It is a matter of fact that Europe is facing more and more crucial challenges regarding health and social care due to the demographic change and the current economic context. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has stressed this situation even further, thus highlighting the need for taking action. Active and Assisted Living (AAL) technologies come as a viable approach to help facing these challenges, thanks to the high potential they have in enabling remote care and support. Broadly speaking, AAL can be referred to as the use of innovative and advanced Information and communication Technologies to create supportive, inclusive and empowering applications and environments that enable older, impaired or frail people to live independently and stay active longer in society. AAL capitalizes on the growing pervasiveness and effectiveness of sensing and computing facilities to supply the persons in need with smart assistance, by responding to their necessities of autonomy, independence, comfort, security and safety. The application scenarios addressed by AAL are complex, due to the inherent heterogeneity of the end-user population, their living arrangements, and their physical conditions or impairment. Despite aiming at diverse goals, AAL systems should share some common characteristics. They are designed to provide support in daily life in an invisible, unobtrusive and user-friendly manner. Moreover, they are conceived to be intelligent, to be able to learn and adapt to the requirements and requests of the assisted people, and to synchronise with their specific needs. Nevertheless, to ensure the uptake of AAL in society, potential users must be willing to use AAL applications and to integrate them in their daily environments and lives. In this respect, video- and audio-based AAL applications have several advantages, in terms of unobtrusiveness and information richness. Nowadays, wireless sensor networks (WSN) are widely used for various Internet of Things applications. The sensor nodes are usually deployed randomly in the field. Thus, searching for node coordinates is one of the requirements to construct the network structure. With knowing distances between nodes and the coordinates of anchor nodes in a certain network fragment, we propose a method based on the multidimensional scaling for searching for desired node coordinates.

Intelligent Wheelchairs represent mechanical devices designed to empower individuals with the ability to move independently. This results in a reduction of the user’s energy expenditure and effort required to maneuver the wheels. Additionally, these devices facilitate the movement of visually or physically challenged individuals between different locations. The wheelchair is equipped with a system that recognizes obstacles, thereby minimizing the risk of accidents during transportation. Recently, there has been a growing fascination with smart wheelchairs, which prove particularly advantageous for seamless transportation. These devices find application not only’s for personal use but also in nursing homes, aiding elderly individuals facing mobility challenges. They are particularly in-valuable for those who has lost their mobility. While various type of intelligently designed wheel-chairs has been developing in the past, ongoing advancements introduce new generations with artificial intelligence, offering users a ranges of options. People with life-long disability resulted from accidents, paralysis, or aging often depend on others for assistance. The incorporation of intelligent healthcare systems, including remote health monitoring, enhances their independence by allowing continuous health tracking without requiring active effort from the individual. This is especially beneficial for those facing difficulties accessing traditional medical systems. In today’s world, numerous individuals with disabilities encounter obstacles in their daily lives and mobility. While many rely on external support, the integration of assistive technologies enables them for achieving the degree of self-independence. Among these technologies, wheelchairs are the most commonly utilized. The ever-increasingly urban population and its material demands have brought an unprecedented burden to cities. Smart cities leverage emerging technologies like CR-IoT to provide better QoE and QoS for all citizens. However, resource allocation is an important problem in CR-IoT. Currently, this problem is handled by auction theory or game theory. To make CR-IoT nodes smarter and more autonomously allocate resources, we propose a multiagent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithm to learn the optimal resource allocation strategies in the oligopolistic market model. Firstly, we model a multi-agent scenario with two primary users (PUs) as sellers and multiple secondary users (SUs) as buyers, which is a Bertrand market model. Then, we propose the Q-probabilistic multiagent learning (QPML) and apply it for allocating resource in a market. In the situation of multiagent interaction, the PUs and SUs learn strategies to maximize their revenue. Experimental results prove our multiagent learning approach performs well and convergence also well. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Motivated by the move towards the next generation of green communications, we study a power beacon (PB) assisted wireless-powered cooperative communication network (PBWPCCN). A new system model is proposed where a source and a number of relay terminals are not directly connected to the power grid. These terminals, including the source, need to harvests energy from radio frequency (RF) signals radiated from PB and works cooperatively to deliver the information to the target device successfully. The system executes this process in a two-stage relay selection decode-then-forward (2SRS-DF). First, the system selects a group of relay candidates that can successfully decode the received signal from the source. Second, from the first relays group that successfully decodes the source signal, the best relay with the maximum capability to forward the decoded message to the destination is selected. The closed-form expression for the average outage probability and the throughput of the proposed system is derived and presented. We validate the theoretical results by numerical simulations. The impact of position and number of relay terminals along with time allocation parameters are also studied.

