With the rapid development of the Internet, Web log mining, which is used to find useful information about users from Web log files, has become a heat issue of research. The aim of association rule mining is to find interesting and useful patterns in a transaction base. This paper makes use of variable precision rough set theory to retrieve the associated rules from Web log and applies the rules to the prediction of users' behaviors. Experiments indicate that the prediction precision is better than those existing methods

A hierarchical sketch was implemented to summarize the hierarchical structure in stream data. The sketch used a XOR-based pair-wise independent family of hash functions on the hierarchical domain to map stream data items to a three dimensional array of counters of size LtimesDtimesW. Of the counter array, L was the layers in hierarchy, D was the number of uniformly and randomly chosen hash functions, and W was the range of hash functions. Based on the sketch, an algorithm that identified and evaluated the hierarchical frequent items over data streams approximately was implemented. This algorithm has sub-linear time and space costs and is almost exact in statistic meaning

Timing control during data aggregation operations of distributed sensor networks: Trade-off between query accuracy and response delay

Data aggregation in Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) has attracted wide attention since it could reduce the wireless communication data amount and thus save power consumption, which is one of the top concerns in low-power WSN systems. Given a Data Aggregation Tree (DAT) for data query purpose in a WSN and the expected query accuracy, we will show the feasibility to adaptively adjust the waiting period in each DAT level so that the end-to-end query delay could be optimized, i.e., without unnecessary pause in an aggregation node. This study will introduce some important data aggregation parameters (such as desired query accuracy and practical query resolution, etc.) to study the optimal, low-cost timing control scheme. For such an adaptive timing control scheme, we propose to use a Finite State Machine (FSM)-based auto-feedback control algorithm to adjust the waiting period of each DAT node to timely respond to the varying query results performance. For instance, in the beginning of the query task, the FSM algorithm should be able to use the fast speed to increase the waiting period so that more query results can be collected, while the algorithm should use micro-adjustments to slowly adjust the waiting period after the query accuracy has reached a certain level. From quantitative analysis, networking simulations and experimental setup perspectives, we will investigate the efficiency of our FSM-based timing control algorithm in terms of achieving a good trade-off between query accuracy and end-to-end query response delay. Our sensor network simulation results and hardware experiments have verified the validity of our proposed timing control scheme. In addition, we will also compare different FSM algorithms in different WSN data aggregation scenarios. © 2006 Asian network for Scientific Information.

Simultaneous switching noise (SSN) is one of the major bottlenecks for successful design of high-performance systems. Especially mixed-signal designs are very sensitive to SSN due to the low voltage levels applied in analog circuits. One way of isolation is by placing the digital and analog domains far from each other. Even then, the power planes can transfer noise voltages both vertically and horizontally through out the board and total board area is a major concern in microminiaturized convergent systems. Electromagnetic bandgap structures (EBG) have been successfully applied for such isolation. Although any periodical shape can be used for isolation, only a few shapes have been reported, with various analysis methods. We present a new EBG with narrow slits, which shows a higher attenuation constant compared with existing structures. We also present a new analysis methodology for 2D EBG structures. Finally, a method to scale such EBG structures for different stopband requirements is introduced

Power/ground planes in electronic packaging can be a major factor for noise coupling. There can be noise coupling not only in the transversal direction between two planes, but also vertically from one plane pair to another through the apertures and via holes. Due to the large size of the power/ground planes, it is difficult to analyze them using full-wave simulators. It is known that the finite difference solution of the Helmholtz equation provides a faster approach with a comparable accuracy. This paper presents new circuit models for a single plane pair based on the finite difference method: T- and X-models. It also presents a modeling approach for multiple plane pairs that are coupled through apertures

A passive detector for underwater swimmer, i.e. diver, is proposed in this paper. First we extract two features of diver's signal from the experimental data recorded in tank. Multi-hop ad hoc networks suffer from hidden nodes and exposed nodes. The multiple antennas receiver initiated busy tone medium access (MARI-BTMA) with the MIMO-OFDM transceiver architecture is a promising technique to exploit diversity in the physical layer of broadband wireless communications to achieve better performance in the ad-hoc network. If the channel is asynchronous then this scheme suffers from frequency offset, which results in unfairness and lowers throughput. In this paper, the power leakage from multiple carriers due to the frequency offset is calculated. Varying the carrier sensing threshold level on the busy tone channels is proposed as a way to overcome this problem. The carrier sensing threshold level chosen is a trade-off between the exposed area and the hidden area. The optimal threshold level is derived which minimizes the sum of the exposed node area and the hidden node area. Numerical results show how the total area changes with respect to the frequency offset. The effect of frequency offset, path loss exponent and distance between the transmitter and the receiver on the optimal threshold level and the carrier sensing range are also analyzed

Size reduction of an electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structure with large patches and small branches that connect adjacent patches for a power/ground plane pair is studied. To shrink the dimensions with a high isolation at the frequency of interest, this paper provides two approaches. One is a geometric approach which is to place two narrow slits on each patch. The increase of branch inductance with the long slit successfully decreases the on-set frequency of the stopband without increasing the patch size. The other approach is to use high-K material for a thin dielectric layer. In this case, the size reduction can be predicted according to a scaling law. These approaches are applied together to realize an EBG structure with the entire size of less than 20 mm on a side. It covers the GSM band with sufficient isolation. Through this study, the dispersion-diagram analysis is used to predict the stopband characteristics
