Massive open online courses (MOOCs), which offer open access and widespread interactive participation through the internet, are quickly becoming the preferred method for online and remote learning. Occlusion is a significant challenge in face recognition accuracy. An innovative occlusion-aware approach is presented in this paper to mitigate the impact of occlusions on recognition performance. Unlike traditional methods that require extensive occlusion data, our approach utilizes a general occlusion perception network with facial semantic parsing. This network classifies "non-face"regions as occlusions, which makes our approach robust against various occlusion types. For the precise localization of occluded areas, facial contour detection is employed, and missing contour segments are predicted, with this contour information being utilized in subsequent recognition processes. In the recognition phase, the face is segmented into sub-regions based on spatial and semantic cues. A network, similar to Pairwise Difference Siamese Network, is developed to construct a region-feature dictionary, which enables the selective suppression of features affected by occlusion. The efficacy of the proposed method is demonstrated through extensive experiments conducted on the AR, Megaface, LFW, and synthetic occlusion datasets. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

In the past years, epoxy resin molding compounds (EMCs) have gained in importance as packaging material in the field of electrification due to their very good mechanical and chemical resistance and electrical insulation properties. Forthcoming trends, such as the use of silicon carbide and ceramics, are accelerating developments and are leading to new requirements for encapsulation materials in terms of high temperature resistance and stability. A focus here is on epoxy resin molding compounds with high glass transition temperatures, which as a consequence of the limited manufacturing conditions of electronic components must be cured below their maximum glass transition temperature. As a result, setting-up the ideal curing process to achieve the desired material properties poses quite a challenge, making therefore the study of the cure behavior under process-related conditions a key factor to achieve the desired material properties. The dielectric analysis (DEA) is a powerful measurement technique well suited for in-situ monitoring of EMC curing in the field of direct packaging of electronic parts. However, it possesses one major drawback. The DEA has a systematic temperature dependence that hinders the determination of the cure state as it is usually known from standard offline measurement techniques such as thermomechanical analysis (TMA), or dynamic-scanning-calorimetry (DSC). In this work we present an empirical approach how to compensate the temperature influence of the dielectric analysis (DEA) for a commercially available high glass transition temperature (Tg) (higher $200^{\circ}\mathrm{C})$ EMC. This proposed normalization method allows to gain information about the cure state of an EMC under near process conditions what would already be a great advantage considering the future trends in electronic packaging technology. This work presents an optimal design method of antenna aperture illumination for microwave power transmission with an annular collection area. The objective is to maximize the ratio of the power radiated on the annular collection area to the total transmitted power. By formulating the aperture amplitude distribution through a summation of a special set of series, the optimal design problem can be reduced to finding the maximum ratio of two real quadratic forms. Based on the theory of matrices, the solution to the formulated optimization problem is to determine the largest characteristic value and its associated characteristic vector. To meet security requirements, the peak radiation levels outside the receiving area are considered to be extra constraints. A hybrid grey wolf optimizer and Nelder–Mead simplex method is developed to deal with this constrained optimization problem. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, numerical experiments on continuous apertures are conducted; then, discrete arrays of isotropic elements are employed to validate the correctness of the optimized results. Finally,patch arrays are adopted to further verify the validity of the proposed method.

The covid-19 pandemic and Economic Policy Uncertainty resulting from the shutdown of production, withdrawal of investments, enforcement of lockdowns and quarantines globally, have been directly affecting stock markets worldwide. This study is thus an attempt to analyse the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stock market behaviour in major affected economies. Moreover, the time frame was extended by using current data which investigate the impact of the virus during the boom and the blast phase in the country's most hit by the pandemic crisis such as China, Italy, UK and US. The frequency of the data is daily, and it dates from 3 January 2020 up to 10 February 2021. The considered time framework will give a deep insight into how stock markets behave in the case of an exogenous shock. The Dickey-Fuller Augmented Unit Root Test indicates that all the variables are stationary at first difference, which is one of the main conditions to have robust result, and the ARCH-LM test for the heteroskedasticity of the residuals, which show that all the probability values are significant, rejecting the null hypothesis of no ARCH effect. Based on the results of GARCH (1,1), we conclude that the change in stock markets volatility is positive and significant in China, Italy, UK and USA. This suggests that the impacts of COVID-19 outbreak and economic policy uncertainty on Stock Markets are a significant and Homogeneous across the studied countries, and the shock on FTSE Italia All Share has the longest time to vanish which makes it the riskiest to invest during this period, while the shock on SP500 USA has the shortest time to disappear meaning that it is safest Stock Market in this study. These findings have significant implications for policymakers, institutional and individual investors and Financial Markets analysts.

