A novel adaptive multiple dependent state sampling plan(AMDSSP)was designed to inspect products from a continuous manufacturing process under the accelerated life test(ALT)using both double sampling plan(DSP)and multiple dependent state sampling plan(MDSSP)*** accelerated conditions,the lifetime of a product follows the Weibull distribution with a known shape parameter,while the scale parameter can be determined using the acceleration factor(AF).The Arrhenius model is used to estimate AF when the damaging process is *** economic design of the proposed sampling plan was also considered for the ALT.A genetic algorithm with nonlinear optimization was used to estimate optimal plan parameters to minimize the average sample number(ASN)and total cost of inspection(TC)under both producer’s and consumer’s *** results are presented to support the AMDSSP for the ALT,while performance comparisons between the AMDSSP,the MDSSP and a single sampling plan(SSP)for the ALT are *** indicated that the AMDSSP was more flexible and efficient for ASN and TC than the MDSSP and SSP plans under accelerated *** AMDSSP also had a higher operating characteristic(OC)curve than both the existing sampling *** real datasets of electronic devices for the ALT at high temperatures demonstrated the practicality and usefulness of the proposed sampling plan.

The design of a new adaptive version of the multiple dependent state(AMDS)sampling plan is presented based on the time truncated life test under the Weibull *** achieved the proposed sampling plan by applying the concept of the double sampling plan and existing multiple dependent state sampling plans.A warning sign for acceptance number was proposed to increase the probability of current lot *** optimal plan parameters were determined simultaneously with nonlinear optimization problems under the producer’s risk and consumer’s risk.A simulation study was presented to support the proposed sampling plan.A comparison between the proposed and existing sampling plans,namely multiple dependent state(MDS)sampling plans and a modified multiple dependent state(MMDS)sampling plan,was considered under the average sampling number and operating characteristic curve *** addition,the use of two real datasets demonstrated the practicality and usefulness of the proposed sampling *** results indicated that the proposed plan is more flexible and efficient in terms of the average sample number compared to the existing MDS and MMDS sampling plans.

The study of structures involving vortices in one component and bright solitary waves in another has a time-honored history in two-component atomic Bose-Einstein condensates. In the present work, we revisit this topic, extending considerations well past the near-integrable regime of nearly equal scattering lengths. Instead, we focus on stationary states and spectral stability of such structures for large values of the intercomponent interaction coefficient. We find that the state can manifest dynamical instabilities for suitable parameter values. We also explore a phenomenological, yet quantitatively accurate upon suitable tuning, particle model which, also in line with earlier works, offers the potential of accurately following the associated stability and dynamical features. Finally, we probe the dynamics of the unstable vortex-bright structure, observing an unprecedented, to our knowledge, instability scenario in which the oscillatory instability leads to a patch of vorticity that harbors and eventually ejects multiple vortex-bright structures.

When a predictive model is in production, it must be monitored in real-time to ensure that its performance does not suffer due to drift or abrupt changes to data. Ideally, this is done long before learning that the performance of the model itself has dropped by monitoring outcome data. In this paper we consider the problem of monitoring a predictive model that identifies the need for palliative care currently in production at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. We introduce a framework, called Bayes Watch, for detecting change-points in high-dimensional longitudinal data with mixed variable types and missing values and for determining in which variables the change-point occurred. Bayes Watch fits an array of Gaussian Graphical Mixture Models to groupings of homogeneous data in time, called regimes, which are modeled as the observed states of a Markov process with unknown transition probabilities. In doing so, Bayes Watch defines a posterior distribution on a vector of regime assignments, which gives meaningful expressions on the probability of every possible change-point. Combining strengths from deep learning and extreme value theory can help describe complex relationships between variables where extreme events have significant impacts (e.g., environmental or financial applications). Neural networks learn complicated nonlinear relationships from large datasets under limited parametric assumptions. By definition, the number of occurrences of extreme events is small, which limits the ability of the data-hungry, nonparametric neural network to describe rare events. Inspired by recent extreme cold winter weather events in North America caused by atmospheric blocking, we examine several probabilistic generative models for the entire multivariate probability distribution of daily boreal winter surface air temperature. We propose metrics to measure spatial asymmetries, such as long-range anticorrelated patterns that commonly appear in temperature fields during blocking events. Compared to vine copulas, the statistical standard for multivariate copula modeling, deep learning methods show improved ability to reproduce complicated asymmetries in the spatial distribution of ERA5 temperature reanalysis, including the spatial extent of in-sample extreme events. © 2023, CC BY.

