Blockchains are turning into decentralized computing platforms and are getting worldwide recognition for their unique advantages. There is an emerging trend beyond payments that blockchains could enable a new breed of decentralized applications, and serve as the foundation for Internet's security infrastructure. The immutable nature of the blockchain makes it a winner on security and transparency;it is nearly inconceivable for ledgers to be altered in a way not instantly clear to every single user involved. However, most blockchains fall short in privacy aspects, particularly in data protection. Garlic Routing and Onion Routing are two of major Privacy Enhancing Techniques (PETs) which are popular for anonymization and security. Garlic Routing is a methodology using by I2P Anonymous Network to hide the identity of sender and receiver of data packets by bundling multiple messages into a layered encryption structure. The Onion Routing attempts to provide lowlatency Internet-based connections that resist traffic analysis, deanonymization attack, eavesdropping, and other attacks both by outsiders (e.g. Internet routers) and insiders (Onion Routing servers themselves). As there are a few controversies over the rate of resistance of these two techniques to privacy attacks, we propose a PET-Enabled Sidechain (PETES) as a new privacy enhancing technique by integrating Garlic Routing and Onion Routing into a Garlic Onion Routing (GOR) framework suitable to the structure of blockchains. Metal rolling is a widespread and well-studied process, and many finite-element (FE) rolling simulations can be found in the scientific literature. However, these FE simulations are typically limited in their resolution of through-thickness variations. In this paper, we carefully assess the accuracy of a number of FE approaches, and find that at least 60 elements through-thickness are needed to properly resolve through-thickness variation; this is significantly more than is used elsewhere in the metal rolling literature. In doing so, we reveal an oscillatory stress pattern, which is not usually observed in simulations but which we can validate by comparison with recent analytical work, and which is completely deterministic, not arising from numerical noise or error. We discuss the physical basis of these oscillations and their implications for outcomes such as curvature in asymmetric rolled sheets. Accurate through-thickness variation of stress and strain will also have implications for modelling of microstructure evolution and damage.

Blockmodelling is an important technique for detecting un-derlying patterns in graphs. However, existing blockmod-elling algorithms do not provide the user with any explicit control to specify which patterns might be of interest. Fur-thermore, existing algorithms focus on finding standard com-munity structures in graphs, and are likely to overlook in-formative but more complex patterns, such as hierarchical or ring blockmodel structures. In this paper, we propose a generic constraint programming framework for blockmod-elling, which allows a user to specify and search for complex blockmodel patterns in graphs. Our proposed framework can be incorporated into existing iterative blockmodelling algorithms, operating as a hybrid optimization scheme that provides high exibility and expressiveness. We demonstrate the power of our framework for discovering complex pat-terns, via experiments over a range of synthetic and real data sets. © 2018 by SIAM.

Topic popularity prediction is an important task on social media, which aims at predicting the ongoing trends of topics according to logged historical text-based records. However, only limited existing approaches apply sentiment analysis to facilitate popularity prediction. Public sentiment is worth taking into consideration because the topics with strong sentiment tend to spread faster and broader on social media. In this paper, we propose a novel framework, SENTI2POP, to predict topic popularity utilizing sentiment information. We first adapt a state-of-art popularity quantification method to capture the topic popularity, and then design a novel tree-like network (Tree-Net) combining Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for sentiment analysis. In addition, we propose a sentiment-aware time series prediction approach based on Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average model (ARIMA) to predict topic popularity. We prove by experiments that SENTI2POP outperforms the existing popularity prediction models on a real-world Twitter dataset by reducing the prediction error. Experimental results also show that SENTI2POP could be applied to improve the accuracy of most non-sentiment popularity prediction models.

Prioritized process test: An alternative to current process testing strategies

Testing processes and workows in information and Internet of Things systems is a major part of the typical software testing effort. Consistent and efficient path-based test cases are desired to support these tests. Because certain parts of software system workows have a higher business priority than others, this fact has to be involved in the generation of test cases. In this paper, we propose a Prioritized Process Test (PPT), which is a model-based test case generation algorithm that represents an alternative to currently established algorithms that use directed graphs and test requirements to model the system under test. The PPT accepts a directed multigraph as a model to express priorities, and edge weights are used instead of test requirements. To determine the test-coverage level of test cases, a test-depth-level concept is *** compared the presented PPT with five alternatives (i.e., the Process Cycle Test, a naive reduction of test set created by the Process Cycle Test, Brute Force algorithm, Set-covering Based Solution and Matching-based Prefix Graph Solution) for edge coverage and edge-pair coverage. To assess the optimality of the path-based test cases produced by these strategies, we used fourteen metrics based on the properties of these test cases and 59 models that were created for three real-world systems. For all edge coverage, the PPT produced more optimal test cases than the alternatives in terms of the majority of the metrics. For edge-pair coverage, the PPT strategy yielded similar results to those of the alternatives. Thus, the PPT strategy is an applicable alternative, as it reects both the required test coverage level and the business priority in parallel. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Energy demand in most African countries is insufficient thereby hindering economic development. By leveraging renewable technologies, the control and management of renewable micro-grids requires a robust/reliable design that supports smart integration via Cloud for dynamic service delivery. Motivated by this concern, this paper developed smart green energy management system (SGEMS) for optimizing demand side management (DSM) in renewable micro-grids. The architecture employs solar photovoltaic (PV) to generate energy and meters user consumption pattern. SGEMS global model for solar PV metering platform is introduced including structured OpenStack Cloud application with active load-balancers, Trove/Hadoop Bigdata application program interface (API), OpenFlow firewall, and dynamic network scaling. These features manage user access with little computational overhead. An experimental demonstration of OpenStack/Amazon EC2 instance scenarios for transactional workload is briefly highlighted. The work discussed the usefulness of OpenStack engine as a distributed API middleware for SGEMS-energy application running on AWS EC2.

