Human-machine interfaces are constantly evolving. Within this group, the interfaces based on natural gestures of users allow converting these movements into commands for a computer system without contacting any surface. This paper describes the architectural model of a system that addresses these interfaces to control home automation systems. An armband for gestural capture called MYO® is selected in this case. This device combines the measurement of electrical activity produced by the movement of forearm and hand muscles in order to detect the hand gesture, but it is also able to capture the orientation and rotation of the movement. Finally, a study is performed of its application. © 2015 IEEE.

With the rapid growth of video data, video summarization is a promising approach to shorten a lengthy video into a compact version. Although supervised summarization approaches have achieved state-of-the-art performance, they require frame-level annotated labels. Such an annotation process is time-consuming and tedious. In this article, we propose a novel deep summarization framework named Deep Semantic and Attentive Network for Video Summarization (DSAVS) that can select the most semantically representative summary by minimizing the distance between video representation and text representation without any frame-level labels. Another challenge associated with video summarization tasks mainly originates from the difficulty of considering temporal information over a long time. Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) performs well for temporal dependencies modeling but does not work well with long video clips. Therefore, we introduce a self-attention mechanism into our summarization framework to capture the long-range temporal dependencies among the frames. Extensive experiments on two popular benchmark datasets, i.e., SumMe and TVSum, show that our proposed framework outperforms other state-of-the-art unsupervised approaches and even most supervised methods. © 2022 Association for Computing Machinery.

Team software Process is an integrated framework that guides development teams in producing highquality software-intensive systems. This paper analyzes the effects of TSPi training and the improvements achieved by 44 teams, comprising fourth-year students on the software engineering degree programme, corresponding to two academic years. This study shows the benefits of using defined models such as TSPi to improve the students' skills and knowledge. The metrics of size and effort estimation, defects, productivity and costs are collected to measure the improvements through two development cycles. © 2008 IEEE.

The growing field of urban monitoring has increasingly recognized the potential of utilizing autonomous technologies,particularly in drone *** deployment of intelligent drone swarms offers promising solutions for enhancing the efficiency and scope of urban condition *** this context,this paper introduces an innovative algorithm designed to navigate a swarm of drones through urban landscapes for monitoring *** primary challenge addressed by the algorithm is coordinating drone movements from one location to another while circumventing obstacles,such as *** algorithm incorporates three key components to optimize the obstacle detection,navigation,and energy efficiency within a drone ***,the algorithm utilizes a method to calculate the position of a virtual leader,acting as a navigational beacon to influence the overall direction of the ***,the algorithm identifies observers within the swarm based on the current *** further refine obstacle avoidance,the third component involves the calculation of angular velocity using fuzzy *** approach considers the proximity of detected obstacles through operational rangefinders and the target’s location,allowing for a nuanced and adaptable computation of angular *** integration of fuzzy logic enables the drone swarm to adapt to diverse urban conditions dynamically,ensuring practical obstacle *** proposed algorithm demonstrates enhanced performance in the obstacle detection and navigation accuracy through comprehensive *** results suggest that the intelligent obstacle avoidance algorithm holds promise for the safe and efficient deployment of autonomous mobile drones in urban monitoring applications.

One of the challenging problems with evolutionary computing algorithms is to maintain the balance between exploration and exploitation capability in order to search global optima.A novel convergence track based adaptive differential evolution(CTbADE)algorithm is presented in this research *** crossover rate and mutation probability parameters in a differential evolution algorithm have a significant role in searching global optima.A more diverse population improves the global searching capability and helps to escape from the local optima *** the convergence path over time helps enhance the searching speed of a differential evolution algorithm for varying *** adaptive powerful parameter-controlled sequences utilized learning period-based memory and following convergence track over time are introduced in this *** proposed algorithm will be helpful in maintaining the equilibrium between an algorithm’s exploration and exploitation capability.A comprehensive test suite of standard benchmark problems with different natures,i.e.,unimodal/multimodal and separable/non-separable,was used to test the convergence power of the proposed CTbADE *** results show the significant performance of the CTbADE algorithm in terms of average fitness,solution quality,and convergence speed when compared with standard differential evolution algorithms and a few other commonly used state-of-the-art algorithms,such as jDE,CoDE,and EPSDE *** algorithm will prove to be a significant addition to the literature in order to solve real time problems and to optimize computationalmodels with a high number of parameters to adjust during the problem-solving process.

