Teeth YOLACT: An Instance Segmentation Model Based on Impacted Tooth Panoramic X-Ray images

The instance segmentation of impacted teeth in the oral panoramic X-ray images is hotly researched. However, due to the complex structure, low contrast, and complex background of teeth in panoramic X-ray images, the task of instance segmentation is technically tricky. In this study, the contrast between impacted Teeth and periodontal tissues such as gingiva, periodontal membrane, and alveolar bone is low, resulting in fuzzy boundaries of impacted teeth. A model based on Teeth YOLACT is proposed to provide a more efficient and accurate solution for the segmentation of impacted teeth in oral panoramic X-ray films. Firstly, a Multi-scale Res-Transformer Module (MRTM) is designed. In the module, depthwise separable convolutions with different receptive fields are used to enhance the sensitivity of the model to lesion size. Additionally, the Vision Transformer is integrated to improve the model’s ability to perceive global features. Secondly, the Context Interaction-awareness Module (CIaM) is designed to fuse deep and shallow features. The deep semantic features guide the shallow spatial features. Then, the shallow spatial features are embedded into the deep semantic features, and the cross-weighted attention mechanism is used to aggregate the deep and shallow features efficiently, and richer context information is obtained. Thirdly, the Edge-preserving perception Module (E2PM) is designed to enhance the teeth edge features. The first-order differential operator is used to get the tooth edge weight, and the perception ability of tooth edge features is improved. The shallow spatial feature is fused by linear mapping, weight concatenation, and matrix multiplication operations to preserve the tooth edge information. Finally, comparison experiments and ablation experiments are conducted on the oral panoramic X-ray image datasets. New method in information processing for maintaining an efficient dynamic ordered set

This paper investigates how to maintain an efficient dynamic ordered set of bit strings, which is an important problem in the field of information search and information processing. Generally, a dynamic ordered set is required to support 5 essential operations including search, insertion, deletion, max-value retrieval and next-larger-value retrieval. Based on previous research fruits, we present an advanced data structure named rich binary tree （RBT）, which follows both the binary-search-tree property and the digital-search-tree property. Also, every key K keeps the most significant difference bit （MSDB） between itself and the next larger value among K＇s ancestors, as well as that between itself and the next smaller one among its ancestors. With the new data structure, we can maintain a dynamic ordered set in O（L） time. Since computers represent objects in binary mode, our method has a big potential in application. In fact, RBT can be viewed as a general-purpose data structure for problems concerning order, such as search, sorting and maintaining a priority queue. For example, when RBT is applied in sorting, we get a linear-time algorithm with regard to the key number and its performance is far better than quick-sort. What is more powerful than quick-sort is that RBT supports constant-time dynamic insertion/deletion.

We present a method to couple particle-based fluid simulation methods such as Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and volume rendering in order to visualize the fluid. A volume is generated from the fluid's implicit density field so volume raycasting can be performed to render the surface on the GPU. The volume generation algorithm is also implemented in the GPU and is suitable to be used with both SPH simulations implemented on CPU and GPU. We compare different implementations of fluid simulation, demonstrating the modularity of the volume generation method and concluding that it can be used together with other particle-based simulation models and other volume rendering techniques. © 2010 IEEE.

We present a method to efficiently simulate fluid flows through tubular structures such as pipes and blood vessels. The method relies on the structure's centerline and for that purpose we present an algorithm to generate an approximate centerline of a tubular structure defined by an ordinary polygonal mesh. As an additional benefit, this centerline provides approximations of measures about the tubular structure such as length of regions of interest and crosssection diameters. The fluid is simulated with the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method and the fluid-structure interaction is simplified to provide interactive rates. The particles can be colored according to physical quantities to better visualize the evolution of the fluid's state in narrow and otherwise obstructed areas. © 2009 IEEE.

computer Aided Diagnostic comprises wide research areas with stability and reliability software requirements. We propose a set of libraries aiming to provide a development framework for medical applications. This framework's libraries, mostly written from scratch (e.g Core library), were developed for both medical imaging systems and general physical simulations. Their internal interactions tend to be transparent to the developer and easy to use at the same time while providing flexibility to interact with other codes. The robustness of the code is shown in complex applications like the medical workstation here exemplified, while its flexibility and fast prototyping characteristics are exemplified with some simple demonstrations. © 2009 IEEE.

Texture is a very important concept for many image understanding and pattern classification applications. The analysis of texture can be performed by the multi-channel filtering theory, a classical theory for texture perception based on the early stages of human visual system. This approach decomposes an image into a set of responses given by a bank of Gabor filters, that nearly covers in an uniformly manner the spatial-frequency domain. This approach relies on the image dimensions, and the number of kernels in a bank of Gabor filters varies according to the number of combinations between frequencies and orientations. In many practical applications, this large number of combinations makes quickly unfeasible the computation of the whole bank of filters. To ease this problem, in this paper we propose a multi-channel filtering where the Gabor bank for texture discrimination is computed in parallel in a graphics processing unit (GPU). Experimental results show an improvement of 8.78 times for feature extraction when compared against the corresponding CPU-based approach. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Accelerometers integrated in modern smartphones pave the way to intuitively use gestures for collaboratively controlling interactive applications. Using and holding smartphones has become natural and ensures user acceptance as well as intuitive handling. We focus on using accelerators in several smartphones at the same time to interactively control a medical imaging solution. To this end, we introduce a framework to collect, modify, and distribute acceleration sensor data from multiple smartphones and integrate it with a medical imaging system which results in an environment suitable for e.g. doctors reviewing and explaining diagnostic findings. We performed some experiments to evaluate the usability of this approach and present an ongoing research in adapting the smartphone interface to physical simulation applications. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper we present a semiautomatic method for skin identification in video sequences. The user trains the system by selecting in a frame some typical positive skin pixels, that will be used as a reference for the construction of a nonlinear distance metric. In this learning process the global optimum is obtained by induction employing higher polynomial terms of the Mahalanobis distance, extracting nonlinear features of the skin pattern distributions. These nonlinear features are then used to classify the frames captured from the camera, identifying all skin and non-skin regions on the scene. We adopt an estrategy which enables this method to run in real-time after some iteractions. We also compare our classification method against vector norm (L2) and Mahalanobis distance, showing a better classification for the skin patterns. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.
