The growing deployment of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoTs) raises significant authentication concerns, especially in scenarios where resource-constrained devices need to delegate tasks with more powerful entities. This critical factor affects the information exchange during the delegation process between the Original User (OU) and the Proxy Signer (PS). The process of delegation communication entails the transfer of signing authority from a delegator to a PS. It enables the proxy signer to sign messages on behalf of delegator. As a result, complexity is increased significantly to enhance both the security and efficiency of communication overhead. To address these challenges in a transparent way, this article proposed and explores the utilization of Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) as an additional authentication step in certificateless proxy signature mechanism. Whereas, for security hardness, Hyperelliptic Curve (HEC) is being amalgamated using ‘Schnorr signature’. Performance analysis depicts that the proposed approach exhibits not only minimized communication overhead but also provides optimal security as compared to existing approaches.

In the era of global digitalization, digital innovation hubs have become essential, as they function as transforming forces. In this paper, we provide an analysis of the Montenegrin Academic Digital Innovation Hub by applying multi-criteria qualitative evaluation over several criteria: process flow of fully digitized operations of the Hub (with aspects of the innovation life-cycle, ethics, and security), resource management, strategic goals, and feasibility. The paper also proposes a model of comprehensive resource management via the perspective of smart specialization priorities of Montenegro. © 2023 IEEE.

To reduce the delay and network congestion for content delivery in wireless networks, proactive caching scheme has attracted lots of attentions from both academia and industry. However, traditional caching prediction methods require to collect user data in a centralized server, which is becoming unreliable and impractical due to regulatory restrictions. To circumvent this issue, deploying caching prediction system in a federated learning (FL) fashion becomes a promising solution. However, there still exist privacy risks, and even worse, the FL is vulnerable to low-cost attacks. To solve this problem, a novel federated prediction system (FPS) is studied to provide high robustness and privacy. Firstly, to keep a balance between further enhancing privacy protection and alleviating the performance degradation caused by additional protection schemes, we propose an edge-assisted, robust and privacy-preserving FPS framework based on the local differential privacy (LDP) scheme. Secondly, to mitigate the impact of heterogeneous data, we add a regularization term to the local loss function. Furthermore, an attention-based aggregation scheme is proposed to defend against Byzantine attacks during the training process. Finally, the experiment results are provided to show the superiority of our proposed algorithm in terms of prediction accuracy and robustness.

With the advancement of information technology in the recent decades, digital and online services have become essential components of everyday life in Europe. Montenegro is no different in this regard. However, as digital literacy in the country is still in a developing phase in comparison with most countries of the EU, a higher portion of its citizens may rely on assistive technical communication. In this paper, we provide a case study on the assistive technical communication of Montenegrin eServices. The work addresses the sectors of online banking, healthcare services, higher education, national administrative services, and utilities. Our findings highlight the diversity in terms of implemented assistive technical communication, and distinguish usage contexts on the level of adequacy. Yet as the functionalities of Montenegrin eServices are expected to gradually expand in the upcoming years, assistive technical communication must aim to handle the higher extents of service complexity. © 2023 IEEE.

With the development and application of computer vision, many target detection networks are applied to the detection of floating objects in rivers. For the detection problems such as small targets easily missed and misdetected in water surface floating object detection tasks and difficult to deploy models. An edge computing-oriented approach to river floater detection is proposed. First, a four-fold down-sampling feature layer is added to the YOLOv5 network which enhances more target detail features and improves the detection capability of small objects. Second, CA (Coordinate Attention) is added to the Backbone to suppress background noise interference, and different pooling is used to accommodate different hierarchical features. Then, a bilinear interpolation method is adopted for up-sampling to avoid the loss of small object features. Design a data enhancement algorithm for small targets based on Mosaic to increase the number of small objects and enrich the training background. Finally, for the edge computing architecture platform, the channel pruning algorithm is used to prune and compress the model structure to adapt to the computing capability of edge devices. The experimental results show that the method can effectively improve the detection capability of the network for floating objects on the water surface. The detection accuracy can reach 93.6%, and the detection speed can be maintained at 36 frames per second, which can achieve high-precision real-time detection of floating objects on the water surface.

