In order to check if the system behavior satisfies the requirement set, this paper uses a class of DEVS, called finite & deterministic DEVS (FD-DEVS). Since the infinite state behavior of FD-DEVS networks can be abstracted as a finite reachable graph, this paper utilizes the reachable graph structure to check the emptiness of illegal behavior detected by checkers, called rejectors, as well as the non-emptiness of legal behavior generated by components under testing.

Especially in constructive simulations, there is a growing interest in the use of Human Behavior Representation (HBR) Models. Because of this interest many applications and models are developed. These are mainly from a human cognition and/or human interaction point of view. But most of these simulations are members of a Federation with a Federation Object Model (FOM) whose main task is not directly related with HBR but instead are focused on a weapon system, tactical scenario, moving platform or etc. Because of the very high complexity and numerous nonlinear relationships between entities, it is very difficult to develop and implement a pure HBR FOM. To develop a HBR FOM according to the Federation Development And Execution Process (FEDEP), first we should define federation objectives and determine what objectives drive "What should be in HBR FOM". In this paper we present a framework and it's development methodology for HBR FOM.

Frequency-domain macromodeling tools are of paramount importance for the design and study of microwave structures. In this paper, a reliable identification method, called orthormal vector fitting method, is combined with a relaxation constraint. This leads to more accurate fitting models, in a limited amount of computation time, especially if the spectral data is contaminated with noise. Its performance is analyzed on a measurement-based example and compared to other existing approaches in the field.

With the increased demand for distributed simulation environments to support large-scale modeling and simulation applications, much research has focused 011 developing a software environment to support simulation across a heterogeneous computing networks. I11 this paper, a new implementation of the DEVS formalism called DEVS/RMI system is presented as a natively distributed simulation system based 011 standard implementation of DEVS. Our objective is to distribute simulation entities across network nodes seamlessly without any of the commonly used middleware. The proposed DEVS/RMI system is also built to support autonomous, dynamic and adaptive reconfiguration of simulations during run-time. In general, the DEVS/RMI approach is well suited for complex, computationally intensive simulation applications, and it provides an flexible and efficient software development environment for rapid development of simulation applications in a heterogeneous network environment when compared with other more traditional high performance simulation packages using MPI or PVM. A test case of a large-scale dynamic 2D-Cell space model is discussed and presented in this paper.

In this paper we report about deployment of genetic algorithms in order to optimize tread profiles for tires that will produce an unobtrusive noise. Since the complexity of the problem grows exponentially (the search space is typically of the order of a 65-dimensional vector space), a complete search for the optimal tread profile is not possible even with today's computers. Thus heuristic optimization algorithms are an appropriate means to find (near) optimal tread profiles. We discuss approaches of speeding up the generation and analysis of tread profiles, and results using genetic algorithms.

RoboSoccer simulation is a complex multi-agent system in which agents play the role of soccer players and the main goal is to have a perfect domain for research and investigation on artificial intelligence. This paper intends to propose a new scoring module to select the best point on the goal line to shoot, considering player's position, catching and shooting time difference, and distance to target. Two different approaches have been implemented for this purpose. The first one is a simple decision making policy and the latter one takes advantage of statistical measurement and fuzzy decision making. Results show the superiority of the proposed method performance in over our previous work implemented on Nexus 3D RoboSuccer team of Ferdowsi University

Soccer simulation is an effort to motivate researchers to perform artificial and robotic intelligence research; and at the same time put into practice and evaluate the results. The research includes design and implementation of robotic soccer simulation algorithms in a multi-agent environment. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy two-phase approach, based on our previous crisp two-phase mechanism, for the soccer player agent's action selection. To do so, a fuzzy decision making approach was implemented which tells an agent what action to take, in a given situation. In comparison with similar implementations, our approach is faster and simpler to follow. This method is integrated into our Nexus soccer simulation team of Ferdowsi University. The outcome showed the superiority of the fuzzy two-phase selection method compared to the non-fuzzy one

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita pointed out the very real problems associated with attempting to evacuate millions of residents from specific regions of our country. These problems are encountered not only in natural disasters, but also occur in terrorist-type events such as biological, chemical or nuclear releases. Emergency managers and transportation officials must ensure that their plans are viable and take into account as many unforeseen circumstances as possible. Short of conducting an actual evacuation, modeling and simulation provides the only means of analyzing and testing evacuation plans under a variety of circumstances and conditions. This paper outlines how modeling and simulation can be employed effectively to conduct in-depth transportation evacuation analyses and demonstrates how an evacuation model can help answer the many "what if" questions for which public officials are responsible.

Dynamic data-driven application systems (DDDAS) integrate computersimulations with experimental observations to study phenomena with greater speed and accuracy than could be achieved by either experimentation or simulation alone. One of the key challenges behind DDDAS is automatically adapting simulations when experimental data indicates that a simulation must change. Coercion is a semi-automated simulation adaptation approach that can be automated further if elements of the simulation called flexible points are described in advance. In this paper, we use a number of DDDAS adaptation examples to identify the information that needs to be captured about flexible points in order to support coercion
