A compact antenna with ultra wideband characteristics is proposed which covers the dimension of 23 x 21 mm~2. It has a rectangular slotted patch with a circular slot, microstrip feed line and a tapered slot ground with a thickness of 1.6 mm which covers the inexpensive FR4 dielectric substrate. The proposed antenna covers a wider bandwidth of 10.1 GHz (2.90-12 GHz) with stable radiation pattern and constant gain which is ideal for UWB applications. The simulation is done with CST and HFSS simulator. The proposed antenna is low cost, compact in size and have good specifications which make it suitable for using UWB applications.

Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a new generation of biometric modality which has unique identity properties for human recognition. There are few studies on feature level fusion over short-term ECG signals for extracting non-fiducial features from autocorrelation of ECG windows with an identical length. In this paper, we provide an experimental study on fusion at feature extraction level by using autocorrelation method in conjunction with different dimensionality reduction techniques over vector sets with different window lengths from short and long-term two-lead ECG recordings. The results indicate that the window and recording lengths have significant effects on recognition rates of the fused ECG data sets.

A compact microstrip line fed tapered-shaped slotted ultra-wideband(UWB) antenna is presented. The new design is composed of a rectangular slotted patch with a compact size of 21.44 × 23.53 mm 2 and fed by microstrip transmission line of 50 Ω. The proposed antenna is simulated onto a less expensive FR4 substrate which has a height of 1.6 mm. There achieved a wider bandwidth of 8.51 GHz (3.49-12 GHz) with good impedance matching, constant gain, 5.76 dBi of maximum gain and stable radiation pattern results in the proposed antenna more appropriate for using UWB communication applications compared to existing antennas. The proposed antenna is designed and simulated in HFSS and CST Microwave Studio software to see the antenna performance.

In this paper, a new compact spectacles shaped patch UWB antenna using a microstrip fed line is proposed. The new design is consist of a spectacles shaped patch along with tapered slot ground *** proposed antenna has a compact electrical dimension of 0.24 λ × 0.21 λ × 0.016 λ and fed with a 50-ohm microstrip transmission line. computer Simulation Technology (CST) based on finite-difference time-domain method and High Frequency Structural Simulator (HFSS) based on finite element method is implemented in this research. In simulation, a wider frequency bandwidth of 8.5 GHz (3.0 - 11.5 GHz) with excellent impedance matching which covers entire UWB frequency, stable radiation pattern and constant gain is achieved. The proposed antenna is low profile, inexpensive and has excellent characteristics of UWB.

This paper develops a Jaya-based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method for photovoltaic (PV) arrays working under variable partial shading conditions. In practice, the Jaya is deployed in the inverter to obtain the optimal voltage setting for MPPT through an efficient iterative interaction with the PV system. A simulation study is conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in tracking the global maximum power point (GMPP) of PV arrays exposed to various partial shading patterns. The performance of the proposed method is benchmarked with PSO which is the most frequently utilized optimization algorithm for PV MPPT. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed method requires less iterations to converge to the GMPP and shows higher dynamical tracking efficiency than PSO methods.

This paper proposes a computationally universal two-dimensional square-lattice asynchronous cellular automaton, in which cells have merely two states. The transition rule of a cell is specified by the pattern of the cells or its rotation-symmetric or reflection-symmetric rules included in distances 1 and 2 Moore neighborhood, which does not include its own cell (inner-independent). In a former model, we defined only the rules where the neighboring patterns are taken into account in computation. In the current model, the transition rule is an open rule, which is defined completely in terms of updating 0 or 1. Universality of the model is proven through the construction of a glider and three circuit primitives on the cell space, which are universal for the class of Delay-Insensitive circuits. Correct operation of the circuit is proven through a validity check algorithm which checks all generated patterns from an initial configuration to a final configuration of the operation. As a result, the number of rules to update to 1 is found to be 1618, not including the rotation-symmetric and reflection-symmetric versions of the rules. We show how to determine the open rules of the model, and how to define the energy function to obtain an energy evolution during the operation of the circuit.

Replacing combustion vehicles with electric vehicles is a major step towards reducing CO_2 emissions. With regard to this shift, in particular commercial or governmental vehicle fleets are believed to be early adopters. However, the electrification of vehicle fleets is a complex task since it can have a huge impact on companies' day-to-day-business. This article presents a lightweight simulation framework to support the planning process and to study important effects of vehicle fleet electrification. Our discrete event-based approach allows to investigate economical and environmental aspects, such as the impact on operating costs, the required electric energy, or the amount of CO_2 emissions. Based on a given trip schedule (consisting of start time, distance, and duration), the framework allows deriving all necessary information, among others to dimension both the vehicle fleet and the charging infrastructure. We show the usefulness and the capability of our model by presenting results for a mid-sized company's vehicle fleet comprising 100 vehicles.

In this work we propose a sliding mode controller for in-hand manipulation that repositions a tool in the robot's hand by using gravity and controlling the slippage of the tool. In our approach, the robot holds the tool with a pinch grasp and we model the system as a link attached to the gripper via a passive revolute joint with friction, i.e., the grasp only affords rotational motions of the tool around a given axis of rotation. The robot controls the slippage by varying the opening between the fingers in order to allow the tool to move to the desired angular position following a reference trajectory. We show experimentally how the proposed controller achieves convergence to the desired tool orientation under variations of the tool's inertial parameters. © 2015 IEEE.

Automated car following, or platooning, is a promising Inter-Vehicle communication (IVC) application which has the potential of reducing traffic jams, improving safety, and decreasing fuel consumption by forming groups of vehicles which autonomously follow a common leader. The application works by sharing vehicles' data through high frequency periodic beaconing which, due to channel congestion, might not work in highly dense scenarios. To address this issue, in this paper we propose a dynamic approach called Jerk Beaconing which exploits vehicle dynamics to share data only when needed. The results, compared to a commonly assumed 10 Hz beaconing, show huge benefits in term of network resource saving. Moreover, our approach outperforms static beaconing in terms of safety as well, as it is able to keep inter-vehicle distance closer to the desired gap even in highly demanding scenarios.

Sometimes mental stress needs to be control as it results in different dangerous suffering. Timely mental stress detection can help to prevent stress related health problems. The aim of this paper is to design an IoT base wearable, cost effective and low power smart band for health care that detect mental stress based on skin conductance. This band can monitor user's mental stress continuously and transmit the stress related data wirelessly to user's smart phone. It not only help the users in better understanding their stress patterns but also provide the physician with reliable data for a much better treatment. Inputs to this device are various signals from different sensors. By intelligently analyzing the correlation between these signals using machine learning algorithm, this band predicts that whether the subject is suffering from stress or not.