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with power-domain user multiplexing has been considered as one of the potential candidates of the fifth-Generation (5G) systems. In this paper, a two-stage user selection algorithm is proposed based on proportional fairness for downlink NOMA with zero-forcing beamforming (PF-NOMA-ZFBF) in order to improve the throughput-fairness trade-off for NOMA system. We focus on short term fairness, where short term refers to the minimum time window in which a specified fairness is guaranteed and evaluated using Jain's index. A transmit power allocation then applied to enhance the throughput of NOMA system. Simulation results show that the proposed PF-NOMA-ZFBF significantly improves user fairness index with at least 38.96% over conventional NOMA-ZFBF while maintaining the total system sum-rate (near maximum).

The principle of network construction and the principle of request signals service of Secondary surveillance radar systems predetermined the work of the respondents of the considered systems in conditions of intra-system and intentional correlated and uncorrelated interferences. The article estimates the impact of masking fluctuation interferences on the quality of the request signals detection. It is shown that the choice of time-interval codes as the request signals predetermined the low noise immunity of the considered systems when a channel is exposed by the fluctuation interference. © 2018 IEEE.

In this paper, a broadband elliptical slotted patch antenna has been proposed for 5G wireless communications. The proposed antenna apparatus has a minimal size of 0.308λ 0 × 0.308λ 0 × 0.009λ 0 at 22 GHz. The antenna bandwidth is enhanced for an elliptical ground plane. Microstrip feed line has been connected by a stub, to achieve better impedance. Array design has been designed for better gain, therefore array design has been made. The array has a high gain of about 18 dBi at 28 GHz and 21dBi at 38 GHz. The proposed antenna covers a wide band area from 22 GHz to 48 GHz. The proposed antenna covers 28/38 GHz. The antenna additionally gives omnidirectional to required 5G bands.

Game of drones - Detecting streamed POI from encrypted FPV channel

Drones have created a new threat to people's privacy. We are now in an era in which anyone with a drone equipped with a video camera can use it to invade a subject's privacy by streaming the subject in his/her private space over an encrypted first person view (FPV) channel. Although many methods have been suggested to detect nearby drones, they all suffer from the same shortcoming: they cannot identify exactly what is being captured, and therefore they fail to distinguish between the legitimate use of a drone (for example, to use a drone to film a selfie from the air) and illegitimate use that invades someone's privacy (when the same operator uses the drone to stream the view into the window of his neighbor's apartment), a distinction that in some cases depends on the orientation of the drone's video camera rather than on the drone's location. In this paper we shatter the commonly held belief that the use of encryption to secure an FPV channel prevents an interceptor from extracting the POI that is being streamed. We show methods that leverage physical stimuli to detect whether the drone's camera is directed towards a target in real time. We investigate the influence of changing pixels on the FPV channel (in a lab setup). Based on our observations we demonstrate how an interceptor can perform a side-channel attack to detect whether a target is being streamed by analyzing the encrypted FPV channel that is transmitted from a real drone (DJI Mavic) in two use cases: when the target is a private house and when the target is a subject. In the paper, based on a comparative analysis of the methods of processing time-interval codes used as secondary surveillance radar information signals consisting of a different sequence of performing joint decoding operations, selecting signals by duration and time position, it is shown that the most effective is the signal processing method in which first the signals are decoded, then the signals are selected in accordance with the duration and in the future with the selection according to the time position, which provides the lowest probability of a false alarm of the first kind. © 2018 IEEE.
