Fortran compilers that provide support for Fortran's native parallel features often do so with a runtime library that depends on details of both the compiler implementation and the communication library, while others provide limited or no support at all. This paper introduces a new generalized interface that is both compiler- and runtime-library-agnostic, providing flexibility while fully supporting all of Fortran's parallel features. The Parallel Runtime Interface for Fortran (PRIF) was developed to be portable across shared- and distributed-memory systems, with varying operating systems, toolchains and architectures. It achieves this by defining a set of Fortran procedures corresponding to each of the parallel features defined in the Fortran standard that may be invoked by a Fortran compiler and implemented by a runtime library. PRIF aims to be used as the solution for LLVM Flang to provide parallel Fortran support. This paper also briefly describes our PRIF prototype implementation: Caffeine. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper provides an introduction to the CoArray Fortran Framework of Efficient Interfaces to Network Environments (Caffeine), a parallel runtime library built atop the GASNet-EX exascale networking library. Caffeine leverages several non-parallel Fortran features to write type-and rankagnostic interfaces and corresponding procedure definitions that support parallel Fortran 2018 features, including communication, collective operations, and related services. One major goal is to develop a runtime library that can eventually be considered for adoption by LLVM Flang, enabling that compiler to support the parallel features of Fortran. The paper describes the motivations behind Caffeine's design and implementation decisions, details the current state of Caffeine's development, and previews future work. We explain how the design and implementation offer benefits related to software sustainability by lowering the barrier to user contributions, reducing complexity through the use of Fortran 2018 C-interoperability features, and high performance through the use of a lightweight communication substrate. © 2022 IEEE.

Many domains require scalable algorithms that help to determine diagnoses efficiently and often within predefined time limits. Anytime diagnosis is able to determine solutions in such a way and thus is especially useful in real-time scenarios such as production scheduling, robot control, and communication networks management where diagnosis and corresponding reconfiguration capabilities play a major role. Anytime diagnosis in many cases comes along with a trade-off between diagnosis quality and the efficiency of diagnostic reasoning. In this paper we introduce and analyze FLEXDIAG which is an anytime direct diagnosis approach. We evaluate the algorithm with regard to performance and diagnosis quality using a configuration benchmark from the domain of feature models and an industrial configuration knowledge base from the automotive domain. Results show that FLEXDIAG helps to significantly increase the performance of direct diagnosis search with corresponding quality tradeoffs in terms of minimality and accuracy. Cyber-Physical Production systems (CPPSs) are highly configurable and versatile production systems that utilize diverse hardware components through control software. Managing control software variants in CPPS development is challenging as variation points in the software stem from multiple engineering disciplines. Furthermore, there is a lack of mechanisms to explicitly describe control software variants as part of the software. In this paper, we present an extension of the Variability for 4diac (V4rdiac) approach and investigate its usefulness in managing control software variants based on multidisciplinary variability in CPPS development and delta modeling. We extend the approach by considering its application engineering activities to produce client-specific control software variants. We also present a novel mechanism to visualize deltas in control software to reduce the effort of implementing and maintaining deltas. We apply V4rdiac in two case studies and conduct an additional user study with four participants from industry to evaluate its usefulness. The evaluation results confirm that the engineers were able to successfully manage the control software variants. The results also show that V4rdiac can be easily learned and increases industrial practitioners’ productivity in managing control software. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Context Agile software development (ASD) aims to deliver high-quality software. However, software quality often gets less attention due to focus on *** an evidence-based quality-aware ASD process that organizations can use to create a more quality-aware development process and improve software *** methodUsing design science research, we collaborated with four organizations applying ASD in different contexts. Involving a total of 35 practitioners, we designed company-specific evidence-based quality-aware ASD processes, which were validated through simulated scenarios, implemented, and evaluated by the practitioners. ResultsA general ASD process model, derived from the company-specific models, was created, which shows the specific activities, frequencies, roles, and development phases where evidence can be used to improve software quality. The new process model contributed towards improved bottleneck identification, release readiness, and quality issues prioritization. We also learned that companies must be mindful of the rules that determine the use of evidence. Conclusion Integrating the use of quality related evidence into the ASD process can make it quality-aware, supporting software quality management, and enabling timely reaction through fast feedback loops. The evidence-based quality-aware ASD process is applicable in any Scrum-like ASD process. Applicability in other forms of ASD, however, requires further research. © 2023, The Authors. The development of citizens' and organizations' entrepreneurial capacity is a key policy objective of any country. The information required for monitoring development of curricula and learning activities fostering entrepreneurship as a competence is obtained from different data sources in different information systems. The semantic interoperability between these systems with resources relevant to the development of entrepreneurship stimulates more productive sharing of information among all stakeholders. Building semantic interoperable systems, ensuring in this way a collaborative performance, is not without difficulties. This paper presents EntreCompOnto, an ontology based on the EntreComp framework that could support European citizens and organizations in attaining entrepreneurship competence. EntreCompOnto sets the ground for identifying the knowledge, skills and attitudes that comprise 'entrepreneurial mindset', the ultimate aim being to facilitate exchange among users of EntreComp's adaptation families and eventually to positively impact the mobility, employability and participation of citizens in society and the economy. © 2018 IEEE.

Model transformations are an important cornerstone of model-driven engineering, a discipline which facilitates the abstraction of relevant information of a system as models. The success of the final system mainly depends on the optimization of these models through model transformations. Currently, the application of transformations is realized either by following the apply-as-long-as-possible strategy or by the provision of explicit rule orchestrations. This implies two main limitations. First, the optimization objectives are implicitly hidden in the transformation rules and their orchestration. Second, manually finding the best orchestration for a particular scenario is a major challenge due to the high number of possible combinations. To overcome these limitations, we present a novel framework that builds on the non-intrusive integration of optimization and model transformation technologies. In particular, we formulate the transformation orchestration task as an optimization problem, which allows for the efficient exploration of the transformation space and explication of the transformation objectives. Our generic framework provides several search algorithms and guides the user in providing a proper search configuration. We present different instantiations of our framework to demonstrate its feasibility, applicability, and benefits using several case studies. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
