approximation (SCA), Lagrangian duality methods, Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions, and the element-wise block coordinate descent (EBCD) approach. Simulation results demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithms and underscore the superior benefits of the RIS compared to baseline schemes. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Edge-cloud collaboration enabled video service enhancement: A hybrid human-artificial intelligence scheme

In this paper, a video service enhancement strategy is investigated under an edge-cloud collaboration framework, where video caching and delivery decisions are made in the cloud and edge respectively. We aim to guarantee the user fairness in terms of video coding rate under statistical delay constraint and edge caching capacity constraint. A hybrid human-artificial intelligence approach is developed to improve the user hit rate for video caching. Specifically, individual user interest is first characterized by merging factorization machine (FM) model and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) model, where both low-order and high-order features can be well learned simultaneously. Thereafter, a social aware similarity model is constructed to transferred individual user interest to group interest, based on which, videos can be selected to cache. Furthermore, a double bisection exploration scheme is proposed to optimize wireless resource allocation and video coding rate. The effectiveness of the proposed video caching scheme and video delivery scheme is finally validated by extensive experiments with a real-world data set. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. It is not clear how socioeconomic factors affect the incidence of intestinal infectious diseases in China. This article uses generalized linear models and generalized additive models to analyze the relationship between socioeconomic factors and infectious diseases. Research shows that these two models can reflect the relationship between socioeconomic factors and infectious diseases, but GAM has the best goodness of fit. In the GAM model, considering the comprehensive influence of a variety of socioeconomic factors, the proportion of higher education (p=0.0226) and the population over 65 (p=0.0012) have the most significant impact on the incidence. The number of people under 14 years old (p=0. 0206) and the growth rate of fiscal revenue (p=0. 0269) also have a certain impact on the incidence. Considering the impact of single socioeconomic factors, except for the unemployment rate which has no significant impact on the incidence of hepatitis and cholera (p>0.05), the other five socioeconomic factors have a significant impact on the incidence of intestinal infectious diseases (p © 2020 IEEE.
