Cloud computing represents the promise of outsourcing of scientific computing such as matrix multiplication. However, this can introduce new vulnerabilities such as information leakage. Cloud server intentionally or unintentionally may reveal sensitive input matrices of the client as well as multiplication results to unauthorised entities. In this paper, we propose two protocols that use sparse matrices to prevent information leakage in outsourcing matrix multiplications to cloud computing without encryption. The protocols are considered lightweight compared to other comparable approaches. We also provide a running example to demonstrate how the protocols ensure no information leakage of client data.

Planning, controlling and coordinating search and rescue operations is complex and time is crucial for survivors who must be found quickly. The search planning phase is especially important when the location of the incident is unknown. We propose, implement, solve, and evaluate mathematical models for the multiple rectangular search area problem. The objective is to define optimal or near-optimal feasible search areas for the available search and rescue units that maximize the probability of success. We compare our new model to an existing model on problem instances of realistic size. Our results show that we are able to generate, in a reasonable time, near optimal operationally feasible plans for searches conducted in vast open spaces. In an operational context, this research can increase the chances of finding s urvivors. Ultimately, as our models get implemented in the Canadian Coast Guard search planning tool, this can translate into more lives being saved.

Impact of plot size and model selection on forest biomass estimation using airborne LiDAR: A case study of pine plantations in southern Spain

We explored the usefulness of LiDAR for modelling and mapping the stand biomass of two conifer species in southern Spain. We used three different plot sizes and two statistical approaches (i.e. stepwise selection and genetic algorithm selection) in combination with multiple linear regression models to estimate biomass. 43 predictor variables derived from discrete-return LiDAR data (4 pulses per m2) were used for estimating the forest biomass of Pinus sylvestris Linnaeus and Pinus nigra Arnold forests. Twelve circular plots - six for each species - and three different fixed-radius designs (i.e. 7, 15, and 30 m) were established within the range of the airborne LiDAR. The Bayesian information criterion and R2 were used to select the best models. As expected, the models that included the largest plots (30 m) yielded the highest R2 value (0.91) for Pinus sp. using genetic algorithm models. Considering P. sylvestris and P. nigra models separately, the genetic algorithm approach also yielded the highest R2 values for the 30-m plots (P. nigra: R2 = 0.99, P. sylvestris: R2 = 0.97). The results we obtained with two species and different plot sizes revealed that increasing the size of plots from 15 to 30 m had a low effect on modelling attempts.

The evolution of technologies has allowed that every day more and more games are available on our mobile devices. These games have evolved in many ways depending on their field of application. Thus, one of those kinds of games is pervasive games1(PG). Each one of those fields has its own features and targets, which is the reason why researchers have defined pervasive games in many different ways. This is comprehensible from a technical point of view because each research field needs to implement their own properties. In this paper, we present a general overview of the meaning of pervasive games in different areas in order to check and collect their particularities. We also give a conceptual relationship diagram and a general definition that considers the user's pervasive experience found in the results of game experience design. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.

The concepts of universality and general applicability of information networks as well as the issues of using networks in specific directions are considered in the article on the example of the convergence of transport infrastructure and information networks. An analysis of modern information networks has been carried out and the following three main directions have been identified: infrastructure as a service, platform as a service, software as a service. The basic principles of convergence of information networks and transport infrastructure are presented on the example of a transport and logistics system. The issues of use of the modern information technologies for continuous monitoring of transport infrastructure are considered.

