The direct modulation and fiber transmission performances of a bi-layer-oxide-confined 850-nm vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) containing an emission aperture size of 3.5 μm with versatile novel complex data formats are compared. With delivering quadrature amplitude modulation-orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (QAM-OFDM), generalized frequency-division multiplexing (GFDM), and discrete multi-tone (DMT) data streams, the highest data rate allowable for encoding the 3.5-μm-aperture VCSEL is demonstrated under back-to-back (BtB) and 100-m OM5-multi-mode fiber (OM5-MMF) transmissions. The newly designed 3.5-μm-aperture VCSEL contains InGaAs/AlGaAs multiple quantum wells and bi-layer-oxide-confined aperture to enhance its differential gain, reduce its thermal resistance, and improve its parasitic resistance for providing broader encoding bandwidth. Optimizing the VCSEL bias at 9 mA (11Ith) makes the lasing with three to four transverse modes suffer from a low modal dispersion effect, which also provides its 3-dB bandwidth as wide as 24.9 GHz and suppresses its RIN level to −138.0 dBc∕Hz for broadband OFDM/GFDM/DMT data encoding. By using the pre-distortion technique on the OFDM to compensate the SNR degradation, the OFDM modified with a pre-leveling slope of 0.5 dB/GHz can provide 160 Gbit/s for BtB and 140 Gbit/s for 100-m OM5-MMF transmissions. By dividing the N OFDM subcarriers into K equally-sized GFDM subcarriers and M equally-sized GFDM subsymbols, the QAM-GFDM with K = 2 can effectively enhance the out-of-band suppression to 35.9 dB and reduce the peak-to-average-power ratio to 9.7 dB, which can support 168 Gbit/s under BtB and 144 Gbit/s in 100-m OM5-MMF transmissions. To achieve the maximal spectral-usage efficiency, the DMT with the adaptive bit-loading algorithm is employed to improve the data rate up to 172 Gbit/s for BtB and 146 Gbit/s for 100-m OM5-MMF conditions. Blockchain has unlimited possibilities to break through many application areas. Cloud service is an on-demand service paradigm that facilitates the availability of shared resources for data storage and computing. Last several years, the combination of blockchain and cloud services has attracted much attention to ensure efficiency, openness, safety and even provide better cloud services in the form of novel service models. In order to develop the all potential of blockchain and cloud integration, it is significance that have a clear comprehension of current work in this area. None of the current overviews covers blockchain cloud integration from a service-oriented perspective. This article aims to outline the service orientation of blockchain integration to fill this vacancy. This overview explores different service models that integrate blockchain. For each service model, the existing work is summarized and comparatively analyzed, and a clear and concise view is provided in each sort. © 2022 IEEE.

In the context of the information age, electronic documents have replaced traditional paper documents and become the most commonly used data carrier in work. Compared with traditional paper documents, the cost of electronic documents is lower, and it is convenient for the modification and transmission of information, which brings great convenience to the work of users. However, while electronic documents bring convenience to users, digital copyright infringements are ubiquitous because of their ease of duplication. To protect the user’s document security, this paper develops a decentralized electronic document sharing framework based on blockchain non-fungible token (NFT) technology. We have designed an on-chain and off-chain collaborative storage solution for off-chain storage of source files and on-chain storage proofs for file storage. By setting the challenge period and extracting file keyword groups for file duplication detection, the user's copyright is protected. And develop smart contracts based on solidity language, design access control mechanisms, realize copyright deposit certificates, copyright confirmation, copyright infringement detection, and document sharing. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

This paper proposes a blockchain protection method based on distributed storage and reference value systems to prevent solar eclipse attacks in blockchain networks. Despite the inherent reliability and security provided by the decentralization of blockchain to a certain extent, potential network attacks that pose significant threats still exist. In response to these representative network attacks, particularly eclipse attacks, traditional solutions have primarily focused on controlling access nodes. While ensuring security, these solutions hinder the joining of new nodes and subsequent expansion of network. Therefore, this paper introduces an extensible method based on a reference value system and distributed storage. The method transfers the risk of nodes in the network falling victim to eclipse attacks through the reference value system and significantly reduces this risk through distributed storage. Finally, we analyze the proposed solution by creating a simulated network environment. The analysis results demonstrate that the proposed solution effectively mitigates the impact of eclipse attacks. © 2023 IEEE.

Post-hoc explanations are important for people to understand the predictions of explanation models. One class of methods in post-hoc explanation is the generation of counterfactuals, where a hypothetical example is obtained by perturbing the inputs to show how one could obtain a different prediction from the decision model. Counter-factual explanations should satisfy several properties: One is that counterfactuals generated under specific scenarios and constraints should be feasible for users, i.e., they should accommodate different causal constraints. The other is that it is more desirable for users to have a wider variety of viable examples, i.e., counterfactual diversity. To this end, we propose a parallelizable method based on gradient optimization. We partition the input feasible domains, perform counterfactual generation independently for each feasible domain, and then parallelize the counterfactual generation process for each feasible domain. Experimental results show that our approach effectively improves the diversity, sparsity, and proximity of the generated counterfactual instances on the public datasets Adult-Income, Lending-Club, German-Credit, and COMPAS compared to other models. © 2023 IEEE.

As the foundation of the Web3 trust system, blockchain technology faces increasing demands for scalability. Sharding emerges as a promising solution, but it struggles to handle highly concurrent cross-shard transactions (CSTxs), primarily due to simultaneous ledger operations on the same account. Hyperledger Fabric, a permissioned blockchain, employs multi-version concurrency control for parallel processing. Existing solutions use channels and intermediaries to achieve cross-sharding in Hyperledger Fabric. However, the conflict problem caused by highly concurrent CSTxs has not been adequately resolved. To fill this gap, we propose HiCoCS, a high concurrency cross-shard scheme for permissioned blockchains. HiCoCS creates a unique virtual sub-broker for each CSTx by introducing a composite key structure, enabling conflict-free concurrent transaction processing while reducing resource overhead. The challenge lies in managing large numbers of composite keys and mitigating intermediary privacy risks. HiCoCS utilizes virtual sub-brokers to receive and process CSTxs concurrently while maintaining a transaction pool. Batch processing is employed to merge multiple CSTxs in the pool, improving efficiency. We explore composite key reuse to reduce the number of virtual sub-brokers and lower system overhead. Privacy preservation is enhanced using homomorphic encryption. Evaluations show that HiCoCS improves cross-shard transaction throughput by 3.5-20.2 times compared to the baselines. © 1968-2012 IEEE.

The rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology has driven the intelligent transformation of various industries, including manufacturing, agriculture, and healthcare, etc., significantly enhancing their management capabilities and decision-making efficiency. Data analysis is crucial, serving as both the core technology of this transformation and a major driving force for advancing industry intelligence. However, the increasing volume of data has led to high energy consumption during data analysis, posing significant challenges to environmental and economic sustainability. Integrating renewable energy sources (RESs) is an effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions due to their low-carbon and renewable nature. Additionally, the spatiotemporal variability and complementarity of RES generation and grid electricity prices provide favorable conditions for distributed data processing. Therefore, a two-stage demand response scheme is proposed to reduce carbon emissions and electricity costs by prioritizing data processing in data centers (DCs) where RES is abundant or electricity prices are low, based on RES generation and electricity price signals. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces 36.37% carbon emissions and 20.49% electricity costs compared to the benchmark algorithm, indicating its potential for both environmental and economic optimization. © 2024 IEEE.
