Existing video research incorporates the use of relevance feedback based on user-dependent interpretations to improve the retrieval results. In this paper, we segregate the process of relevance feedback into 2 distinct facets: (a) recall-directed feedback;and (b) precision-directed feedback. The recall-directed facet employs general features such as text and high level features (HLFs) to maximize efficiency and recall during feedback, making it very suitable for large corpuses. The precision-directed facet on the other hand uses many other multimodal features in an active learning environment for improved accuracy. Combined with a performance-based adaptive sampling strategy, this process continuously re-ranks a subset of instances as the user annotates. Experiments done using TRECVID 2006 dataset show that our approach is efficient and effective. Copyright 2007 ACM.

In this paper a novel direct clustering algorithm based on generalized information distance (GID) is put forward. Firstly, based on information theory, a basic concept of measure of diversity is given and an inequality about measure of diversity is proved. Based on this inequality, a concept of increment of diversity is discussed and a defined. Secondly, by analyzing distance measure, two new concepts of generalized information distance (GID) and improved generalized information distance (IGID) are proposed, and a new direct clustering algorithm based on GID and IGID is designed. Finally this algorithm is applied to soil fertility data processing, and compared with hierarchical clustering algorithm (HCA). The results of simulation application show that the algorithm presented here is feasible and effective. Because of simplicity of algorithm and robustness. It provides a new research approach for studies of pattern recognition theory.

An adaptive strategy based stable link selection algorithm is proposed in this paper, in which the stable neighbor metric and local movement metric are defined. On the basis, the stability probability of each link is computed adoptively to find the most stable link or route in a route discovery. The simulation results show that our algorithm can effectively adapt to the network conditions, and outperforms the longevity factor based algorithm as well as the residual lifetime based algorithm in selecting stable links.

Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology enables higher transmission capacity without additional frequency spectrum and is becoming a part of many wireless system standards. Sphere detection has been introduced in MIMO systems to achieve maximum likelihood (ML) or near-ML estimation with reduced complexity. This paper presents an application-specific instruction set processor (ASIP) implementation of if-best list sphere detector (LSD) using the transport triggered architecture (TTA). The implementation is based on using memory and heap data structure for symbol vector sorting. The design space is explored by presenting several variations of the implementation and comparing them with each other in terms of latency and hardware complexity. An early proposal for a parallelized architecture with a detection throughput of approximately 5.3 Mbps is presented.

The traditional English text chunking approach identifies phrases by using only one model and phrases with the same types of features. It has been shown that the limitations of using only one model are that: the use of the same types of features is not suitable for all phrases, and data sparseness may also result. In this paper, a divide-conquer strategy is proposed and applied in the identification of English phrases. And then, this strategy is rapid transplanted to Chinese text chunking. This strategy divides the task of chunking into several sub-tasks according to sensitive features of each phrase and identifies different phrases in parallel. Then, a two-stage decreasing conflict strategy is used to synthesize each sub-task's answer, where the main features are: one, each phrase uses its own sensitive features; two, avoidance of data sparseness. Through testing on public corpus (English) and Chinese Penn Treebank (Chinese), F score of English chunking achieves to 95.14% and that of Chinese chunking is 95.23%. These results are state of the art with the best results that have been reported..

In this paper,volume models are obtained from closed surface models by an accurate voxelization method which can handle the hidden cavities. This kind of 3D binary images is then converted to gray-level images by a fast Euclidean distance transform (EDT).Moment invariants (MIs) which are invariant shape descriptors under similarity transformations,are then computed based on the gray images. Applications in shape analysis area such as principal axis determination,skeleton and medial axis extraction,and shape retrieval can be carried out base on EDT and MIs.

Traditional RBAC model describes a static access control policy. As the development of network application, such as Web services, access control faces many new challenges, one of which is that access control policies need to protect not only static resources but also dynamic ones that are encapsulated in a service. In order to capture the flexibility of application, we specify a fine-grained control on individual users by introducing user attributes which are associated to user's role and permission. We take the service as an action that changes some of user's attributes so as to adjust users' permission at run. In order to represent and reason on the access control automatically, we use the description logics combined with prepositional dynamic logic as a logic framework to construct a knowledge base for the access control and action rules, and semantically explain how a user's permission can be changed at runtime.

Symbol detection with list sphere decoder (LSD) is an emerging technology targeted on multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) telecommunication systems. The LSD algorithm requires maintaining a list of candidate symbols with shortest Euclidean distances to the received symbol. For energy efficiency, memory-based list is preferred over registers with long list lengths. In this paper, two hardware units for alleviating processing of such lists are presented. The list is stored as a heap in the memory and the proposed list updating units are incorporated with application specific processors. With presented principles, the number of clock cycles per list insertion gets very close to the theoretical lower bound with heap data structure.

Due to the increasing software complexity, how to integrate the legacy data resources and systems is a big challenge for the enterprise. This paper makes full use of agent technologies to establish an agent grid intelligent platform for enterprise heterogeneous system integration. The agent grid intelligent platform adopts a hierarchical integration model and middleware to provide efficient integration capability for different application systems. Finally, this paper introduces the grid based city emergency interaction system to illustrate the AGrIP practical system integration.

We propose a new 3D image segmentation method based on prediction, block-matching and partial 3D constraint in this paper. The algorithm only needs to set a few key points in the first image. We use intensity information and block-matching to optimize the initial condition, and consider the 3D object's characteristics at the same time. By using the partial 3D constraints we can get the result of 2D and 3D smoothness. Experimental results validate its usefulness in 3D image segmentation.
