As renewable energy resources are integrated into the power grid to address the global energy and climate crisis, local energy markets have emerged as a possible solution. In such markets, peers in a smart grid trade locally generated energy. To reduce the stress on the grid caused by the volatility of renewable energy sources, households use electric batteries to maximize their self-consumption of generated energy. In this paper, we propose a peer-to-peer trading platform that integrates batteries into the distributed energy management trading system. We show that local optimization of single households not only benefits the individual households in terms of increased self-consumption and financial gains but also has an overall positive impact on the energy community compared to a simple battery implementation.

The simultaneous advances in the Internet of Things(IoT),Artificial intelligence(AI)and Robotics is going to revolutionize our world in the near *** recent years,LoRa(Long Range)wireless powered by LoRaWAN(LoRa Wide Area Network)protocol has attracted the attention of researchers for numerous applications in the IoT *** is a low power,unlicensed Industrial,Scientific,and Medical(ISM)bandequipped wireless technology that utilizes a wide area network protocol,i.e.,LoRaWAN,to incorporate itself into the network *** this paper,we have evaluated the LoRaWAN communication protocol for the implementation of the IoT(Internet of Things)nodes’communication in a forest *** outdoor performance of LoRa wireless in LoRaWAN,i.e.,the physical layer,has been evaluated in the forest area of Kashirampur Uttarakhand,***,the present paper aims towards analyzing the performance level of the LoRaWAN technology by observing the changes in Signal to Noise Ratio(SNR),Packet Reception Ratio(PRR)and Received Signal Strength Indicator(RSSI),with respect to the distance between IoT *** article focuses on estimating network lifetime for a specific set of LoRa configuration parameters,hardware selection and power *** the experimental results,it has been observed that transmissions can propagate to a distance of 300 m in the forest environment,while consuming approx.63%less energy for spreading factor 7 at 2 dBm,without incurring significant packet loss with PRR greater than 80%.

Critical nonlinear aspects of hopping transport for reconfigurable logic in disordered dopant networks

Nonlinear behavior in the hopping transport of interacting charges enables reconfigurable logic in disordered dopant network devices, where voltages applied at control electrodes tune the relation between voltages applied at input electrodes and the current measured at an output electrode. From kinetic Monte Carlo simulations we analyze the critical nonlinear aspects of variable-range hopping transport for realizing Boolean logic gates in these devices on three levels. First, we quantify the occurrence of individual gates for random choices of control voltages. We find that linearly inseparable gates such as the xor gate are less likely to occur than linearly separable gates such as the and gate, despite the fact that the number of different regions in the multidimensional control voltage space for which and or xor gates occur is comparable. Second, we use principal-component analysis to characterize the distribution of the output current vectors for the (00,10,01,11) logic input combinations in terms of eigenvectors and eigenvalues of the output covariance matrix. This allows a simple and direct comparison of the behavior of different simulated devices and a comparison to experimental devices. Third, we quantify the nonlinearity in the distribution of the output current vectors necessary for realizing Boolean functionality by introducing three nonlinearity indicators. The analysis provides a physical interpretation of the effects of changing the hopping distance and temperature and is used in a comparison with data generated by a deep neural network trained on a physical device.

Software-defined networking decouples control and data plane in softwarized networks. This allows for centralized management of the network. However, complete centralization of the controller's functions raises the issue of the central point of failure, latency, and scalability. distributed controller deployment is adopted to optimize scalability and latency problems. However, the existing controllers are monolithic, resulting in code inefficiency for distributed deployment. Recently, microservices-based SDN solutions have been started and deployed as virtual network functions, enabling flexible deployment. Nonetheless, the softwarization of network functionalities introduces network I/O performance degradation both considering deployments based on virtual machines and containers. This paper first introduces a microservices-based SDN solution based on Ryu SDN Framework. Then investigates whether running Ryu's network functionalities in a softwarized environment (e.g., virtual machine and container) would have a significant network I/O performance degradation. In particular, this work examines more in deep the Docker Container technology and analyzes its network setups. Multiple measurements were performed locally in a single machine. Our results show a comparison between microservices-based non-virtualized SDN Controller and the virtualized one, and moreover, show a comparison between different Docker Container network setups. © VDE VERLAG GMBH · Berlin · Offenbach.