The emerging blockchain technology supports decentralized computing paradigm shift and is a rapidly approaching phenomenon. While blockchain is thought primarily as the basis of Bitcoin, its application has grown far beyond cryptocurrencies due to the introduction of smart contracts. Smart contracts are self-enforcing pieces of software, which reside and run over a hosting blockchain. Using blockchain-based smart contracts for secure and transparent management to govern interactions (authentication, connection, and transaction) in Internet-enabled environments, mostly IoT, is a niche area of research and practice. However, writing trustworthy and safe smart contracts can be tremendously challenging because of the complicated semantics of underlying domain-specific languages and its testability. There have been high-profile incidents that indicate blockchain smart contracts could contain various code-security vulnerabilities, instigating financial harms. When it involves security of smart contracts, developers embracing the ability to write the contracts should be capable of testing their code, for diagnosing security vulnerabilities, before deploying them to the immutable environments on blockchains. However, there are only a handful of security testing tools for smart contracts. This implies that the existing research on automatic smart contracts security testing is not adequate and remains in a very stage of infancy. With a specific goal to more readily realize the application of blockchain smart contracts in security and privacy, we should first understand their vulnerabilities before widespread implementation. Accordingly, the goal of this paper is to carry out a far-reaching experimental assessment of current static smart contracts security testing tools, for the most widely used blockchain, the Ethereum and its domain-specific programming language, Solidity, to provide the first body of knowledge for creating more secure blockchain-based software. The relationship between the weight of a single genes and the connection between the genes had been studied. Chemistry and physical sciences have proved the attraction between molecules. Molecules are attracted to each other by bond. This paper is presented to disclose the relationship between weight and connectivity of nodes with biased random walk. An equation of biased random walk which named as significant directed random walk is formed to enhance the connectivity of nodes in directed graph via weigh. To be completely biased to the random walk, references data is implement as directed graph. Weight of genes will be used as one of the parameter in the formula. While the adjacency matrix is further enhanced by Warshall's algorithm to increases the accessibility of nodes via vector. The evolution of random walk is disclosed in this paper as well. Significant directed random walk will be used to prove the importance of weight in this paper. Comparison of the result between biased random walk is presented to prove the enhancement of random walk.

While the mobile applications are increasing dramatically, the mobile security threat landscape is also growing explosively. The malicious malware may attack vulnerable mobile apps to get personal or enterprise confidential data anywhere and anytime. Most vulnerabilities should be addressed and fixed in the early stage of mobile software development. However, many development professionals lack the awareness of the importance of security vulnerability and the necessary secure knowledge and skills at the development stage. Also, secure software development is still a relatively weak area and is not well represented in most schools' computing curriculum. This poster addresses the needs and challenges of the lack of pedagogical materials and real world learning environment in Secure Mobile software Development (SMSD) through effective, engaging, and investigative authentic learning approaches.

A typical cyber-physical system (CPS) refers to a system that features a tight integration of computation, networking, and physical elements for interactions between cyber and physical spaces. The Internet of Things (IoT) is considered to be the networking infrastructure of CPS. Applications of CPS cover numerous smart-world research areas that our daily life depends upon, including smart transportation, smart electrical power grid, smart cities, smart medical systems, smart manufacturing systems, and others. While major research on improving the efficiency and reliability of CPS by using advanced information and communication technologies has been conducted, the risks of cyberspace security and privacy breaches in CPS need to be seriously investigated before a massive deployment of CPS technologies can or should be realized.

Context: Tangled commits are changes to software that address multiple concerns at once. For researchers interested in bugs, tangled commits mean that they actually study not only bugs, but also other concerns irrelevant for the study of bugs. Objective: We want to improve our understanding of the prevalence of tangling and the types of changes that are tangled within bug fixing commits. Methods: We use a crowd sourcing approach for manual labeling to validate which changes contribute to bug fixes for each line in bug fixing commits. Each line is labeled by four participants. If at least three participants agree on the same label, we have consensus. Results: We estimate that between 17% and 32% of all changes in bug fixing commits modify the source code to fix the underlying problem. However, when we only consider changes to the production code files this ratio increases to 66% to 87%. We find that about 11% of lines are hard to label leading to active disagreements between participants. Due to confirmed tangling and the uncertainty in our data, we estimate that 3% to 47% of data is noisy without manual untangling, depending on the use case. Conclusion: Tangled commits have a high prevalence in bug fixes and can lead to a large amount of noise in the data. Prior research indicates that this noise may alter results. As researchers, we should be skeptics and assume that unvalidated data is likely very noisy, until proven otherwise. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.