Network Address Confidentiality (NAC) classifies all third parties and network nodes as adversaries and limits access to the network packet addresses in cleartext exclusively to the communicating endpoints. NAC implies certain anonymity properties, namely sender/recipient and relationship unlinkabilities. Blind Packet Forwarding (BPF) realizes NAC and its unlinkability properties by redesigning the packet forwarding and its associated network functions to blind ones transferring and processing packet addresses in end-to-end encrypted form. BPF defines two modes. In the semi-blind mode, NAC and its unlinkability properties apply only to communicating endpoints, while the fully blind mode provides these security properties for communicating endpoints as well as domains and local networks. However, the full blindness in a domain requires to set up and maintain masked routing tables within the entire domain, which is a costly process. This paper proposes multiple approaches for different cases to selectively set up masked routing table entries and to perform the full blindness on demand. Moreover, we present our prototype implementation and its evaluation by means of an adjusted OpenFlow version and multiple scenarios respectively.

QUIC is a novel transport protocol developed to solve some of the well-known problems in Internet data transfer. QUIC can separately manage data of multiple distinct flows (streams) within a QUIC connection. In contrast to other protocols, like e.g. SCTP, it also uses data Flow Control (FC) on the stream as well as the connection level. The QUIC FC uses a credit-based scheme on both levels. In order to evaluate the QUIC performance in detail, we implemented a QUIC simulation model featuring Congestion Control (CC) and FC according to the current standard [11]. During our evaluation, we observed suboptimal behavior of the credit-based FC algorithm, resulting in a significant degradation of the throughput of the entire connection and the goodput of each stream in the QUIC data transfer. In this paper, we propose some modifications to the credit-based FC scheme and show by means of simulation that these modifications completely mitigate the issues and enable achieving the optimum performance in FC-limited scenarios. We further show that the improved FC correctly cooperates with Congestion Control and Retransmission mechanisms and has no negative impact on the protocol performance in cases where the latter mechanisms dominate the protocol behavior.

Real-time holographic video communications enable immersive experiences for next-generation video services in the future metaverse era. However, high-fidelity holographic videos require high bandwidth and significant computation resources, which exceed the transferring and computing capacity of 5G networks. This article reviews state-of-the-art holographic point cloud video (PCV) transmission techniques and highlights the critical challenges of delivering such immersive services. We further implement a preliminary prototype of an AI-driven holographic video communication system and present critical experimental results to evaluate its performance. The metaverse has awakened users’ expectations of an immersive interaction that fuses the virtual digital world and the physical world across space and time. However, the metaverse is still in its infancy, typically expanding multi-player applications (e.g., multi-player games) to implement a prototype with the help of 5G/Beyond 5G, Artificial Intelligence, digital twin, and other enabling technologies. This article reviews the characteristics, key enabling technologies, and driving applications of the state-of-the-art metaverse. We focus on the immersive interactions perspective of the metaverse from the tasks, inputs, and feedback across the users, digital world, and physical world and reveal the key challenges. Afterwards, we present a multi-player interaction prototype platform based on a cloud-edge-device collaborative framework. Also, we evaluate it with centralized and device-to-device (D2D) approaches to verify the efficiency and flexibility of interactions. Finally, we point out future research approaches and discuss potential solutions to enable more stable and higher quality multi-player interactions for metaverse services. 6G-enabled edge intelligence opens up a new era of Internet of Everything and makes it possible to interconnect people-devices-cloud anytime, anywhere. More and more next-generation wireless network smart service applications are changing our way of life and improving our quality of life. As the hottest new form of next-generation Internet applications, Metaverse is striving to connect billions of users and create a shared world where virtual and reality merge. However, limited by resources, computing power, and sensory devices, Metaverse is still far from realizing its full vision of immersion, materialization, and interoperability. To this end, this survey aims to realize this vision through the organic integration of 6G-enabled edge AI and Metaverse. Specifically, we first introduce three new types of edge-Metaverse architectures that use 6G-enabled edge AI to solve resource and computing constraints in Metaverse. Then we summarize technical challenges that these architectures face in Metaverse and the existing solutions. Furthermore, we explore how the edge-Metaverse architecture technology helps Metaverse to interact and share digital data.
