OblivTime: Oblivious and Efficient Interval Skyline Query Processing Over Encrypted Time-Series Data

Time-series data is prevalent in many applications like smart homes, smart grids, and healthcare. And it is now increasingly common to store and query time-series data in the cloud. Despite the benefits, data privacy concerns in such outsourced services are pressing, making it imperative to embed privacy assurance mechanisms from the outset. Most existing related works have been focused on querying for different types of aggregate statistics. In this paper, we instead focus on the secure support for advanced interval skyline queries, which allow to identify time series that are not dominated by any other time series within a query time interval. This is valuable for time-series data analytics in applications like remote health monitoring (e.g., identifying patients with high heart rates in a certain week). We present OblivTime, a new system framework for oblivious and efficient interval skyline query processing over encrypted time-series data. OblivTime is built from a synergy of time-series data analytics, lightweight cryptography, and GPU parallel computing, achieving stronger security guarantees and lower online query latency over the state-of-the-art prior work. Extensive experiments demonstrate that OblivTime can achieve up to 666\times speedup in online query latency over the state-of-the-art prior work. © 2008-2012 IEEE.

Effect of individual atmospheric parameters on beam spreading of higher-order Gaussian beam

The beam spreading is essential for evaluating the higher-order Gaussian beam when it propagates through atmospheric turbulence. In this paper, we investigate the impact of individual atmospheric parameters such as jitter, turbulence, wind speed, and thermal blooming on beam spreading of Hermite Gaussian (HG), and Laguerre Gaussian (LG) beams. We also examine spot size variations due to beam quality on various HG and LG modes. It is seen that the impact of spreading caused by beam quality and turbulence is higher than that of jitter, wind speed, and thermal blooming. As the mode order increases, the effect of turbulence strength increases, leading to more spread for HG and LG beams. Spreading due to diffraction and beam quality on higher mode LG beam is higher than the HG beam in different modes. Beam spreading due to thermal blooming for the lower mode is higher compared to the higher mode for LG and HG beams. The sensitivity of higher mode LG beams to turbulence distortions is greater than HG beams as they experience more significant fractional increases in their spot size due to turbulence. The combined beam spread for the Laguerre Gaussian beam is larger than the Hermite Gaussian beam. This paper aims to understand better individual beam spreading in the atmosphere and its impact on the overall performance of higher-order laser propagation to develop optimized laser systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Soil salinity is a serious land degradation issue in *** is a major threat to agriculture *** irrigation water is applied to leach down the salts from the root zone of the plants in the form of a Leaching fraction(LF)of irrigation *** the leaching process to be effective,the LF of irriga-tion water needs to be adjusted according to the environmental conditions and soil salinity level in the form of Evapotranspiration(ET)*** relationship between environmental conditions and ET rate is hard to be deﬁned by a linear relationship and data-driven Machine learning(ML)based decisions are required to determine the calibrated Evapotranspiration(ETc)***-assisted ETc is pro-posed to adjust the LF according to the ETc and soil salinity level.A regression model is proposed to determine the ETc rate according to the prevailing tempera-ture,humidity,and sunshine,which would be used to determine the smart LF according to the ETc and soil salinity *** proposed model is trained and tested against the Blaney Criddle method of Reference evapotranspiration(ETo)*** validation of the model from the test dataset reveals the accu-racy of the ML model in terms of Root mean squared errors(RMSE)are 0.41,Mean absolute errors(MAE)are 0.34,and Mean squared errors(MSE)are 0.28 mm *** applications of the proposed solution in a real-time environ-ment show that the LF by the proposed solution is more effective in reducing the soil salinity as compared to the traditional process of leaching.

