Authoring graph visualization requires advanced programming skills, expert domain knowledge, and significant workload. Existing authoring tools either support limited templates of graph visualization, or suffer from a high learning cost. We analyze the design requirements on a tool for graph visualizations, and contribute Nuwa, a user-friendly declarative authoring tool for the interactive specification of graph visualizations in terms of data, entity, change, and encoding. Our implementation empowers users to conveniently create, compare, and modulate comprehensive graph visualizations with a wide range of styles. We showcase various examples to verify the expressiveness of Nuwa. Via an expert interview and the analysis on cognitive dimensions we evaluate the usability of Nuwa.

We present FliudPlaying, a novel dynamic level-based spatially adaptive simulation method that can handle highly dynamic fluid efficiently. To capture the subtle detail of the fluid surface, the high-resolution simulation is performed not only at the free surface but also at those regions with high vorticity levels and velocity difference levels. To minimize the density error, an online optimization scheme is used when increasing the resolution by particle splitting. We also proposed a neighbor-based splash enhancement to compensate for the loss of dynamic details. Compared with the high-resolution simulation baseline, our method can achieve over 3× speedups while consuming only less than 10% computational resources. Furthermore, our method can make up for the loss of high-frequency details caused by the spatial adaptation, and provide more realistic dynamics in particle-based fluid simulation.
Deep learning models for organ contouring in radiotherapy are poised for clinical usage, but currently, there exist few tools for automated quality assessment (QA) of the predicted contours. Using Bayesian models and ...

We present PREVIS, a visual analytics tool, enhancing machine learning performance analysis in engineering applications. The presented toolchain allows for a direct comparison of regression models. In addition, we provide a methodology to visualize the impact of regression errors on the underlying field of interest in the original domain, the part geometry, via exploiting standard interpolation methods. Further, we allow a real-time preview of user-driven parameter changes in the displacement field via visual interpolation. This allows for fast and accountable online change management. We demonstrate the effectiveness with an ex-ante optimization of an automotive engine hood.
Visual quality metrics describe the quality and efficiency of multidimensional data visualizations in order to guide data analysts during exploration tasks. Current metrics are usually based on empirical algorithms wh...

Gene co-expression provides crucial insights into biological functions, however, there is a lack of exploratory analysis tools for localized gene co-expression in large-scale datasets. We present GeneSurfer, an interactive interface designed to explore localized transcriptome-wide gene co-expression patterns in the 3D spatial domain. Key features of GeneSurfer include transcriptome-wide gene filtering and gene clustering based on spatial local co-expression within transcriptomically similar cells, multi-slice 3D rendering of average expression of gene clusters, and on-the-fly Gene Ontology term annotation of co-expressed gene sets. Additionally, GeneSurfer offers multiple linked views for investigating individual genes or gene co-expression in the spatial domain at each exploration stage. Demonstrating its utility with both spatially resolved transcriptomics and single-cell RNA sequencing data from the Allen Brain Cell Atlas, GeneSurfer effectively identifies and annotates localized transcriptome-wide co-expression, providing biological insights and facilitating hypothesis generation and validation.