Scrutinizing the level of awareness and adoption of distributed ledger technology in the Nigerian construction industry

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate and analyze the level of awareness and adoption of distributed ledger technologies (DLTs) within the Nigerian construction industry. The focus was on addressing the current state of DLT utilization, identifying challenges and opportunities and proposing strategies to enhance the integration of DLTs into the construction processes and practices of Nigerian professionals and organizations. Design/methodology/approach: The research was underpinned by a robust theoretical and conceptual framework, drawing from established theories of technology adoption. A comprehensive literature review guided the identification of various DLT types. This informed the development of a well-structured questionnaire, which was then distributed to Nigerian construction professionals. The collected data underwent analysis using percentages, frequencies, mean scores, the Kruskal–Wallis H-test and the Shapiro–Wilk test. Findings: A significant finding of this study reveals a generally low awareness and implementation of DLT among construction professionals in Nigeria. These findings emphasize the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to bridge the gap between awareness and adoption of DLT within the Nigerian construction industry. Practical implications: Industry associations, regulatory bodies and educational institutions can collaborate to develop specialized programs aimed at familiarizing professionals with the benefits and applications of DLTs. Additionally, technology providers and policymakers can leverage these findings to design user-friendly interfaces and guidelines for seamless DLT integration into construction processes. Originality/value: This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing a comprehensive assessment of the awareness and adoption of DLTs specifically within the Nigerian construction industry. Aluminium electrolytic capacitors (AECs) are crucial components used in power supplies, computer motherboards, and variable frequency drives for ripple filtering and energy storage. Their performance is affected by factors like temperature, frequency, ripple current, and ageing. Despite design advancements, AECs remain reliability weak points, demanding thorough analysis. This research proposes a method to predict the Remaining Useful Life (RUL) of AECs under combined temperature and voltage stress. We develop an RUL prediction model using bagged decision trees by ageing 24 AEC samples and tracking degradation via capacitance and ESR changes. Synthetic data strengthens the model due to limited training data. We assess the impact of different minority oversampling methods like SMOTE, SMOTER, and SMOGN on prediction accuracy, using ANOVA to compare outcomes within and between algorithms. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The advent of simultaneous wireless information and power (SWIPT) has been regarded as a promising technique to provide power supplies for an energy sustainable Internet of Things (IoT), which is of paramount importance due to the proliferation of high data communication demands of low-power network devices. In such networks, a multi-antenna base station (BS) in each cell can be utilized to concurrently transmit messages and energies to its intended IoT user equipment (IoT-UE) with a single antenna under a common broadcast frequency band, resulting in a multi-cell multi-input single-output (MISO) interference channel (IC). In this work, we aim to find the trade-off between the spectrum efficiency (SE) and energy harvesting (EH) in SWIPT-enabled networks with MISO ICs. For this, we derive a multi-objective optimization (MOO) formulation to obtain the optimal beamforming pattern (BP) and power splitting ratio (PR), and we propose a fractional programming (FP) model to find the solution. To tackle the nonconvexity of FP, an evolutionary algorithm (EA)-aided quadratic transform technique is proposed, which recasts the nonconvex problem as a sequence of convex problems to be solved iteratively. To further reduce the communication overhead and computational complexity, a distributed multi-agent learning-based approach is proposed that requires only partial observations of the channel state information (CSI). In this approach, each BS is equipped with a double deep Q network (DDQN) to determine the BP and PR for its UE with lower computational complexity based on the observations through a limited information exchange process. Finally, with the simulation experiments, we verify the trade-off between SE and EH, and we demonstrate that, apart from the FP algorithm introduced to provide superior solutions, the proposed DDQN algorithm also shows its performance gain in terms of utility to be up to 1.23-, 1.87-, and 3.45-times larger than the Advantage Actor Critic (A2C), greed

The article discusses the problem of parametric identification of interval discrete models of complex objects. A new scheme of parallel computations for solving the problem of parametric identification based on the behavioral model of an artificial bee colony is proposed and justified. The effectiveness of the proposed parallel computing scheme is considered using the example of parametric identification of a mathematical model of the anaerobic microbiological fermentation process in biogas plants. A nonlinear second-order discrete model describes the dynamics of residual organic waste mass in the biogas reactor during fermentation. According to the results of the experiments, a 2-fold acceleration of the algorithm’s computational time was achieved.

With the ubiquitous and distributed nature of the Internet-of-Things (IoT), various qualities of traditional communication methods for end devices and their verifiers prove insufficient in solving the challenges this new paradigm faces. Many new hardware and software technologies are proposed in an attempt to provide IoT systems with desired security properties while meeting performance requirements. Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs) are one such technology receiving particular interest from the wider research community by promising to provide low-cost and highly secure key data to enable lightweight authentication protocols for devices operating over publicly accessible networks. PUFs have been the target of Machine Learning Modelling Attacks (ML-MA), which aim to clone the intrinsic behaviour of the PUF to undermine their security. While many PUF-based schemes have been proposed to defend against adversaries who are guaranteed to be dishonest, an area which has not seen significant consideration is one where a normal communication participant cannot always be assumed to act honestly. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first to consider the concept of ‘semi-honest verifier’ for PUFbased authentication, taking initial steps to shed light on this prominent issue in IoT by proposing a privacy-preserving mutual authentication protocol which considers security against MLMA in the presence of such verifiers. Furthermore, this work describes hardware-level considerations for PUF obfuscation by utilising a combination of strong PUF, configurable One-Way Function (OWF) and secure DRAM-PUF and is, therefore, one of the first to integrate PUF obfuscation comprehensively at the protocol level.
