We analyze a database containing medical data of patients who suffered hemorrhagic stroke. From the original database we built the corresponding comorbidities network, and we analyzed this network using a graph theoretical approach. Our main tool was to analyze the spectrum of the normalized Laplacian matrix of the network.

Queuing theory has been extensively used in the modelling and performance analysis of cloud computing systems. The phenomenon of the task (or request) reneging, that is, the dropping of requests from the request queue often occur in cloud computing systems, and it is important to consider it when developing performance evaluations models for cloud computing infrastructures. Majority of studies in the performance evaluation of cloud computing data centres with the use of queuing theory do not consider the fact that the tasks could be removed from queue without being serviced. The removal of tasks from the queue could be due to the user impatience, execution deadline expiration, security reasons, or as an active queue management strategy. The reneging could be correlated in nature, that is, if a request is dropped (or reneged) at any time epoch, and then there is a probability that a request may or may not be dropped at the next time epoch. This kind of dropping (or reneging) of requests is referred to as correlated request reneging. In this paper we have modelled a cloud computing infrastructure with correlated request reneging using queuing theory. An M/M/1/N queuing model with correlated reneging has been used to study the performance analysis of the load balancing server of a cloud computing system. The steady-state as well as the transient performance analyses have been carried out. Important measures of performance like average queue size, average delay, probability of task blocking, and the probability of no waiting in the queue are studied. Finally, some comparisons are performed which describe the effect of correlated task reneging over simple exponential reneging.

We present the first VR training simulator for hip replacement surgeries. We solved the main challenges of this task - high and stable forces during the milling process while simultaneously a very sensitive feedback is required - by using an industrial robot for the force output and the development of a novel massively parallel haptic rendering algorithm with support for material removal.

In free-viewpoint video arbitrary views of a scene or an object are rendered from a 3-dimensional scene representation that is obtained using multiple cameras or generated by computergraphics. The interactivity that is due to the viewpoint selection is particularly challenging in case of networked applications, where a server renders the scene from a viewpoint that is chosen by a remote client. Relying on widely-used standard browser-based video streaming technology, data transport is performed by the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), implying an anticipated risk of potentially large delays. The magnitude, frequency, and origin of such delays are the focus of this work. To investigate the tail distribution of the delays, we use a controlled testbed environment and instrument the entire video streaming chain from the server-side renderer to the display at the client using various measurement points. We identify three major sources of delays: the video coders, the protocol stack, and the network. We investigate the causes of these delays and show a strong impact of network parameters, such as round-trip time and packet loss probability, on protocol stack delays. While stack delays can significantly exceed network delays, we find that stack delays can be reduced effectively by adapting the parameters of the video encoder.

The mobile robot adapts to the more complicated indoor and outdoor environments, and can expand its scope of application. In order to reduce the influence of the cumulative error caused by navigation in complex environments, the indoor mobile robot that combines Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and encoder fusion is designed and implemented. In view of the limitations of the traditional single lidar scheme, a Multi-sensor Fusion scheme is proposed to achieve indoor map construction, path planning, multi-point navigation and other functions, and a MSIF KartoSLAM (Multi-sensor Information Fusion) algorithm is proposed, which combines the KartoSLAM algorithm and Multi-sensor information to achieve map construction in complex environments. Through comprehensive testing in the indoor environment, the results show that the Multi-sensor Fusion scheme is superior to the traditional single lidar scheme, and can achieve higher accuracy in mapping and navigation. At the same time, the robot platform can also be combined with the Internet of Things technology and integrated into intelligent housing system.

Due to the limitation of hardware resources, the traditional people flow monitoring system based on computer vision in public places can't meet different crowd-scale scenarios. Therefore, a people flow monitoring system based on MD-MCNN algorithm is designed, which is an application system combining the improved SSD object detection algorithm MNSSD and MCNN density map regression algorithm. In the initial stage, the system uses MNSSD for accurate detection and counting. If the people flow gradually reaches a certain threshold, the system automatically uses MCNN to estimate people flow until the people flow falls below the threshold. Through the experimental verification, the system can realize the people flow statistics of low-density and high-density people in different scenarios, and can be applied on the existing embedded platform. This scheme can be extended to smart cities, smart scenic spots, smart transportation and other fields.

In this study, I created and validated a research-informed protocol to answer the question, "How can user experience UX) designers generate design insights for mobile application onboarding through the lens of minimalist instruction?"High first-day abandonment rates for mobile applications indicate an opportunity for improvement by adding onboarding, which encompasses design elements and principles that help new users successfully accomplish their goals. Engaging new users in meaningful interaction was a critical part of onboarding effectiveness. However, common methods for generating onboarding design insights were ineffective at eliciting and capturing meaningful onboarding interaction. I proposed a protocol that provides such *** protocol drew on minimalist instruction principles to engage twelve participants in an iterative set of design and evaluation activities using a physical prototype. The first six participants completed preset tasks, translated the experiences into card-based task flows, and optimized them. I generated onboarding design insights from the card task flows and recordings. Then, I made some minor protocol refinements and engaged the last six participants in semi-structured prototype exploration and reflection bookended by structured mini-interviews. This allowed me to capture participant meaning-making processes into a card-based task flow during interaction instead of after. I generated design insights in this round using the card task flows, session transcripts, and structured mini-interviews. The first approach generated some useful insights, but the insights of the second approach were more nuanced and incisive.

aCurrently, methods to analyze indoor airflow are restricted to an engineering point of view. These methods are often time consuming and very specialized. This research examines how virtual reality can play a role in architectural visualization and interior design by visualizing indoor airflow in a residential setting. A study was conducted in which users experienced an interactive visualization to determine if virtual reality aided their understanding of airflow in a given room. Suggestions were then offered on how this research could be expanded and incorporated into interior design to improve the airflow quality of indoor environments.
