While the growing demand for new building models contained in virtual worlds, games, and movies, makes the easy and fast creation of modifiable models more and more important, 3D modeling of buildings can be a tedious task due to their sometimes complex geometry. For historic buildings, especially the roofs can be challenging. We present a new method of combining simple building solids to form more complex buildings, and give an emphasis on the blending of roof faces. This can be integrated in common pipelines for procedural modeling of buildings and will bring more expressiveness than existing methods.

A novel concept of a measurement technology for the localization and determination of the size of gas bubbles is presented, which is intended to contribute to a further understanding of the dynamics of efficiency-reducing gas bubbles in electrolyzers. A simplified proof-of-concept (POC) model is used to numerically simulate the electric current flow through materials with significant differences in electrical conductivity. Through an automated approach, an extensive data set of electric current density and conductivity distributions is generated, complemented with determined magnetic flux densities in the surroundings of the POC cell at virtual sensor positions. The generated data set serves as testing data for various reconstruction approaches. Based on the measurable magnetic flux density, solving Biot-Savart’s law inversely is demonstrated and discussed with a model-based solution of an optimization problem, of which the gas bubble locations are derived. © 2023, CC BY.

The paper deal with 3D graphics simulators history. Several generation of space simulators that were used in training centers including Yu. A. Gagarin Russian State Scientific-Research and Test Centre of Cosmonaut Training (Moscow, Russia) are discussed. Number of US-Russia international space station programs use these cosmonaut training system in order to increase the efficiency of crews' space activities, and to ensure safe manned flights. Today we introduce powerful PC-based solution for Virtual Studio. Formal requirements for such a system are declared and its distributed architecture implementation is briefly outlined.

Quality assessment of different Magnetic Resonance Fingerprinting (MRF) sequences and their corresponding dictionaries remains an unsolved problem. In this work we present a method in which we approach analysis of MRF dictionaries by performing dimensionality reduction and representing them as low-dimensional point sets (embeddings). Dimensionality reduction was performed using a modification of the t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (t-SNE) algorithm. First, we demonstrated stability of calculated embeddings that allows neglecting the stochastic nature of t-SNE. Next, we proposed and analyzed two algorithms for comparing the embeddings. Finally, we performed two simulations in which we reduced the MRF sequence/dictionary in length or size and analyzed the influence of this reduction on the resulting embedding. We believe that this research can pave the way to development of a software tool for analysis, including better understanding, optimization and comparison, of different MRF sequences. © 2019, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In recent years interactive visualization of 3D data has become important and widespread due to the requirements of several application areas. However, current user interfaces often lack adequate support for 3D interactions: 2D desktop systems are often limited in cases where natural interaction with 3D content is required, and 3D user interfaces consisting of stereoscopic projections and tracked input devices are rarely adopted by ordinary users. Touch interaction has received considerable attention for 2D interfaces, and more recently for 3D interfaces. Many touch devices now support multiple degrees of freedom input by capturing multiple 2D contact positions on the surface as well as varying levels of pressure and even depth. There is great potential for multi-touch interfaces to provide the traditionally difficult to achieve combination of natural 3D interaction without any instrumentation. When combined with a stereoscopic display as well as depth cameras, we believe that multi-touch technology can form the basis for a next generation of 3D user interfaces. Several research groups have begun to explore the potential, limitations, and challenges of this and other 3D touch environments, and first commercial systems are already available. The goal of the SIG "Touching the 3rd Dimension (T3D)" is to address the research and industrial challenges involved in exploring the space where the flat digital world of surface computing meets the physical, spatially complex, 3D space in which we live. The meeting will provide a common forum to attract groups of conference attendees who share their visions of the future and recent results in the area of improving 3D interaction and visualization by taking advantage of the strengths of advanced multi-touch computing.

Morphology of cardiovascular tissue is influenced by the unsteady behavior of the blood flow and vice versa. Therefore, the pathogenesis of several cardiovascular diseases is directly affected by the blood-flow dynamics. Understanding flow behavior is of vital importance to understand the cardiovascular system and potentially harbors a considerable value for both diagnosis and risk assessment. The analysis of hemodynamic characteristics involves qualitative and quantitative inspection of the blood-flow field. visualization plays an important role in the qualitative exploration, as well as the definition of relevant quantitative measures and its validation. There are two main approaches to obtain information about the blood flow: simulation by computational fluid dynamics, and in-vivo measurements. Although research on blood flow simulation has been performed for decades, many open problems remain concerning accuracy and patient-specific solutions. Possibilities for real measurement of blood flow have recently increased considerably by new developments inmagnetic resonance imaging which enable the acquisition of 3Dquantitative measurements of blood-flow velocity fields. This chapter presents the visualization challenges for both simulation and real measurements of unsteady blood-flow fields. © Springer-Verlag London 2014.

In interacting with a soft object, both visual and haptic senses play major role in providing the characteristics of the object. While visual feedback comes from the appearance of the overall shape, haptic feedback comes largely from the localized internal composition. However, it has been a common practice to represent the object with one model for both processing shape de formation and computing the feedback force, making it much challenging work to achieve real-time simulation of a soft and especially non-homogeneous object. In this paper, we claim that it may be sufficient to represent the graphical visual model as a surface model whereas it is necessary to represent the haptic model as a volumetric model. We propose, therefore, a hybrid model where volumetric haptic model and surface graphical model coexist. For constructing hybrid model, we employ S-chain model to compute the haptic behavior and mass-spring model to calculate graphic behavior. We conduct experiments with volumetric human liver model at a haptic update rate of 1000 Hz and graphic update rate of 30 Hz. The experimental results show that our proposed model satisfies the real-time performance and provides the realistic sense to be useful for a virtual reality application.

Runtime Verification is a software testing technique based on extracting and analyzing information from a system while it is running. The objective is to use this information to find faults or problems in the system under test. To achieve this, it is necessary that the insertion of testing logic does not modify the code being tested and that it does not affect the performance of the system. In this article, we present a runtime testing framework for JavaScript, which utilizes Aspect-Oriented Programming and regular expressions. This framework encapsulates the idea of Message Sequence Specification applied to Runtime Verification. Our work is freely available and open source.
