The global medical safety standard IEC 60601-1-8 includes general requirements for the design of auditory alarms for medical equipment. This document was last amended in 2012 and is currently being updated to be released in the end of 2019. The update includes major changes in the auditory warning signals design guidelines. One of the most important is the fact that it will allow stakeholders to design different versions of the same sound. It is thus relevant to systematize the thorough and robust body of knowledge developed in recent years regarding the design of clinical auditory alarms. This paper identifies the reported problems with clinical auditory alarms;revisits early and current audio design guidelines;and systematizes recommendations or good-practices on healthcare noise, considering spectral, temporal and spatial characteristics of auditory alarms. All content is based on standards and/or experimental studies on detection, learning, subjective perception, or spatial localization. Its aim is to provide a practical tool for designers to design better clinical auditory alarms. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

A efficient data sharing system can not only accelerate the process of software development, the software itself will also be able to compensate for possible vulnerabilities which can greatly improve the quality of software. This paper analyses the storage characteristics and encoding principle of ISFF file format, using the dgnlib open source library to construct a data exchange system, realized data extraction and mapping for the DGN geometric 、DRV property data correctly, final implementated model redraw and storage by our custom file format in actual project.

The neural correlates of face individuation – the acquisition of memory representations for novel faces – have been studied only in coarse detail and disregarding individual differences between learners. In their seminal study, (Tanaka, Curran, Porterfield, & Collins, 2006) required the identification of a particular novel face across 70 trials and found that the N250 component in the ERP became more negative from the first to the second half of the experiment, where it reached a similar amplitude as a well-known face. We were unable to directly replicate this finding in our study when we used the original spilt of trials. However, when we applied a different split of trials we observed very similar changes in N250 amplitude. Then, we developed and applied a new two-step explorative-confirmative non-parametric method based on permutation testing to determine the time course of face individuation in individual participants based on single trial N250 amplitudes. We show that the assumption of a steep initial increase of N250 amplitude across multiple presentations of the target face, followed by a plateau, yields plausible results in fitting linear trends for most participants. The transition point from initial acquisition to the plateau phase differed strongly between participants and tended to be earlier when performance in target face recognition was better. Hence, face individuation may be accounted for by a biphasic process of early, fast acquisition, followed by a slower, asymptotic consolidation or maintenance phase. Mechanical Assembly Packing Problem Using Joint Constraints

The three-dimensional packing problem is generally on how to pack a set of models into a given bounding box using the smallest packaging volume. It is known as an NP-hard problem. When discussing the packing problem in mechanical field, the space utilization of a mechanism is low due to the constraint of mechanical joints between different mechanical parts. Although such a situation can be improved by breaking the mechanism into components at every joint, it burdens the user when reassembling the mechanism and may also reduce the service life of mechanical parts. In this paper, we propose a novel mechanism packing algorithm that deliberately considers the DOFs （degrees of freedom） of mechanical joints. With this algorithm, we construct the solution space according to each joint. While building the search tree of the splitting scheme, we do not break the joint, but move the joint. Therefore, the algorithm proposed in this paper just requires the minimal number of splits to meet the goal of space utilization. Numerical examples show that the proposed method is convenient and efficient to pack three-dimensional models into a given bounding box with high space utilization.

aEquipoise is an animated short about positiveness, negativity and the opposite but complementary relationship between them. The two opposite attitudes of an individuals personality not only affect but also establish emotions, decisions and behaviors. Positiveness reinforces positive thinking while pessimistic assumptions and hardship are driven by negativity. A person who has an imbalanced mind may live in pain or lead to high *** have a great mental condition, both positiveness and negativity have to be involved to establish the balance. However, the importance of negativity, in one case, pessimism was frequently ignored as a result of education that focuses on positiveness or optimism for most of the time. The animated shortEquipoise depicts the complementarity of two forces and introduces the concept of balance from an objective standpoint. The two forces are balancing for different circumstances and no matter who is leading, the other is always supporting.

aMajor Depressive Disorder MDD) is a growing mental health problem these days as it creates more social issues and creates problems for families and individuals. However, people still do not know enough about this mental disorder. The purpose of this short motion film is to provide people with a quick and effective introduction to MDD. This film explores a way to deliver essential information in a short amount of time and in a clear way for the audience to understand. It tells a story through the point-of-view of those who have friends or family members suffering from MDD. This story gives the audience key information viewers should know. The film also gives an empathy effect so information can be transferred quickly and efficiently to the ***-wise, the short motion film merges information design with motion graphics while combining 2D and 3D visual elements. In addition, the video gives a quick and efficient way to deliver information through a combination of video, animation, graphic design, and voice-over explanation.

Cavities are crucial for interactions of proteins with other molecules. While a variety of different cavity types exists, tunnels in particular play an important role, as they enable a ligand to deeply enter the active site of a protein where chemical reactions can undergo. Consequently, domain scientists are interested in understanding properties relevant for binding interactions inside molecular tunnels. Unfortunately, when inspecting a 3D representation of the molecule under investigation, tunnels are difficult to analyze due to occlusion issues. Therefore, within this paper we propose a novel reprojection technique that transforms the 3D structure of a molecule to obtain a 2D representation of the tunnel interior. The reprojection has been designed with respect to application-oriented design guidelines, we have identified together with our domain partners. To comply with these guidelines, the transformation preserves individual residues, while the result is capable of showing binding properties inside the tunnel without suffering from occlusions. Thus the reprojected tunnel interior can be used to display physico-chemical properties, e.g., hydrophobicity or amino acid orientation, of residues near a tunnel’s surface. As these properties are essential for the interaction between protein and ligand, they can thus hint angles of attack for protein engineers. To demonstrate the benefits of the developed visualization, the obtained results are discussed with respect to domain expert feedback. © 2017 The Eurographics Association.

A wide variety of predictive analytics techniques have been developed in statistics, machine learning and data mining; however, many of these algorithms take a black-box approach in which data is input and future predictions are output with no insight into what goes on during the process. Unfortunately, such a closed system approach often leaves little room for injecting domain expertise and can result in frustration from analysts when results seem snurious or confusing. In order to allow for more human-centric approaches, the visualization community has begun developing methods to enable users to incorporate expert knowledge into the pre- diction process at all stages, including data cleaning, feature selection, model building and model validation. This paper surveys current progress and trends in predictive visual ana- lytics, identifies the common framework in which predictive visual analytics systems operate, and develops a summariza- tion of the predictive analytics workfiow.

View-Aware Image Object Compositing and Synthesis from Multiple Sources

Image compositing is widely used to combine visual elements from separate source images into a single image. Although recent image compositing techniques are capable of achieving smooth blending of the visual elements from different sources, most of them implicitly assume the source images are taken in the same viewpoint. In this paper, we present an approach to compositing novel image objects from multiple source images which have different viewpoints. Our key idea is to construct 3D proxies for meaningful components of the source image objects, and use these 3D component proxies to warp and seamlessly merge components together in the same viewpoint. To realize this idea, we introduce a coordinate- frame based single-view camera calibration algorithm to handle general types of image objects, a structure-aware cuboid optimization algorithm to get the cuboid proxies for image object components with correct structure relationship, and finally a 3D-proxy transformation guided image warping algorithm to stitch object components. We further describe a novel application based on this compositing approach to automatically synthesize a large number of image objects from a set of exemplars. Experimental results show that our compositing approach can be applied to a variety of image objects, such as chairs, cups, lamps, and robots, and the synthesis application can create novel image objects with significant shape and style variations from a small set of exemplars.
