ITU-R categorized Nigeria into four rain regions (i.e., M, N, P, and Q) depending on the atmospheric conditions. Previous works that have conducted rain and attenuation modeling and simulations have assumed similar signal propagation behavior and parameters within locations categorized under the same region. This paper aims to explore these assumptions by conducting an extensive radio propagation simulations of point-to-point microwave links with a clear line-of-sight in order to estimate the total path loss (attenuation), excess path loss, and flat fade margins for each of the locations within the M-regions, i.e., Kano, Sokoto, and Adamawa. Results obtained showed that in all the locations, the loss monotonically increases with distance, with Sokoto having the highest level of signal losses and fading, while, Adamawa has the lowest. The deviation for both total loss, excess loss, and flat fading margin was found to be between 15 dB across the region. © 2023 IEEE.

Signal propagation in a particular region differs from another due to differences in atmospheric, climatic and environmental properties, distinct terrain and clutter features. Adequate analysis is essential to understand the radio propagation behavior in a particular region. The ITU-R designated four rain regions, M, N, P, and Q, for Nigeria representing the rain rate distribution and also provided further classifications based on ground conductivity, among other salient parameters. Based on these classifications, this paper utilized the EDX Signal Pro software® to model and simulate a typical Point-to-Point (P2P), Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) link scenarios for 5G networks. The objective was to estimate and compare the total loss, excess loss, and flat fade margins for each rain region in Nigeria. Results obtained from the comparison showed that signals propagating in region N experience the highest level of losses and fading, while, region Q has the least losses and fading. © 2023 IEEE.

A model for evaluating the availability of a fault-tolerant cluster with a constraint on the maximum query service time is proposed. Node recovery in the cluster involves replacing the entire computational node with the latest backup results before the failure. Information update after the backup is achieved through the replication of this information from the working nodes of the cluster. The purpose of the article is to assess the reliability of the cluster and its readiness to timely service requests critical to the waiting time. Restoring up-to-date data in a cluster node after previously entering the data saved during backup into it requires the use of resources of the node in which the data is being restored and the node containing up-to-date data. The specified pair of nodes is excluded from the request servicing process, which reduces the likelihood of timely maintenance. Information recovery in case of failures of all nodes containing replicas of up-to-date data requires more time compared to replication from the memory of a functioning node.

In recent years, support vector machine has become one of the most important classification techniques in pattern recognition, machine learning, and data mining due to its superior classification effect and solid theoretical base. However, its training time will increase dramatically as the number of samples increases, and training will become more sophisticated when dealing with problems involving multiple classifications. A quick training data reduction approach MOIS appropriate for multi-classification tasks is presented as a solution for the aforementioned issues. While eliminating redundant training samples, the boundary samples that play a vital role are chosen in order to considerably reduce training data and the problem of unequal distribution between categories. The experimental results demonstrate that MOIS may maintain or even improve the classification performance of support vector machines while substantially enhancing training efficiency. On the Opt digit dataset, the suggested method improves classification accuracy from 98.94% to 99.05%, while training time is reduced to 15% of the original;in HCL2000, the proposed method improves classification accuracy from 98.94% to 99.05%. When the accuracy rate is marginally increased (from 99.29% to 99.30%) on the first 100 categories dataset, the training time is dramatically reduced to less than 6% of the original. Recently, smart cities have become more and more popular as a way to enhance society and the standard of living for its people. These are the results of the increased social and economic prospects that the advancement of information and communication technology (ICT) has brought about. But there are certain issues with our presumptions about privacy and security. The usage of cellphones and other technologies has already enhanced people’s engagement and sense of connection. Gadgets, smart energy meters, and security appliances are commonplace these days. The Internet of Things will soon be fully connected to homes, public spaces, healthcare systems, and other social institutions. In this work, we improve the security performance of communication networks in smart cities by implementing a novel framework and scheme to guarantee strong data secrecy and authentication. The smart city system can set up shared session key procedures and mutual authentication to secure a two-way communication channel between the control center and smart meters. Our comprehensive simulation was used to test and evaluate the security performance of the smart city communication network both with and without our suggested technique. Throughput, latency, load, and traffic received packets per second were all measured. The resources available in our suggested solution were further limited by the fact that we used a network intrusion detection system (NIDS) and a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack to evaluate and validate the security criteria. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This study explores the integration of the AI-powered adaptive learning system within the flipped classroom model and discusses programming education. The increasing demand for the acquisition of programming skills in the digital era generates the development of innovative pedagogical approaches to help students overcome the difficulties in mastering programming concepts. The study investigates how AI-based adaptive feedback influences student engagement, motivation, and learning outcomes. This study was conducted for 13 weeks, with two groups of undergraduate students. In one of the groups, tshe traditional flipped classroom model was applied, while in the other group, AI-driven adaptive learning tools were introduced. In this research methodology, a mixed-methods approach was adopted, integrating quantitative analyses with qualitative data. These showed that the experimental group demonstrated significant improvements in learning results and motivation, thereby realiszing the value of real-time, personalized feedback provided through the AI system. The qualitative findings revealed that with the AI system, there was an increase in student autonomy;thus, there is increased responsibility among students to collaborate in in-class participation, which helps enhance a more dynamic and cooperative learning environment. On the whole, these findings reveal important implications of the integration of AI into flipped classrooms, while at the same time, they reveal how to make the modernization of programming education achieve a better overall experience in student learning. © 2025 The Authors

