An audio event refers to some specific audio sound which plays important role for video content analysis. In our previous work [M. Xu et. al., (2004)], we have established audio event identification as an audio classification task. Due to the large size of audio database, representative samples are necessary for training the classifier. However, the commonly used random selection of training samples is often not adequate in selecting representative samples. In this paper we present EASIER sampling algorithm to select those data which more efficiently represent audio data characters for audio event identifier training. EASIER deterministic ally produces a subsample whose "distance" from the complete database is minimal. Experiments in the context of audio event identification show that EASIER outperforms simple random sampling significantly

In the field of mobile communications, there coexist various access technologies that support wireless connections, such as Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11 and GPRS. These technologies are diverse in terms of bandwidth, delay, coverage area, etc. It is not uncommon that a mobile device is equipped with multiple wireless network interfaces to achieve efficient and ubiquitous communications. In wireless overlay networks, the mobile node can even utilize multiple network interfaces simultaneously to achieve greater QoS performance. This paper presents the design of such a system that supports multi-homed communications. In particular, we design the policy for mapping different network flows to different interfaces, and propose a load-sharing algorithm based on weighted-round-robin channel selection and jump-ahead packet scheduling. Simulation results show that the algorithm can efficiently distribute data packets among multiple channels to achieve bandwidth aggregation.

We investigated power splitters in air core waveguides with a metallic photonic crystal cladding. The mechanism of propagation in these guides is the total external reflection. The cladding is formed by a periodic arrangement of metallic wires on square or triangular lattices. Power splitters can be designed by modifying the geometry at the splitting region by introducing a reflecting structure in order to increase the transmission coefficient. Some splitters based on these structures are analyzed by an efficient frequency domain finite element approach. © 2005 IEEE.

Many IEEE 802.11 based ad hoc networks do not support a node to perform simultaneous communications because there is only one wireless network interface card (NIC) at a node and multi-channel operation is not allowed in IEEE 802.11 ad hoc mode. In this paper, a novel multi-channel multi-NIC based scheme is proposed for IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks. The novel framework and function of multi-NIC management layer (MML) are described. Qualitative analysis results shows that the overall saturation throughput of the network is linearly increased with the number of NICs per node.

Integrated Business Support System of digital TV, also called Subscriber Management System(SMS), includes subscriber management, program purchase, balancing charges, engineering construction management. It also transmits commands of assignment or cancellation of authorization to CA system by interfacing with CA, which then passes these commands to scrambler, and control of acceptance of Digital TV program is accomplished. Unique CA is required over a whole province, program streams, SI, ECM, EMM are transmitted through SDH network. This paper discusses its operation mode, software architecture and network services of SMS.

This paper presents a novel media access control (MAC) mechanism for IEEE 802.11 ad hoc networks, where a station will start a virtual contention process before every data packet from upper layer is forwarded to 802.11 MAC layer. By choosing the optimal size of virtual contention window for the specified network scenario (i.e., the number of stations and 802.11 MAC parameters), the maximum throughput of system can be achieved, which is validated by analytical model. Our scheme is very simple for practical deploying because there are no modifications required on IEEE802.11 hardware.

This paper proposes an adaptive on-line intrusion detection model based on incremental rule learning. This model can make self-learning over the ever-emerged new network behavior examples and dynamically modify behavior profile of the model, which overcomes the disadvantage that the traditional static detecting model must relearn over all the old and new examples, even can't relearn because of limited memory size. The experiment results validate the feasibility and effectivity of the presented adaptive intrusion detection model.

Intrusion detection experimental system using evolutionary neural network

Complying with the basic rules set by MIT Lincoln Lab's IDS test, this paper establishes a Linux-host-based intrusion detection experimental system (IDS), and puts forward a feasible intrusion feature set. The IDS system takes evolutionary neural networks as decision-making tool, and extracts 29 features and detects real-time intrusions. The experiment results demonstrate that the detection system is reasonably designed, the extracted features are effective, and the IDS system can detect most known and unknown attacks.
