Modern programming languages, such as Java, use exception-handling mechanisms to guarantee the robustness of software systems. Although important, the quality of exception code is usually poor and neglected by developers. Indiscriminate robustness changes (e.g., the addition of empty catch blocks) can indicate design decisions that negatively impact the internal quality of software systems. As it is known in the literature, multiple occurrences of poor code structures, namely code smells, are strong indicators of design problems. Still, existing studies focus mainly on the correlation of maintainability smells with design problems. However, using only these smells may not be enough since developers need more context (e.g., system domain) to identify the problems in certain scenarios. Moreover, these studies do not explore how changes in the exceptional code of the methods combined with maintainability smells can give complementary evidence of design problems. By covering both regular and exception codes, the developer can have more context about the system and find complementary code smells that reinforce the presence of design problems. This work aims to leverage the identification of design problems by tracking poor robustness changes combined with maintainability smells. We investigated the correlation between robustness changes and maintainability smells on the commit history of more than 160k methods from different releases of 10 open-source software systems. We observed that maintainability smells can be worsened or even introduced when robustness changes are performed. This scenario mainly happened for the smells Feature Envy, Long Method, and Dispersed Coupling. We also analyzed the co-occurrence between robustness and maintainability smells. We identified that the empty catch block and catch throwable robustness smells were the ones that co-occurred the most with maintainability smells related to the Concern Overload and Misplaced Concern design problems. Imagined speech production with electrocorticography (ECoG) plays a crucial role in brain-computer interface system. A challenging issue is the great variation underlying the frequency bands of the ECoG signals’ encode information, which makes current methods difficult to generate imagined speech with stable quality among different persons. To this end, we propose a robust model to generate high-quality imagined speech from ECoG. A frequency enhancement branch is first designed to adaptively modulate the frequency information, whose product is fed into the following multi-scale channel attention module for robust feature extraction and fusion. By incorporating both the mel-spectrum and audio as training constraints, a multi-constraint decoder branch is finally constructed for imagined speech production. The performance of our model is evaluated on a high-quality dateset, i.e, Single Word Production Dutch-iBIDS. It yields Pearson correlation scores that are all above 0.8, and the standard deviationsare are all below 0.2 in different volunteers. Experimental results demonstrate that our model is effective and robust for ECoG based imagined speech production, and has advantages over peer methods.

This paper addresses the challenge of enhancing the quality of medical data interpretation, specifically using color microscopic medical images for effective visualization and further analysis. The method employed involves increasing contrast by adjusting the brightness intensity values within the Lab color model, which also considers the reference white point for horizontal light. To determine the parameters for the contrasting procedure, two strategies for selecting gamma correction of the input image are explored, based on the dynamics of the resulting image quality for various no-reference quality metrics. By analyzing these dynamics, the choice of correction conditions for the contrasting procedure can be justified, rather than relying on static metrics. The paper investigates the application of these proposed strategies on different types of images, presents a formal generalization of the strategies for selecting correction parameters, and offers practical recommendations for their use.

The article is devoted to the development of means for recognition of the emotions of the speaker, based on the neural network analysis of fixed fragments of the voice signal. The possibility of improving recognition tools through the use of a convolutional neural network of the GoogLeNet type is shown. The expediency of training the network on the examples of the TESS database is determined. A procedure for representing a voice signal in the form of a square grayscale image has been developed. Based on the use of the specified database, the modification of the GoogLeNet network was carried out. The architecture and software implementation of the recognition module have been developed. With the help of computer experiments, it has been established that after 150 epochs of training on a fairly limited training sample, the modified GoogLeNet makes it possible to achieve an accuracy of recognition of the speaker's emotions of approximately 0.97 on test examples. The obtained accuracy is comparable to the accuracy of the best modern systems of this purpose and confirms the promise of using neural network models like GoogLeNet for emotion recognition based on voice signal analysis. The need for further research aimed at reducing the resource intensity of the neural network model is shown. © 2022 IEEE.

Traditional data collection, storage and processing of Electronic Health Records (EHR) utilize centralized techniques that pose several risks of single point of failure and lean the systems to a number of internal and external data breaches that compromise their reliability and availability. Blockchain is an emerging distributed technology that can solve these issues due to its immutability and architectural nature that prevent records manipulation or alterations. In this paper, we discuss the progress and opportunities of remote patient monitoring using futuristic blockchain technologies and its two primary frameworks: Ethereum and Hyperledger Fabric. We also discuss the possible blockchain use cases in software engineering for systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable application development. The study extends by introducing a system architecture for EHR data management using Ethereum as a model. We discuss the challenges and limitations along with the initial evaluation results of the proposed system and draw future research directions in this promising area. © 2022, CC BY.