The article proposes models of the structural reliability of a multipath routing network with the possibility of its reconfiguration when switching path segments. The models are focused on optimizing the placement of segment switching nodes, aimed at achieving maximum network performance with the option of connecting request sources to the available communication paths with servers. The study considers the options for connecting each source of requests with one of the paths or with all paths for connecting to servers. The paper shows the existence of an optimal placement of path switching nodes, in which the maximum reliability of the system is achieved.

Data compression is a trending field that is used in data storage and data transmission systems. Lossy compression means that data cannot be completely retrieved while in lossless compression the compressed data must be reconstructed exactly. Lossless data compression is used in compressing binary files, telemetry data and high-fidelity medical and scientific images where details are crucial. There is no generic compression algorithm that gives best compression ratio on all data pattern. In this paper, we propose a hybrid lossless hardware architecture that compresses most of data patterns such as repeated data, Gaussian distribution data and images. A profiling-before-compressing and then choosing the right compression hardware is proposed. The proposed design is a highly parallelized architecture that can compress/decompress 64 bytes/cycle with minor overhead. Moreover, it provides high compression ratio on small block sizes as well as large ones.

The article explores the possibility of improving the reliability of a network with multipath routing. A feature of the proposed study is the analysis of the influence of the placement of switching nodes that switch path segments on the probability of network connectivity with servers of the same type and heterogeneous in functionality. The purpose of the article is to increase the reliability of the network, taking into account the influence of the placement of communication nodes that implement the switching of route segments during reconfiguration, on the connectivity of the network with servers that are homogeneous and heterogeneous in functionality. The research involves the construction of a structural reliability model that takes into account the possibility of failures of both communication nodes and the links between them. The reliability model is built taking into account the availability of request sources with full and non-full access connections to the set of network paths.

Serious Games encompasses a wide range of goals including social awareness, public health initiatives, marketing, communications, industry, and so on but their primary concern is Education and training. These games intend to teach subject to players more than just emphasizing players' amusement and entertainment. The primary objective is to teach and train players in a playful environment. Games are too often developed in an ad-hoc manner while overlooking the use of pedagogical aspects and active learning principles. In this paper, we aim to address this issue by designing a serious game design model using Problem-based learning pedagogical aspects to assist the serious game designer. For this purpose, we mapped the problem-based learning principles with the game design factors and proposed a game design model based on 13 identified factors that are Goal, Scenario Exposition, autonomous, Control, Immersion, Challenge, Stimulus, Collaboration, Feedback, Authentic Learning, and Assessment. Followed by that, two experimental studies were conducted. First study was conducted to measure the impact of problem-based pedagogical game design factors on the learning outcome using an open source game that was customized based on the proposed model. The second study was conducted to check the impact of Collaboration and feedback on learning outcome. The results of the study reveal (1) problem based pedagogical mapped game design factors have a positive impact on the learning outcome of students and (2) procedural feedback to be the contributing factor in enhancing student performance.
