As mobile computing is now becoming more and more popular, the security threats to mobile applications are also growing explosively. Mobile app flaws and security defects could open doors for hackers to break into them and access sensitive information. Most vulnerabilities should be addressed in the early stage of mobile software development. However, many software development professionals lack awareness of the importance of security vulnerability and the necessary security knowledge and skills at the development stage. The combination of the prevalence of mobile devices and the rapid growth of mobile threats has resulted in a shortage of secure software development professionals. Many schools offer mobile app development courses in computing curriculum; however, secure software development is not yet well represented in most schools' computing curriculum. This paper addresses the needs of authentic and active pedagogical learning materials for SSD and challenges of building Secure software Development (SSD) capacity through effective, engaging, and investigative approaches. In this paper, we present an innovative authentic and active SSD learning approach through a collection of transferrable learning modules with hands-on companion labs based on the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) recommendations. The preliminary feedback from students is positive. Students have gained hands-on real world SSD learning experiences with Android mobile platform and also greatly promoted self-efficacy and confidence in their mobile SSD learning.

By considering the Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT) schemes, this paper focuses on secure transmission model design in multiple-input-single-output (MISO) channels. In these channels, the channel state information is assumed to be perfect. Our objective is to maximize the worst-case secrecy rate with respect to both potential eavesdroppers and obvious eavesdroppers under the constraints of energy-harvesting and total transmission power. We present an optimization model to indirectly obtain maximum security rate in a single receiver system. Due to the high computational complexity of the solution process caused by the formulated non-convex optimization problem, we propose a novel indirect method to handle this issue. Then, a Semi-Definite Programming (SDP) relaxation method is used to approach the optimal solution. Moreover, we reveal the conditions for ensuring that the above semi-definite relaxation is compact. Simulation results demonstrate that the gained performance in our system is much better than those of the existing competing schemes.

Project Management is management processes that cover all the activities within a project. Its effectiveness is known throughout the information technology industry. However, the implementation of project management standards is still rarely seen, especially in higher learning institute. We intend to identify the application of project management standards leads to software project success in the higher learning institute. We conducted a survey questionnaire to collect our data. The respondents are from higher learning institute who involved in information technology field. As a conclusion, although part of the respondents does not use any standards, majority of the respondents agreed that activities within project management contribute to project success.

This paper proposes a novel configuration of six phase IM to drive from a three phase stacked multilevel inverter. Apart from greater fault tolerance compared to three phase, a six phase machine enables the use of low voltage devices for the inverter. Also the inverter used here is a three phase nine level stacked inverter which itself uses low voltage devices. Thus MOSFETs can be used for the inverter. The nine level inverter is formed by stacking 2 five level inverters each of which is developed by cascading an FC and a capacitor fed H-bridge. The inverter can be stacked further to obtain still higher number of voltage levels. This enables the use of batteries at the front end and still lower voltage devices which will significanly improve the efficiency. Hence this will find applications in electric vehicles because of the direct battery drive. Experiment is conducted on a 15 KW six phase IM by reconfiguring it as a three phase machine and driven by the three phase nine level stacked inverter using V/f control scheme. Detailed experimental results are provided to validate the concept. © 2017 IEEE.

The implementation of self-driving cars will change human lives. Such systems require huge computing power and big datasets. There exists an emulator generating the desired number of images of the vehicle movement easily. We explore the possibility of using obtained images from the emulator for training deep neural networks for prediction of steering angle. This approach allows car to move in automatic mode. We explore various architectures of convolutional neural networks in order to obtain good results with a minimum number of parameters.

Nowadays, the movement control is troublesome for the expanding traffic. The quick addition in vehicular excursions without relating growing in street space is achieving generous blockage in various parts. This makes trouble for the emergency vehicles such as ambulance, fire emergency and VIP vehicles to travel through the congested traffic. By analyzing different proposed systems, another arrangement can be actualized by making the traffic lights somewhat wise. To this issue, a framework utilizing computational intelligence is proposed to assign clear path for the emergency vehicles with the utilization of RF transponder and microcontroller. The significant part of this work is focused on reducing the inertness of the emergency vehicles with least interruption to customary traffic stream.