This article investigates the peristaltic heat transport for the Jeffery fluid flow over an inclined porous ciliated duct. A uniform magnetic field is considered in the momentum equation. Additionally, boussinesq approximation, Joule heating and thermal slip condition is part of temperature equation in order to enhance the heat transport distribution. Closed form exact solution of emerging differential system is attained by the program intended in the MATHEMATICA software called DSolve. The physical insight of number of parameters have been displayed graphically. It is perceived that by increasing ratio of relaxation to retardation times the favorable pressure switches to adverse pressure, which will consequently retards the flow velocity. There exists a wide array of peristaltic pumps tailored for specific settings such as laboratories, industrial contexts, chemical handling, and even tumescent procedures. These pumps showcase the versatility to effectively manage fluids spanning a spectrum of viscosities, encompassing acidic, alkaline, and sterile compositions. Peristaltic pumps have several implications, including their ability to transport a wide range of fluids. These pumps find applications in devices like infusion pumps and dialysis machines, particularly when dealing with fluids that can be corrosive or potentially harmful to the system. © 2024, The Authors. Post-pandemic social contacts in Italy: implications for social distancing measures on in-person school and work attendance

The collection of updated data on social contact patterns after the disruptions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic is of critical importance for future epidemiological evaluations and for the assessment of non-pharmaceutical interventions based on physical distancing. Here, we run two waves of the same online survey on March 2022 and March 2023 in Italy, collecting information from a representative sample of the population on direct (verbal or physical interactions) and indirect (prolonged co-location in indoor spaces) contacts. We investigated the determinants of an individual’s total number of social contacts using a generalized linear mixed model and assessed the potential impact of work-from-home and distance learning on the transmissibility of novel respiratory pathogens. We found that in-person attendance to work or school was among the main drivers of social contacts: among adults (age 18 or more), in-person attendees reported a mean of 1.69 (95%CI: 1.56-1.84) times the contacts of adults staying at home;this ratio increased to 2.38 (95%CI: 1.98-2.87) among children and adolescents (less than 18 years old). We estimated that even drastic measures suspending all non-essential working activities, in the absence of any other preventive measures, would result in a marginal reduction of transmissibility. The combination of distance learning covering educational levels from the primary and upwards, with work-from-home for all jobs allowing for it, could reduce transmissibility by up to 23.7% (95%CI: 18.2-29.0%). Additionally suspending early childcare services would result in minimal further gains. These results provide useful data for modelling the transmission of respiratory pathogens in Italy after the end of the COVID-19 emergency. They also provide insights on the potential epidemiological effectiveness of social distancing interventions centred on work and school attendance, supporting considerations on the balance between the expected benefits and their heavy

The novel constructive EHands protocol defines a universal set of quantum operations for multivariable polynomial transformations on quantum processors by introducing four basic subcircuits—multiplication, addition, negation, and parity flip—and by using expectation-value encoding (EVEN) to represent real numbers in quantum states. These elementary arithmetic operations can be systematically composed to compute degree-d polynomials, Pd(x), on a QPU. The resulting quantum circuit structure closely mirrors the stepwise evaluation of polynomials on a classical calculator, providing an intuitive and efficient approach to polynomial computation on quantum hardware. By enabling direct, predictable polynomial and nonlinear data transformations on a QPU, our method reduces dependence on classical post-processing in hybrid quantum-classical algorithms, enabling advancements in many quantum algorithms. The EHands quantum circuits are compact enough to deliver meaningful and accurate results on today’s noisy quantum processors. We present a detailed implementation of P4(x) and report experimental results for polynomial approximations of common functions, obtained using IBM’s Heron-class quantum processors and an ideal Qiskit simulator. Beyond a binary theorizing of prosociality

A stylized experiment, the public goods game, has taught us the peculiar reproducible fact that humans tend to contribute more to shared resources than expected from economically rational assumptions. There have been two competing explanations for this phenomenon: either contributing to the public good is an innate human trait (the prosocial preference hypothesis) or a transitory effect while learning the game (the confused learner hypothesis). We use large-scale experimental data from a novel experimental design to distinguish between these two hypotheses. By monitoring the effects of zealots (persistently cooperating bots) and varying the participants’ awareness of them, we find a considerably more complex scenario than previously reported. People indeed have a prosocial bias, but not to the degree that they always forego taking action to increase their profit. While our findings end the simplistic theorizing of prosociality in the public goods game, an observed positive, cooperative response to zealots has actionable policy implications. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.
