Selection and prioritization of software requirements represents an area of interest in Search-Based Software Engineering (SBSE) and its main focus is finding and selecting a set of requirements that may be part of a software release. This paper uses a systematic review to investigate which SBSE approaches have been proposed to address software requirement selection and prioritization problems. The search strategy identified 30 articles in this area and they were analyzed for 18 previously established quality criteria. The results of this systematic review show which aspects of the requirements selection and prioritization problems were addressed by researchers, the methods approaches and search techniques currently adopted to address these problems, and the strengths and weaknesses of each of these techniques. The review provides a map showing the gaps and trends in the field, which can be useful to guide further research. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Context: The technical debt (TD) concept describes a tradeoff between short-term and long-term goals in software development. While it is highly useful as a metaphor, it has utility beyond the facilitation of discussion, to inspire a useful set of methods and tools that support the identification, measurement, monitoring, management, and payment of TD. Objective: This study focuses on the identification of TD. We evaluate human elicitation of TD and compare it to automated identification. Method: We asked a development team to identify TD items in artifacts from a software project on which they were working. We provided the participants with a TD template and a short questionnaire. In addition, we also collected the output of three tools to automatically identify TD and compared it to the results of human elicitation. Results: There is little overlap between the TD reported by different developers, so aggregation, rather than consensus, is an appropriate way to combine TD reported by multiple developers. The tools used are especially useful for identifying defect debt but cannot help in identifying many other types of debt, so involving humans in the identification process is necessary. Conclusion: We have conducted a case study that focuses on the practical identification of TD, one area that could be facilitated by tools and techniques. It contributes to the TD landscape, which depicts an understanding of relationships between different types of debt and how they are best discovered. Copyright 2013 ACM.

We identified and organized a number of statements about technical debt (TD Folklore list) expressed by practitioners in online websites, blogs and published papers. We chose 14 statements and we evaluated them through two surveys (37 practitioners answered the questionnaires), ranking them by agreement and consensus. The statements most agreed with show that TD is an important factor in software project management and not simply another term for 'bad code'. This study will help the research community in identifying folklore that can be translated into research questions to be investigated, thus targeting attempts to provide a scientific basis for TD management. © 2013 IEEE.

information Mining projects are a special type of Software Engineering projects with the objective of extracting non-trivial knowledge from available data repositories. information mining projects share similar problems with Software Engineering projects. Most of these problems should be handled at the initial activities of the project. But there is no model to analyze and evaluate the project feasibility which could be used to predict the main project risks. In this context, the objective of this paper is to propose and validate an ad-hoc model that can be used at the beginning of an information Mining project in order to analyze its feasibility. Background:Cancers are complex diseases whose comprehensive characterization requires genome-scale molecular data at multiple levels from genetics to transcriptomics and clinical data. Using our recently published Anduril bioinformatics framework and novel computational approaches, such as dependency analysis, we identify key variables at miRNA, copy number variation, expression, methylation, and pathway levels in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) progression and drug resistance. Furthermore, we identify characteristics of clinically relevant subgroups, such as patients treated with temozolomide and patients with an EGFRvIII mutation, which is a constitutively active variant of ***:We identify several novel genomic regions and transcript profiles that may contribute to GBM progression and drug resistance. All results and Anduril scripts are available at http://***/camda/.Conclusions:Our results highlight the need for approaches that define context at several levels in order to identify genomic regions or transcript profiles playing key roles in cancer progression and drug resistance.

Description Logics based languages have emerged as the standard knowledge representation scheme for ontologies. Typically, an ontology formalizes a number of dependent and related concepts in a domain, encompassed as a terminology. As defining such terminologies manually is a complex, time consuming and error-prone task, there is great interest and even demands for methods that learn terminologies automatically. Learning a terminology in Descriptions Logics concerns to learn several related concepts. This process would greatly benefit of an ideal order to determine which concept should be learned before another concept. Arguably, such an order would yield rich and readable terminologies, as previously, and interrelated concepts formerly learned could be used to induce the description of further concepts. In this work, we contribute with a formal definition of the concept and terminology learning problems and from such definitions we devise an algorithm for finding an ordering through concept taxonomy discovery, that should be followed when learning several related concepts. We show through an experiment that by following the order detected by the algorithm, we are able to afford a more readable terminology than methods that do not conceive an ideal order or do not learn concepts in a dependent way.

Dynamic adaptation is the customization of a business process to make it applicable to a particular situation at any time of its life cycle. Adapting requires experience, and involves knowledge about various, internal and external, aspects of business. Thus, we argue for the application of adaptation rules, considering the context of a particular process instance. Furthermore, we state that a context-based adaptation environment should go beyond, and learn from decisions, as well as continuously identify new unforeseen situations (context definitions). The aim of this paper is to present a computational engine that infers the need to update situations and adaptation rules, suggesting changes to them. An application scenario is presented to discuss the usage of the proposal.

With the increased worldwide popularity of social networking services (SNSs), the leakage of a user's private information is becoming a serious problem. An increased number of users now have multiple accounts on various social networks and they tend to use each account to write different user experiments. Aggregating information from different accounts leads to the unintended leakage of personal information. Therefore, we argue that SNS users should be vigilant in protecting the relationship between multiple accounts. In this paper, we propose the use of Account Reachability, a measure of privacy risk which demonstrates the possibility of a stranger finding a user's private account based on information in their public account. In addition, we present ARChecker, a tool to calculate the value of account reachability. ARChecker also provides advice on how to modify the user's profiles and messages to decrease the privacy risk. By checking the privacy measure and modifying the profiles and messages of their SNS accounts, users can protect their multiple accounts from the risk of an unintended leakage of personal information. © 2013 ACM.