Drug discovery is an expensive and risky process. To combat the challenges in drug discovery, an increasing number of researchers and pharmaceutical companies recognize the benefits of utilizing computational techniques. Evolutionary computation (EC) offers promise as most drug discovery problems are essentially complex optimization problems beyond conventional optimization algorithms. EC methods have been widely applied to solve these complex optimization problems especially in lead com-pound generation and molecular virtual evaluation, substantially speeding up the process of drug discovery and development. This article presents a comprehensive survey of EC-based drug discovery methods. Particularly, a new taxonomy of the methods is provided and the advantages and limitations of the methods are reviewed. In addition, the potential future directions of EC-based drug discovery are discussed and the publicly available resources including databases and computational tools are compiled for the convenience of researchers seeking to pursue this field. The field of Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is growing significantly in several areas but little research focuses on cultural behavior. How machine learning can explain human activity as a promotional tool in understanding cultural differences in a region is very challenging. Studies using Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), especially Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), require large data when used to research human activity recognition. Using small data is a challenge when using LSTM. This study aims to determine which data augmentation is most appropriate when used using LSTM to predict Japanese greeting gestures, namely eshaku, keirei, saikeirei, waving hands, and Indonesian greeting gestures, namely the movement of bringing both hands together in front of the chest with a slight bow of the head. This study proposes to compare several data augmentations, namely jittering, scaling, permutation, cropping, reverse, time shifting, frequency domain, and synthetic data generation. We evaluate model performance using the Mean Squared Error (MSE), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and coefficient of determination (R2) metrics. The experimental results show that Time Shifting has the best MSE, RMSE, and MAE values compared to others and Frequency Domain has the best R2 values compared to others. This study concludes that Time Shifting and Frequency Domain are the best data augmentation methods when using LSTM in predicting greeting gestures using small data. These findings provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of various data augmentation methods in motion prediction tasks with limited data sets, as well as the importance of selecting appropriate data augmentation methods in human motion analysis. Future work could use data from two or more people using model explanations generated by machine learning and developing a new method for cultural behavior. © 2024 IEEE.

Face recognition (FR) technology has numerous applications in artificial intelligence including biometrics, security,authentication, law enforcement, and surveillance. Deep learning (DL) models, notably convolutional neuralnetworks (CNNs), have shown promising results in the field of FR. However CNNs are easily fooled since theydo not encode position and orientation correlations between features. Hinton et al. envisioned Capsule Networksas a more robust design capable of retaining pose information and spatial correlations to recognize objects morelike the brain does. Lower-level capsules hold 8-dimensional vectors of attributes like position, hue, texture, andso on, which are routed to higher-level capsules via a new routing by agreement algorithm. This provides capsulenetworks with viewpoint invariance, which has previously evaded CNNs. This research presents a FR model basedon capsule networks that was tested using the LFW dataset, COMSATS face dataset, and own acquired photos usingcameras measuring 128 × 128 pixels, 40 × 40 pixels, and 30 × 30 pixels. The trained model outperforms state-ofthe-art algorithms, achieving 95.82% test accuracy and performing well on unseen faces that have been blurred orrotated. Additionally, the suggested model outperformed the recently released approaches on the COMSATS facedataset, achieving a high accuracy of 92.47%. Based on the results of this research as well as previous results, capsulenetworks perform better than deeper CNNs on unobserved altered data because of their special equivarianceproperties.

Advances in algorithmic studies have been made recently, especially in the area of finding the shortest path. Despite taking a greedy approach, the Dijkstra algorithm is well recognized for its efficacy and has established itself as the industry standard for identifying the shortest path in a graph. Conversely, scientists have embraced the Ant-Colony Optimization (ACO) approach, which draws inspiration from the behavior of ants. This study examines the two methods and determines if, given equivalent resources, ACO can generate Dijkstra-like recommendations. Research data is subjected to both algorithms, and the outcomes are presented visually. In data measurement, Dijkstra is processed first to determine the best path, and then the ACO method is applied to produce findings that are similar to Dijkstra. Memory consumption, computation time, initial memory allocation, and final memory allocation are evaluation parameters. ACO is more efficient than Dijkstra in terms of execution time and number of pathways traversed, according to the study's repeated evaluation methodology. This iterative assessment procedure is carried out to address the possibility of single measurements resulting from the JavaScript Garbage Collector. The study's findings imply that a larger memory may be necessary for ACO to deliver the desired outcomes. These results could also be impacted by each algorithm's distinct qualities. © 2023 IEEE.
