When modeling in 3D CAD, architects often search for already existing 3D content to complete their own design, e.g. environmental models, furniture models or detailed window profiles. 3D models are normally indexed and accessed based on textual metadata. As this metadata is expensive to obtain, PROBADO3D aims to develop workflows and tools for semi-automatic indexing of 3D models. Another goal is the development of intuitive visual search and presentation interfaces that face the needs of architects looking for 3D content. PROBADO3D is a part of the PROBADO framework designed to support multimedia objects of different domains.
In this paper we present an interactive method for simulating deformable objects using skeletal constraints. We introduce a two-way coupling of a finite element model and a skeleton that is attached to this model. The...

Predictive statistical models are used in the area of adaptive user interfaces to model user behavior and to infer user information from interaction events in an implicit and non-intrusive way. This information constitutes the basis for tailoring the user interface to the needs of the individual user. Consequently, the user analysis process should model the user with information, which can be used in various systems to recognize user activities, intentions and roles to accomplish an adequate adaptation to the given user and his current task. In this paper we present the improved prediction algorithm KO*/19, which is able to recognize, beside interaction predictions, behavioral patterns for recognizing user activities. By means of this extension, the evaluation shows that the KO*/19Algorithm improves the Mean Prediction Rank more than 19% compared to other well-established prediction algorithms.

In this tech-note we demonstrate how multi-touch hand gestures in combination with foot gestures can be used to perform navigation tasks in interactive 3D environments. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are well suited as a complex testbed for evaluation of user interfaces based on multi-modal input. Recent developments in the area of interactive surfaces enable the construction of low-cost multi-touch displays and relatively inexpensive sensor technology to detect foot gestures, which allows to explore these input modalities for virtual reality environments. In this tech-note, we describe an intuitive 3D user interface metaphor and corresponding hardware, which combine multi-touch hand and foot gestures for interaction with spatial data.

Architects use a variety of analog and digital tools and media to plan and design constructions. Immersive virtual reality (VR) technologies have shown great potential for architectural design, especially for exploration and review of design proposals. In this work we propose a virtual studio system, which allows architects and clients to use arbitrary real-world tools such as maps or rulers during immersive exploration of virtual 3D models. The user interface allows architects and clients to review designs and compose 3D architectural scenes, combining benefits of mixed-reality environments with immersive head-mounted display setups.
Animations of horses are commonly used for entertainment purposes. A realistic animated model must move with a gait appropriate to its velocity. We present a kinematic animation system in which a horse model moves usi...