In the smart grid, the sharing of power data among various energy entities can make the data play a higher value. However, there may be unauthorized access while sharing data, which makes many entities unwilling to share their data to prevent data leakage. Based on blockchain and ABAC (Attribute-based Access Control) technology, this paper proposes an access control scheme, so that users can achieve fine-grained access control of their data when sharing them. The solution uses smart contract to achieve automated and reliable policy evaluation. IPFS (Interplanetary File system) is used for off-chain distributed storage to share the storage pressure of blockchain and guarantee the reliable storage of data. At the same time, all processes in the system are stored in the blockchain, ensuring the accountability of the system. Finally, the experiment proves the feasibility of the proposed scheme. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, zones based distributed energy management for isolated multi-microgrids is proposed. Loads are categorized into different zones to form zonal multi-microgrids. Each microgrid has own energy management system which can locally manages the supply and demand of its zonal load and minimize the operational cost. Distributed Network Operator (DNO) act as central controller to facilitate the energy exchange between zonal microgrids and balancing the overall system-wide supply and demand in economic way. Demand Response Program (DRP) is also utilized for peak load shifting within the scheduling horizon. In addition to minimization of operation cost, the utilization of DR will also assure the reliability of supply. In the proposed distributed energy management, each microgrid balances its supply and demand locally and exchange surplus and deficit power with other microgrids through DNO. Medical diagnosing systems contain sensitive information, especially the resulting certificate of diagnosis that involves the patient’s privacy, required to be protected carefully. An effective way is to secretly embed privacy-sensitive information into medical-generated images, eventually being viewed as arbitrary images of nobody/nothing in public. The current research line of medical steganography targets simple data-hiding methods, yet remains barren in optimal embedding and stronger robustness. To fill this gap, we propose an end-to-end steganographic framework for medical images. Our idea is to integrate medical-image adaptive steganography with a generative adversarial network (GAN), named MedSteGAN. To improve both robustness, we design an optimized U-shape gen- erator that extracts features more efficiently utilizing larger kernel convolutions and the ReLU6 function. Also, deconvolutions are replaced by upsampling and convolution layers to avoid the checkerboard effect. To enhance security and image quality, we employ visual quality loss and mean squared error (MSE) loss based on the multi-scale structural similarity index metric (MS- SSIM) and the high-pass filters, respectively. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MedSteGAN outperforms state-of-the-art steganographic schemes in terms of robustness and image quality. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Anatomically guided PET reconstruction using MRI information has been shown to have the potential to improve PET image quality. However, these improvements are limited to PET scans with paired MRI information. In this work we employed a diffusion probabilistic model (DPM) to infer T1-weightedMRI (deep-MRI) images from FDG-PET brain images. We then use the DPM-generated T1w-MRI to guide the PET reconstruction. The model was trained with brain FDG scans, and tested in datasets containing multiple levels of counts. Deep-MRI images appeared somewhat degraded than the acquired MRI images. Regarding PET image quality, volume of interest analysis in different brain regions showed that both PET reconstructed images using the acquired and the deep-MRI images improved image quality compared to OSEM. Same conclusions were found analysing the decimated datasets. A subjective evaluation performed by two physicians confirmed that OSEM scored consistently worse than the MRI-guided PET images and no significant differences were observed between the MRI-guided PET images. This proof of concept shows that it is possible to infer DPM-based MRI imagery to guide the PET reconstruction, enabling the possibility of changing reconstruction parameters such as the strength of the prior on anatomically guided PET reconstruction in the absence of MRI.
