More and more car manufactures are combining a normal combustion engine and an electric motor to satisfy the standards for CO2 emissions. In order to take advantage of this technology in the most efficient way, for example in companies car fleets, realistic simulation models are required. In this paper, we present an accurate yet computationally inexpensive energy demand model for the microscopic simulation of plug-in hybrid vehicles. Our model mostly consists of a combustion engine, an electric motor and, most importantly, a realistic engine management model. Furthermore, a pragmatic kinematic model as well as a model for recuperation of energy while breaking are provided. Modularly designed, our simulation model allows for simple replacement and adjustment of each module. As input values, our model only requires the vehicle's speed and a set of constant predefined parameters. Consequently, this also enables the model to be easily connected with current sophisticated traffic simulators. We show the correctness of our model regarding the consumption of fuel and electric energy using comprehensive real-world experiments.

Although the level of realism in vehicular network simulation is constantly increasing, antenna radiation patterns have only rarely entered the picture. In this paper we investigate the impact of these antenna patterns on the outcome of a city-wide simulation with hundreds of cars as well as an isolated intersection collision avoidance scenario. We show that in both cases pronounced differences can be observed: Compared to idealistic isotropic antennas, using realistic antennas changes the distribution of angle of arrival, affecting network topology dynamics. In collision avoidance applications, the antenna radiation pattern can make the difference between a crash and a successful emergency brake, strongly indicating that antenna characteristics should find more consideration in vehicular network simulation.

Existing privacy measures often conflict with the requirements of future vehicular networks. First and foremost, in attempting to achieve local privacy, they interfere with the primary purpose of vehicular networks: to improve road safety. Other solutions undermine accountability or introduce too high overhead to be of practical use. For this reason, proper privacy protection is disregarded in many field experiments, proposals, and standardization documents. In this paper, we take a structured approach to deriving a holistic solution for location privacy protection in Vehicular Ad-Hoc networks (VANETs): Under reasonable assumptions about an adversary's capability, local privacy is neither required nor can it be achieved without compromising traffic safety. Our approach is therefore based on synchronized time-slotted pseudonym pools and the local announcing of pseudonym changes. By this, we overcome the privacy-safety problem while at the same time increasing privacy for all users. Our system is fully compatible with the requirements of vehicular networks and current standardization efforts.

Elastic Optical Network (EON) architecture has been proposed as a promising technology for a new generation of OFDM networks. It is based on the concept that spectrum can be split into smaller slices than are used currently in the fixed-grid network. It allows better spectral utilization and support for bit rates over 100 Gb/s. EONs arise with the problem of routing and spectrum allocation (RSA). In this paper, we propose a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to solve the RSA problem with multicast flows. Different selection and crossover strategies are presented. Extensive numerical experiments are performed to select the most appropriate combination of operators and tuning parameters of the GA algorithm in the context of the RSA problem. Obtained results show that GA can be applicable.

3d Printers create an object by printing thousands of successive thin layers. Each layer is created by the printing tool which moves on the selected paths. The ability to reduce the total length of printing paths results in lower overall time needed for printing process. In this paper there are presented two hybrid algorithms for that purpose, Greedy Two Opt and Greedy Annealing. Both of them based on the same assumption that it is profitable to select initial solution with fast algorithm and after that, to try to improve it by further exploration of the solution space with the other one. The simulations made with the designed experimentation system confirmed good properties of the implemented algorithms.

In this paper, we propose a dual-CFA pattern for imaging system. Different from the conventional single CFA, the proposed dual-CFA imaging system has two advantages: first, compared with the single CFA pattern, the populated image based on the dual-CFA pattern has almost no artifacts on the edge and texture details; second, it greatly reduces the false color artifacts because more color information can be used when interpolating the missing color components; As compared with the latest demosaicking algorithms, experiments show that the proposed algorithm provides superior performance in terms of both objective and subjective image qualities.
