A low-loss hybrid plasmonic transverse magnetic(TM)-pass polarizer has been demonstrated utilizing polarization-dependent mode *** advantage of the silicon hybrid plasmonic slot waveguide(HPSW),the unwanted transverse electric(TE)fundamental mode can be efficiently converted first to a TM higher-order mode and then suppressed by a power combiner,while the retained TM fundamental mode can pass through with negligible *** the HPSW feature both strong structural asymmetry and a small interaction area in the cross-section between the metal and optical field,the optimized insertion loss of the device is as low as 0.4 d *** the wavelength of 1550 nm,the extinction ratio is 28.3 d B with a moderate footprint of 2.38μm×10μ*** the entire C band,the average reflection of the TE mode is suppressed below-14 d B,and the extinction ratio is over 18.6 d *** work provides another more efficient and effective approach for better on-chip polarizers.

In this paper, we propose a novel architecture that utilizes features of Blockchain, fog computing, and cloud computing to manage IoT data. Blockchain allows to have a distributed peer-to-peer network in which non-trusting participants can interact with each other without a trusted intermediary or third party. We evaluate how this mechanism works to face the challenges of IoT with respect to multiple accessibility to IoT devises. We consider a Blockchain architecture in presence of edge computing layer. With fog or fog computing, the sensitive data can be analyzed locally instead of sending it to the cloud for analysis. Edge nodes can also keep track and control of the IoT devices that collect, analyze and store data. We show that this control can be better executed when Software Defined Network (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) are integrated into our process for optimal resource management. In this paper, we present our system architecture with a detailed description of the different interactions. We remark that the integration of Blockchain, IoT, and edge computing when coupled with SDN and NFV-enabled cloud infrastructure can bring to more superior and efficient platform for accessing, managing, and processing the huge influx of IoT data. © 2019 Association for Computing Machinery.

In a distributed mixture-of-experts (MoE) system, a server collaborates with multiple specialized expert clients to perform inference. The server extracts features from input data and dynamically selects experts based on their areas of specialization to produce the final output. Although MoE models are widely valued for their flexibility and performance benefits, adapting distributed MoEs to operate effectively in wireless networks has remained unexplored. In this work, we introduce a novel channel-aware gating function for wireless distributed MoE, which incorporates channel conditions into the MoE gating mechanism. To train the channel-aware gating, we simulate various signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) for each expert’s communication channel and add noise to the features distributed to the experts based on these SNRs. The gating function then utilizes both features and SNRs to optimize expert selection. Unlike conventional MoE models which solely consider the alignment of features with the specializations of experts, our approach additionally considers the impact of channel conditions on expert performance. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed channel-aware gating scheme outperforms traditional MoE models. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Floor plans can provide valuable prior information that helps enhance the accuracy of indoor positioning systems. However, existing research typically faces challenges in efficiently leveraging floor plan information and applying it to complex indoor layouts. To fully exploit information from floor plans for positioning, we propose a floor plan-assisted fusion positioning algorithm (FP-BP) using Bluetooth low energy (BLE) and pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR). In the considered system, a user holding a smartphone walks through a positioning area with BLE beacons installed on the ceiling, and can locate himself in real time. In particular, FP-BP consists of two phases. In the offline phase, FP-BP programmatically extracts map features from a stylized floor plan based on their binary masks, and constructs a mapping function to identify the corresponding map feature of any given position on the map. In the online phase, FP-BP continuously computes BLE positions and PDR results from BLE signals and smartphone sensors, where a novel grid-based maximum likelihood estimation (GML) algorithm is introduced to enhance BLE positioning. Then, a particle filter is used to fuse them and obtain an initial estimate. Finally, FP-BP performs post-position correction to obtain the final position based on its specific map feature. Experimental results show that FP-BP can achieve a real-time mean positioning accuracy of 1.19 m, representing an improvement of over 28% compared to existing floor plan-fused baseline algorithms. With the continuous development of edge-assisted internet of things (IoT) applications, a large number of computing tasks need to be offloaded into the edge servers. It is critical to secure the security of IoT data transmission to the edge. In this paper, we propose a multi-attack intrusion detection system (IDS) for edge-assisted IoT using the back propagation (BP) Neural Network, and Radial basis function (RBF) neural network. Especially, BP neural network is exploited to find the abnormal and get the importance of features for each attack. Radial basis function (RBF) neural network is used for detecting multi-attack intrusion. The results show high accuracy in proposed multi-attack scenario and elucidate the feasibility and preeminence of our proposed anomaly detection framework. © 2019 IEEE.

In this paper, the content service provision of information-centric vehicular networks (ICVNs) is investigated from the aspect of mobile edge caching, considering the dynamic driving-related context information. To provide up-to-date information with low latency, two schemes are designed for cache update and content delivery at the roadside units (RSUs). The roadside unit centric (RSUC) scheme decouples cache update and content delivery through bandwidth splitting, where the cached content items are updated regularly in a round-robin manner. The request adaptive (ReA) scheme updates the cached content items upon user requests with certain probabilities. The performance of both proposed schemes are analyzed, whereby the average age of information (AoI) and service latency are derived in closed forms. Surprisingly, the AoI-latency trade-off does not always exist, and frequent cache update can degrade both performances. Thus, the RSUC and ReA schemes are further optimized to balance the AoI and latency. Extensive simulations are conducted on SUMO and OMNeT++ simulators, and the results show that the proposed schemes can reduce service latency by up to 80% while guaranteeing content freshness in heavily loaded ICVNs. Designing and testing low-power wireless communication protocols often requires experimental deployments on real hardware in realistic settings. Infrastructure testbeds have the advantage that they allow reproducible results using different network configurations. However, most testbeds are either in- or outdoor only and do not span long and short ranges at the same time. In this work, we present an extension to the popular FlockLab testbed on a campus-scale in order to better support testing of long-range communciation, for example using the LoRa modulation. Different to existing LoRa test networks where specific protocol layers are fixed, we support custom modification above the physical hardware (above PHY) which allows the development and testing of alternative full custom MAC layers that are not based on LoRaWan.

In this demo abstract we present a custom-built low-power geophone sensor node which features on-device mountaineer classification using a convolutional neural network. The execution of such a processing-heavy algorithm on an embedded platform is enabled by optimizing the memory requirement of the neural network through advanced quantization and pipelining techniques. As a result, real-time classification with low energy consumption can be achieved.

In this demo we will demonstrate an implementation of the Event-based Low-power Wireless Bus (eLWB) based on an FSK version of Glossy for the CC430. The application is an event-triggered geophone platform that uses the CC430 ComBoard and eLWB. This application generates periodic as well as event-based traffic that is transmitted using eLWB to a central sink (base station) running on a laptop. Different network traffic patterns can be observed depending on the behavior of the application w.r.t. the sensed data. Users can interact with the demo by generating seismic events (shaking, knocking, footsteps etc.). Furthermore, we will showcase our field deployments in the Swiss Alps based on the online web interface.
