Complex system-level simulation can produce large amounts of data, of which only portions may be of interest. When experimenting with hybrid prototypes, consisting of physical and simulated components, data logs are generated and inspected in real-time. Storing full data logs would not only require much disk space, it would also require much effort to find special events and related system actions afterwards. Targeted on-line data extraction helps to instantly provide the data of interest. We present SystemXtract, a powerful specification language and tool for on-line data extraction, supporting origin-, value- and dynamic phase-based constrains on the data. The main contribution of this paper is to show how the language can be mapped to a graph-based processing architecture for executing data extraction as specified. Experiments show that the tool-induced overhead in computation time is insignificant and that the realtime execution of the hybrid prototype is not compromised, while the output is reduced to the interesting data. In this paper we discuss the possibility of novel mutual fusion of evolutionary algorithms, complex networks, strange dynamics and hidden attractors. As demonstrated in previous research papers, evolutionary algorithms are capable of very complex tasks such as chaotic system control, identification or synthesis and vice versa, chaos can be observed also in the evolutionary dynamics. We pro-pose a novel approach non how to analyze and control dynamic of evolutionary algorithm and also discuss possibility on strange dynamics analysis that is a part of dynamic of evolutionary algorithms. In any words, we propose to understand algorithms as a discrete dynamical system that exhibit wide spectra behavior that can be controlled and analyzed.

Toward activity mapping for Artifact-Centric business process

The existing method of task mapping between process models is mostly based on the similarity of labels to get the similarity between tasks, which is affected by a single factor and easy to cause errors. This paper proposes a task mapping method for Artifact-Centric business process analyzes the data operation in business process execution. At first we add the description of data operation to EZ-Flow model. Secondly select the similar artifact attributes of the two business artifact by whole artifacts similarity calculation and based them to calculate two tasks’ similarity by label similarity, artifact operation similarity and context similarity calculations. Finally, the task mapping comes from the optimal selection of tasks’ similarities. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of the method, and show that the method reflects the data operation characteristics of business process model, as artifact task mapping of the process model provides a feasible method. © 2016 SERSC.

This paper describes on-going work on the transposition to digital format of 2D images of a printed atlas of the brainstem. In MRI-based anatomical modeling for neurosurgery planning and simulation, the complexity of the functional anatomy entails a digital atlas approach, rather than less descriptive voxel or surfacebased approaches. However, there is an insufficiency of descriptive digital atlases, in particular of the brainstem. Our approach proceeds from a series of numbered, contour-based sketches coinciding with slices of the brainstem featuring both closed and open contours. The closed contours coincide with functionally relevant regions, in which case our objective is to fill in each corresponding label, which is analogous to painting numbered regions in a paint-by-numbers kit. The open contours typically coincide with cranial nerve tracts as well as symbols representing the medullary pyramids. This 2D phase is needed in order to produce densely labeled regions that can be stacked to produce 3D regions, as well as identifying embedded paths and outer attachment points of cranial nerves. In future work, the stacked labeled regions will be resampled and refined probabilistically, through active contour and surface modeling based on MRI T1, T2 and tractographic data. The relevance to spine modeling of this project is two-fold: (i) this atlas will fill a void left by the spine and brain segmentation communities, as no digital atlas of the brainstem exist, and (ii) this atlas is necessary to make explicit the attachment points of major nerves having both cranial and spinal origin, specifically nerves X and XI, as well all the attachment points of cranial nerves other than I and II. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

A new generation memory, Non-Volatile Memory (NVM), such as Phase-Change Memory (PCM), has been adopted together with DRAM in the main memory to form the hybrid main memory for low energy consumption and high capacity. The biggest challenge of hybrid memory is how to decrease the average memory access cost for the higher cost of NVM's read/write operation. Currently, most researches are based on migration. However, the page migration itself is a high cost operation. And the migration based policy produces many migration operations, which induces high cost in memory access. Therefore, in order to decrease the cost, we present a virtual page behavior based page management policy (VBPM) in this paper. According to the virtual pages' behavior, we allocate virtual pages into DRAM or PCM physical pages correspondingly. The whole process is migration independent. The experimental results show our VBPM decreases the average memory access time by 24%, moreover, VBPM improves real-time performance in critical path.

There have two effective ways to improve the overall efficiency of the object-based distributed storage system, one is network caching technology and the other is metadata server cluster load balancing strategy. Under the heterogeneous storage environments, object-based distributed file system face the key challenge of lacking caching mechanism for the high-frequency access files, metadata server load imbalance also reduce the overall efficiency. To address these challenges, we discuss the design and implementation of an object-based distributed file storage caching system, and propose a weight-based metadata server cluster load balancing strategy. It effectively improve the metadata processing capacity. Based on the results, it demonstrated the feasibility and the efficiency of our methods. © 2015 SERSC.

The OraCDP disaster recovery system uses CDP disaster recovery technology based on the combination of block level, combining with the communication coupling between the underlying I/O and Oracle database. The experimental results show that the OraCDP system can not only maintain the normal operation of the original system without any negative influence, but also guarantee the recovery of data and service at specific time quickly, fully and accurately. © 2015 SERSC.

Circadian cycles and other self-regulatory biological processes are the result of complex interactions between gene expression and molecular interactions. In this paper we study a Petri net model of the circadian clock and use gradient estimation methods for finding optimal input *** significance of our research is the potential early identification of pathologies caused by aberrant cycles, and the discovery of those rates that are of main importance for the control of the cycles, enabling specific cures for people, in accordance with personalized (or precision) medicine. We use SPSA to drive the simulation to the optimal rates that result in a desired period, then propose a surrogate model for gradient estimation that evaluates the exact gradient for an “aggregate” system described by ODEs. Our hybrid model for gradient estimation addresses the high-dimensionality problem and can potentially increase the efficiency of the optimization method by at least one order of magnitude.

An integrated visual modeling and simulation tool called Component-based System modeling and simulation (CoSMoS) is extended to support behavioral specification of parallel atomic DEVS model. An approach based on Statecharts and Graphical modeling Framework has been developed and implemented for specifying behaviors of atomic models. One or more Statecharts can be developed for any atomic model and stored in a relational database. The behavioral modeling complements atomic and coupled DEVS structural modeling where families of models with semi-automated code generated for the DEVS-Suite simulator are systematically stored and retrieve. The behavioral modeling enriches visual development of models that have DEVS-compliant specifications with modular, component-based visual representations. The visual representation of hierarchal coupled models are automatically generated or restored. An example model is employed to show the degree of details supported both in visual representation and database representation. Current and future works are briefly described. © 2015 Society for modeling & simulation International (SCS).