Education in software engineering has to both teach technical content such as databases and programming but also organisational skills such as team work and project management. While the former can be evaluated from a product perspective, the latter are usually embedded in a software engineering process and need to be assessed and adapted throughout their implementation. The in-action property of processes puts a strain on teachers since we cannot be present throughout the students’ work. To address this challenge we have adopted workshops to teach Scrum by building a Lego city in short sprints to focus on the methodological content. In this way we can be present throughout the process and coach the students. We have applied the exercise in six different courses, across five different educational programmes and observed more than 450 participating students. In this paper, we report on our experiences with this approach, based on quantitative data from the students and qualitative data from both students and teachers. We give recommendations for learning opportunities and best practices and discuss the limitations of these workshops in a classroom setting. We also report on how the students transferred their methodological knowledge to software development projects in an academic setting. © 2017

Monitoring the daily transportation modes of an individual provides useful information in many application domains, such as urban design, real-time journey recommendation, as well as providing location-based services. In existing systems, accelerometer and GPS are the dominantly used signal sources for transportation context monitoring which drain out the limited battery life of the wearable devices very quickly. To resolve the high energy consumption issue, in this paper, we present EnTrans, which enables transportation mode detection by using only the kinetic energy harvester as an energy-efficient signal source. The proposed idea is based on the intuition that the vibrations experienced by the passenger during traveling with different transportation modes are distinctive. Thus, voltage signal generated by the energy harvesting devices should contain sufficient features to distinguish different transportation modes. We evaluate our system using over 28 hours of data, which is collected by eight individuals using a practical energy harvesting prototype. The evaluation results demonstrate that EnTrans is able to achieve an overall accuracy over 92% in classifying five different modes while saving more than 34% of the system power compared to conventional accelerometer-based approaches. Service-based cloud applications are software systems that continuously evolve to satisfy new user requirements and technological changes. This kind of applications also require elasticity, scalability, and high availability, which means that deployment of new functionalities or architectural adaptations to fulfill service level agreements (SLAs) should be performed while the application is in execution. Dynamic architectural reconfiguration is essential to minimize system disruptions while new or modified services are being integrated into existing cloud applications. Thus, cloud applications should be developed following principles that support dynamic reconfiguration of services, and also tools to automate these reconfigurations at runtime are needed. This paper presents an extension of a model-driven method for dynamic and incremental architecture reconfiguration of cloud services that allows developers to specify new services as software increments, and the tool to generate the implementation code for the services integration logic and the deployment and architectural reconfiguration scripts specific to the cloud environment in which the service will be deployed (e.g., Microsoft Azure). We also report the results of a quasi-experiment that empirically validate our method. It was conducted to evaluate their perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and perceived intention to use. The results show that the participants perceive the method to be useful, and they also expressed their intention to use the method in the future. Although further experiments must be carried out to corroborate these results, the method has proven to be a promising architectural reconfiguration process for cloud applications in the context of agile and incremental development processes. Internet of things (IoT) aims to connect billions of devices to the Internet. These devices generate an enormous amount of traffic. A Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) aggregates the data generated from the body sensors deployed on the human body or inside it. Due to resource constraints of the deployed sensors, aggregated data is forwarded to a server at an edge node or a cloud for further processing and decision making. With the wide acceptance of IoT deployments, WBANs can also be integrated with IoT to provide a clear contextual environment for smart healthcare applications' users. software Defined Networks (SDN) is a new networking paradigm providing centralized control and programmability of the networks. These features of SDN open new vistas for WBAN and IoT applications. In this paper, a personal digital assistant (PDA) is configured as an SDN switch, and we emulate the SDN functionality with Mininet to verify that this approach can be used in WBANs with minimum deployment complexity and network overhead, while efficiently manage the connected devices and the connections between them.