In the present paper, a comprehensive review was performed on the application of technology acceptance models (TAM) in the healthcare sector. The important post-2019 published papers were searched and extracted by the Google Scholar search engine and important papers were taken into consideration for further analysis related to the use of recently utilized models on the final results of TAM based on different case studies. Although TAM has shown to have an outstanding role in predicting clinician acceptance and health information technology (IT) usage, there is still a need for improvement in cases of standardization, further relationship testing, better data reporting, and the exploration of new variables. In this regard, one can prioritize identifying clinicians' specific beliefs about health IT, enhancing the applicability of TAM in healthcare by evaluating contextual factors, barriers, facilitators, and social norms impacting IT adoption. In addition, based on the classification of recent studies into general variables and results, usefulness, ease of use, trust, and privacy concerns were determined as important factors in patients' acceptance of technology in healthcare services, and related recommendations were provided in this work. TAM-based models offer valuable insights into the adoption and acceptance of healthcare technologies and researchers and healthcare organizations should be mindful of their limitations and consider future research directions to enhance their applicability in an ever-evolving healthcare landscape. © 2024 Interfaces and Human computer Interaction. Design of a ML-based trust prediction model using intelligent TrustBoxes in challenged networks

Challenged networks (CNs) contain resource-constrained nodes deployed in regions where human intervention is difficult. Opportunistic networks (OppNets) are CNs with no predefined source-to-destination paths. Due to their inherent properties, CNs and OppNets are highly susceptible to black-hole (BH) attacks, resulting in degraded packet-delivery ratio. In this work, an ML-based trust prediction model (MLTPM) is proposed to identify potential BH nodes in OppNets. MLTPM uses a novel function to calculate the total-trust-value (TTV) of each node. Intelligent TrustBoxes are introduced in the network to identify possible BH nodes, using TTV, along with five more node-behaviour features. TrustBoxes reduce the computational overhead of the resource-constrained nodes. Three simulated scenarios are compared - no detection, non-ML-based detection, and MLTPM, each using epidemic, prophet, and spray-and-wait routing protocols. MLTPM performs best with spray-and-wait, exhibiting about 25.21% and 80% mean improvement in delivery-ratio and dropped-message numbers respectively, compared to non-ML-based detection. An overall 12.62% improvement in delivery-ratio and 26.7% improvement in dropped messages is observed using MLTPM, compared to the above-mentioned scenarios. © 2024 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Infectious disease threats to individual and public health are numerous, varied and frequently unexpected. Artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies, which are already supporting human decision making in economics, medicine and social science, have the potential to transform the scope and power of infectious disease epidemiology. Here we consider the application to infectious disease modelling of AI systems that combine machine learning, computational statistics, information retrieval and data science. We first outline how recent advances in AI can accelerate breakthroughs in answering key epidemiological questions and we discuss specific AI methods that can be applied to routinely collected infectious disease surveillance data. Second, we elaborate on the social context of AI for infectious disease epidemiology, including issues such as explainability, safety, accountability and ethics. Finally, we summarize some limitations of AI applications in this field and provide recommendations for how infectious disease epidemiology can harness most effectively current and future developments in AI. © Springer Nature Limited 2025.

Expression detection plays a vital role to determine the patient’s condition in healthcare *** helps the monitoring teams to respond swiftly in case of *** to the lack of suitable methods,results are often compromised in an unconstrained environment because of pose,scale,occlusion and illumination variations in the image of the face of the patient.A novel patch-based multiple local binary patterns(LBP)feature extraction technique is proposed for analyzing human behavior using facial expression *** consists of three-patch[TPLBP]and four-patch LBPs[FPLBP]based feature engineering *** representation is encoded from local patch statistics using these *** and FPLBP capture information that is encoded to find likenesses between adjacent patches of pixels by using short bit strings contrary to pixel-based *** images are transformed into the frequency domain using a discrete cosine transform(DCT).Most discriminant features extracted from coded DCT images are combined to generate a feature *** vector machine(SVM),k-nearest neighbor(KNN),and Naïve Bayes(NB)are used for the classification of facial expressions using selected *** experimentation is performed to analyze human behavior by considering standard extended Cohn Kanade(CK+)and Oulu–CASIA *** demonstrate that the proposed methodology outperforms the other techniques used for comparison.
