R2A-UNET: double attention mechanisms with residual blocks for enhanced MRI image segmentation

Gliomas, a highly aggressive and malignant category of brain tumors, continue to pose a significant global health challenge. Originating from the abnormal and uncontrolled growth of glial cells within the brain, these tumors often result in severe neurological impairments and high mortality rates, underscoring the urgency for improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Early diagnosis can significantly improve outcomes and survival. Consequently, precise segmentation of tumor tissue in medical images is critical for accurate brain tumor diagnosis and effective treatment. However, achieving high-precision segmentation remains challenging due to the complex and variable nature of tumor structures in medical images. To address this problem, we developed R2A-UNET, a U-shaped architecture that leverages the power of residual blocks and attention mechanisms. To enhance the model’s ability to capture critical and relevant information, we incorporated two advanced attention mechanisms. These mechanisms are designed to prioritize important features while suppressing irrelevant or redundant details, thereby significantly improving the efficiency and accuracy of feature extraction across varying datasets. Normalized Channel Attention (NCA) was integrated in each encoder stage, generating a squeezed vector with relevant features at the end of the contracting path. Normalized Spatial Attention (NSA) was included in the skip connection in the middle of the encoder and decoder, generating more concentrated feature maps before concatenation on the decoder side. These mechanisms enable the model to focus on specific pixel values that more accurately localize abnormalities. In our study, we evaluated the performance of our model using two MRI image datasets: the LGG (Lower-Grade Glioma) segmentation database and the BraTS 2018 dataset. In this work we propose a privacy-preserving, blockchain-enabled e-voting system that integrates Linkable Ring Signatures (LRS) to ensure a secure, scalable, and privacypreserving solution for modern e-voting, providing a framework for trusted and transparent electoral processes in the digital age. Our system ensures voter anonymity while preventing double voting through the use of a linkability tag, while blockchain technology is employed to provide an immutable and transparent ledger for vote recording. The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) is utilized for decentralized and GDPR-compliant storage of public keys. Performance analysis shows scalability challenges for LRS in large elections, but the system remains efficient for small scale use. Future work will focus on optimizing scalability for larger deployments. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we introduce InternVL 1.5, an open-source multimodal large language model(MLLM) to bridge the capability gap between open-source and proprietary commercial models in multimodal understanding. We introduce three simple improvements.(1) Strong vision encoder: we explored a continuous learning strategy for the large-scale vision foundation model — InternViT-6B, boosting its visual understanding capabilities, and making it can be transferred and reused in different LLMs.(2) Dynamic high-resolution: we divide images into tiles ranging from 1 to 40 of 448×448 pixels according to the aspect ratio and resolution of the input images, which supports up to 4K resolution input.(3) High-quality bilingual dataset: we carefully collected a high-quality bilingual dataset that covers common scenes, document images,and annotated them with English and Chinese question-answer pairs, significantly enhancing performance in optical character recognition(OCR) and Chinese-related tasks. We evaluate InternVL 1.5 through a series of benchmarks and comparative studies. Compared to both open-source and proprietary commercial models, InternVL 1.5 shows competitive performance, achieving state-of-the-art results in 8 of 18 multimodal benchmarks. A Novel Divide and Conquer Solution for Long-term Video Salient Object Detection

Recently,a new research trend in our video salient object detection(VSOD)research community has focused on enhancing the detection results via model self-fine-tuning using sparsely mined high-quality keyframes from the given *** such a learning scheme is generally effective,it has a critical limitation,i.e.,the model learned on sparse frames only possesses weak generalization *** situation could become worse on“long”videos since they tend to have intensive scene ***,in such videos,the keyframe information from a longer time span is less relevant to the previous,which could also cause learning conflict and deteriorate the model ***,the learning scheme is usually incapable of handling complex pattern *** solve this problem,we propose a divide-and-conquer framework,which can convert a complex problem domain into multiple simple ***,we devise a novel background consistency analysis(BCA)which effectively divides the mined frames into disjoint *** for each group,we assign an individual deep model on it to capture its key attribute during the fine-tuning *** the testing phase,we design a model-matching strategy,which could dynamically select the best-matched model from those fine-tuned ones to handle the given testing *** experiments show that our method can adapt severe background appearance variation coupling with object movement and obtain robust saliency detection compared with the previous scheme and the state-of-the-art methods.

Weighted binary ELM optimized by the reptile search algorithm, application to credit card fraud detection

Binary classification tasks often face challenges due to imbalanced datasets. The Weighted Binary Extreme Learning Machine (WB-ELM) has emerged as a potential solution, but its performance relies heavily on tuning fundamental parameters. In the suggested algorithm, we adopt an automated weighting system that plays a crucial role in determining the degree of rebalancing and its limits in favor of the dominant class. This unique aspect allows users to specify weights for each sample, making our algorithm a member of the cost-sensitive learning family. We also focus on optimizing key hyperparameters, including the regularization parameter C and σ, the parameter of the RBF kernel activation function used in the hidden layer. This study explores the use of intelligent optimization techniques to enhance WB-ELM's effectiveness. We introduce the Reptile Search Algorithm (RSA) and compare it with established optimization algorithms like Particle Swarm Optimization, Bat Algorithm, and Dandelion Algorithm in the context of imbalanced binary classification. The focus on optimizing WB-ELM through intelligent optimization techniques, particularly the novel introduction of the Reptile Search Algorithm, represents a significant contribution to the field. Our empirical findings demonstrate RSA's superiority in achieving enhanced outcomes. Additionally, we apply the proposed method to detect credit card fraud, a domain requiring real-time identification and accurate results. Our approach underscores the importance of addressing imbalanced datasets through WB-ELM and selecting appropriate optimization algorithms. Our model is deployed on five binary-class datasets, demonstrating strong performance in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score.