Formal methods (in a broad sense) have been around almost since the beginning of computer science. Nonetheless, there is a perception in the formal methods community that take-up by industry is low considering the potential benefits. We take a look at possible reasons and give candidate explanations for this effect. To address the issue, we propose a repository of industry-relevant example problems with an accompanying open data storage for experiment results in order to document, disseminate and compare exemplary solutions from formal model based methods. This would allow potential users from industry to better understand the available solutions and to more easily select and adopt a formal method that fits their needs. At the same time, it would foster the adoption of open data and good scientific practice in this research field. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2018.

Rapid advancements in synthetic biology and nucleic acid synthesis, in particular concerns about its intentional or accidental misuse, call for more sophisticated screening tools to identify genes of interest within short sequence fragments. One major gap in predicting genes of concern is the inadequacy of current tools and ontologies to describe the specific biological processes of pathogenic proteins. The objective of this work is to design software that sensitively assigns taxonomic classifications, functional annotations, and biological processes of interest to short nucleotide sequences of unknown origin (50bp-1,000bp). The overarching goal is to perform sensitive characterization of short sequences and highlight specific pathogenic biological processes of interest (BPoIs). The SeqScreen software executes these tasks in analytical workflows with Nextflow and outputs results in a tab-delimited report. Local and global alignments differentiate hits to taxonomically-related sequences from similar but unrelated sequences, and an ensemble approach leverages multiple tools and databases to assign a variety of functional terms to each query sequence. Final biological process assessments are made from the predicted functional annotations, which leverage information in pre-existing databases, as well as new custom biocurations. Machine learning models predict each biological process of interest on large protein databases before incorporation into the SeqScreen framework to streamline computational efficiency, ensure reproducible results, allow for version control, and facilitate the review of the automated predictions by expert biocurators. With an ever-increasing number of resources on the Web, different language resources such as newspapers, magazines, and articles have become available. This demands for an improved technique in the information retrieval to extirpate the communication barrier among languages. Search engines are the cornerstones for informational contents and the link between the two parties of publishing and retrieval of content. Moreover, the search for information is no longer narrowed to users of the native language of the original source. Most of the non-English users such as Arabic speakers are unable to express the terms in their own language. Also, the terminologies written in the native language of the source are acquired from the English language. This challenge drives users to use mixed terms (multilingual terms) to get better results, especially in the scientific domain. This paper attempts to address the problem of documents retrieval using multilingual queries. When users use mixed queries, the results of the multilingual documents will dominate the top of the retrieved documents rather than other relevant documents, and the scores of the mixed documents obtain extra weight values that are not really part of their actual weighting value. This paper proposes a novel method to improve the results of the retrieved documents by adjusting the score of multilingual documents. For experiments, we used a mixed test collection containing mixedlanguage documents (Arabic and English). The results showed that the proposed method led to an enhanced performance in documents retrieval from multilingual queries which made them relevant, effective and accurate thus proving that our approach is more reliable than other traditional approaches.

software Defined Networking (SDN) architecture satisfies the flexibility and scalability requirements of Internet of Things (IoT) network. A large amounts of IoT data is transmitted and exchanged through IoT network. However, many of services of IoT are sensitive to latency and bandwidth, so the network traffic model and measurement in IoT are different legacy networks. In this paper, we propose a robust network traffic modeling approach and use it to estimate network traffic in IoT. To obtain the measurement results with low overhead and high accuracy, we model the network traffic as liner function with noise. Then, we collect the statistics of coarse-grained traffic of flows and fine-grained traffic of links, and use the robust network traffic model to forecast the network traffic with the coarsegrained measurement of flows. In order to optimize the estimation results, we propose an optimization function to decrease the estimation errors. Since the optimization function is NP-hard problem, then we use a heuristic algorithm to obtain the optimal solution of the fine-grained measurement. Finally, we conduct some simulations to verify the proposed measurement scheme. Simulation results show that our approach is feasible and effective.
