The increasing in utilization of cell phones and number of cell phone users in rural and urban areas has requested the network specialists to grow their scope to cover all spots In wireless communication system, the cell towers distribution requires effort such as network planning and cost as it needs expensive equipment's like Global Positioning System (GPS). This paper proposes new technique to determine the minimum number with optimal distribution of cell towers that required for a specific area. The goal of the proposed technique is to guarantee the efficient quality of service that is includes adequate coverage and good call quality with minimum cost. The proposed technique depends on self-organizing map (SOM) neural network with effective modification and used suitable model of path loss propagation. It clusters the subscribers (nodes) by using optimized clustering technique to find minimum appropriate number of cell towers and optimizing their distribution. The optimizing process takes into its consideration achieving maximum coverage without interference and, minimum cost. Suitable path loss propagation model and received power equations are used in applied experiments. The results show improvement in coverage and reduction in required number of towers, resulting in reducing the cost. © 2017 IEEE.

In this paper we present the fundamental concept, as well as, the objectives and the architecture of HarmonicSS EU project. The proposed architecture envisages to address (i) the lack of patient stratification in large patient cohorts, (ii) the dataset heterogeneity across these cohorts, and (iii) the incomplete understanding of disease pathogenesis. In order to do so, ontology matching mechanisms are recruited for harmonizing the clinical data, distributed data analytics services have been designed for the de-centralized analysis of patient data, and different health policies can be assessed, all of them with respect to the data protection guidelines posed by the upcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The HarmonicSS architecture has been employed towards the development of a data sharing, harmonization and distributed analytics framework for the recruitment and analysis of heterogeneous regional, national and international longitudinal cohorts of patients with primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS). The outcomes can be used by researchers, clinicians, patients, and health policy makers. © 2018 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

In this paper, the design of a new printed circularly polarized (CP) antenna with an octave operating bandwidth is presented. The design technique is different from conventional monopole/dipole antenna. The antenna has a microstrip-fed line of rectangular radiator printed on RT/Duroid substrate with the total dimension of 106 mm × 60 mm × 1.57 mm. In the bottom, another rectangular radiator is printed which act as a ground. The upper and bottom radiators are both constituted in asymmetric feeding so that the surface current generate left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) orthogonally. The design is simulated in HFSS simulation solver and the properties are carefully analyzed to verify the antenna characteristics. The simulated result shows the bandwidth of 960 MHz to 2.60 GHz under a 10-dB return loss and axial ratio bandwidth of 2 GHz to 5 GHz at 3-dB. With a stable gain of 4.2 dB the antenna shows circular polarization. A parametric study of the surface current distribution and the mechanism of CP is analyzed. © 2017 IEEE.

The use of Ubiquitous Computing, Mobile Computing and Internet of Things (UMI) technologies can open new opportunities for STEM education1. UMI-Sci-Ed, a Horizon 2020 project, explores the new possibilities and through a multidisciplinary approach proposes a new integrated framework for engaging all stakeholders (students, teachers, domain and technology experts, entrepreneurs) in order to promote positive attitudes towards innovation and a knowledge-based society. In this paper we present preliminary results on the methodology followed to leverage STEM education via UMI technologies. In particular, we discuss key components of this methodology, an example educational scenario and the corresponding UMI application developed and a preliminary evaluation of the approach in the context of a local school. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.

Organizations have different takes on Information Security Management systems (ISMS) since security measurements vary according to their business relevance. One way to assure ISMS is being well-implemented is by having a standard compliance such as the ISO 27000 series. The ISO 27000 series is a family of standards that provides a framework for best practice ISMS that helps organizations keep their information assets secure. This paper intends to seek how organizations in different business sectors implement ISMS in their practices. By identifying which organization attains a higher number of ISO requirements, it is anticipated that the characteristics that increase the chances of an organization being certified can be distinguished. This paper reviews case studies regarding the ISMS implementation based on ISO 27000 series between organizations in different business sectors. The result of this paper presents the state of ISO compliance of the organizations. The findings also discussed the characteristics of organizations that are applicable for certification. Through the findings, it is found that the organization, which fulfilled the highest number of ISO requirement, has a stronger possibility of being certified. However, ISO standards should be more dynamic to support diverse business environment thus avoiding generalization to get compliance.

The principle of network construction and the principle of request signals service of Secondary surveillance radar systems predetermined the work of the respondents of the considered systems in conditions of intra-system and intentional correlated and uncorrelated interferences. The article estimates the impact of masking fluctuation interferences on the quality of the request signals detection. It is shown that the choice of time-interval codes as the request signals predetermined the low noise immunity of the considered systems when a channel is exposed by the fluctuation interference.

In the paper, based on a comparative analysis of the methods of processing time-interval codes used as secondary surveillance radar information signals consisting of a different sequence of performing joint decoding operations, selecting signals by duration and time position, it is shown that the most effective is the signal processing method in which first the signals are decoded, then the signals are selected in accordance with the duration and in the future with the selection according to the time position, which provides the lowest probability of a false alarm of the first kind.

This paper develops a Jaya-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method for photovoltaic (PV) arrays working under variable partial shading conditions. In practice, the Jaya is deployed in the inverter to obtain the optimal voltage setting for MPPT through an efficient iterative interaction with the PV system. A simulation study is conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in tracking the global maximum power point (GMPP) of PV arrays exposed to various partial shading patterns. The performance of the proposed method is benchmarked with PSO which is the most frequently utilized optimization algorithm for PV MPPT. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed method requires less iterations to converge to the GMPP and shows higher dynamical tracking efficiency than PSO methods. © 2017 IEEE.

The paths loss propagation model is an important tool in wireless network planning, allowing network planner to optimize the cell towers distribution and meet expected service level requirements. However, each type of path loss propagation model is designed to predict path loss in a particular environment that may be inaccurate in other different environment. In this research different propagation models (Hata Model, ICC-33 Model, Ericson Model and Coast-231 Model) have been analyzed and compared based on the measured data. The measured data represent signal strength of two cell towers placed in two different environments which obtained by a drive test of them. First one in AL-Habebea represents an urban environment (high-density region) and the second in AL-Hindea district represents a rural environment (low-density region) with operating frequency 0.8 GHz. The results of performing the analysis and comparison conclude that Hata model and Ericsson model shows small deviation from real measurements in urban environment and Hata model generally gives better prediction in the rural environment.

Novel composite fading models were recently proposed based on inverse gamma distributed shadowing conditions. These models were extensively shown to provide remarkable modeling of the simultaneous occurrence of multipath fading and shadowing phenomena in emerging wireless scenarios such as cellular, off-body and vehicle-to-vehicle communications. Furthermore, the algebraic representation of these models is rather tractable, which renders them convenient to handle both analytically and numerically. Based on this, the present contribution analyzes the ergodic capacity over the recently proposed κ-μ/inverse gamma composite fading channels, which were shown to characterize excellently multipath fading and shadowing in line-of-sight communication scenarios, including realistic vehicular communications. Novel analytic expressions are derived which are subsequently used in the analysis of the corresponding system performance. In this context, the offered results are compared with respective results from cases assuming conventional fading conditions, which leads to the development of numerous insights on the effect of the multipath fading and shadowing severity on the achieved capacity levels. It is expected that these results will be useful in the design of timely and demanding wireless technologies such as wearable, cellular and inter-vehicular communications.