Innovative educational technology have made it possible to communicate with children who have special needs (SEN) in new ways. Artificial intelligence (A.I.)-based approaches have been among the most effective during the past ten years. The efficient application of artificial intelligence tools is seen as a means of improving SEN students' quality of life. As a result, the establishment of systems for both diagnosis and intervention calls for the adoption of A.I. techniques. Today, people from all socioeconomic backgrounds and walks of life concur on the value of education. Everyone needs to have a top-notch education in order to advance and succeed in today's society of information. It is now feasible to communicate with children with special needs (SEN) in new ways thanks to innovative educational technology. In the past ten years, artificial intelligence (A.I.)-based strategies have been among the most successful. The effective use of artificial intelligence tools is viewed as a way to enhance the quality of life for SEN students. As a result, the use of A.I. techniques is necessary for the creation of systems for both diagnosis and intervention. Today, people from all socioeconomic levels and walks of life agree that education is important. To advance and be successful in today's information culture, everyone needs to have a top-notch education. Then, it will display the statement that goes with that specific term. The learner will then get it in both text and audio versions after that. This makes it simple to assist any student with a disability in having good communication in a foreign language.

In the context of addressing the problem of people who do not undergo a diagnosis of heart failure due to pulmonary conditions on time, a solution to this problem would allow early preventive detection to avoid the development of severe disease efficiently. Our approach employs the use of medical data retrieved from the user to determine and predict whether there is a likelihood of a potential condition. To solve this problem, according to a users medical measurement history, a deep learning model can be implemented to determine a preventive diagnosis or otherwise to follow up on an already detected condition. By posing the problem as a classification task, it can be taken advantage of a deep learning model focused on heart failure or pulmonary conditions to make a preliminary diagnosis and determine if there are signs of any symptomatology.

An algorithm for solving the problem of scheduling meetings in the process of working on a project is proposed in the paper. The problem of project managers meetings with working groups is considered under certain restrictions., the possibility of a simultaneous meeting of the project manager with one or several project groups is considered. The proposed procedure for finding the permanent allows to build all possible combinations of the meeting schedule at a given time. Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing medical practice, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and healthcare delivery. However, its adaptation in medical settings still faces significant challenges, related to data availability and privacy constraints. Synthetic data has emerged as a promising solution to mitigate these issues, addressing data scarcity while preserving privacy. Recently, Latent Diffusion Models have emerged as a powerful tool for generating high-quality synthetic data. Meanwhile, the integration of different modalities has gained interest, emphasizing the need of models capable of handle multimodal medical data. Existing approaches struggle to integrate complementary information and lack the ability to generate modalities simultaneously. To address this challenge, we present MedCoDi-M, a 6.77-billion-parameter model, designed for multimodal medical data generation, that, following Foundation Model paradigm, exploits contrastive learning and large quantity of data to build a shared latent space which capture the relationships between different data modalities. Further, we introduce the Multi-Prompt training technique, which significantly boosts MedCoDi-M’s generation under different settings. We extensively validate MedCoDi-M: first we benchmark it against five competitors on the MIMIC-CXR dataset, a state-of-the-art dataset for Chest X-ray and radiological report generation. Secondly, we perform a Visual Turing Test with expert radiologists to assess the realism and clinical relevance of the generated data, ensuring alignment with real-world scenarios. Finally, we assess the utility of MedCoDi-M in addressing key challenges in the medical field, such as anonymization, data scarcity and imbalance learning. The proliferation of mobile devices that support the acceleration of data services(especially smartphones)has resulted in a dramatic increase in mobile traffic. Mobile data also increased exponentially, already exceeding the throughput of the backhaul. To improve spectrum utilization and increase mobile network traffic, in combination with content caching, we study the cooperation between primary and secondary networks via content caching. We consider that the secondary base station assists the primary user by pre-caching some popular primary ***, the secondary base station can obtain more licensed bandwidth to serve its own user. We mainly focus on the time delay from the backhaul link to the secondary base station. First, in terms of the content caching and the transmission strategies, we provide a cooperation scheme to maximize the secondary user’s effective data transmission rates under the constraint of the primary users target rate. Then, we investigate the impact of the caching allocation and prove that the formulated problem is a concave problem with regard to the caching capacity allocation for any given power allocation. Furthermore, we obtain the joint caching and power allocation by an effective bisection search algorithm. Finally, our results show that the content caching cooperation scheme can achieve significant performance gain for the primary and secondary systems over the traditional two-hop relay cooperation without caching.
