The increasing reliance on computers and the internet has increased the need for protection against attacks and security threats. A network-based intrusion detection system (NIDS) is one of the promising research fields that could highly contribute to cyber-Attacks detection and mitigation. Datasets are necessary for NIDS training and evaluation. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of publicly available NIDS datasets. The study covers the most used NIDS datasets, each dataset is briefly described along with its main properties and shortcomings. Moreover, the paper highlights the most important dataset characteristics and provides a clear datasets comparison accordingly. Finally, the paper discusses observations and provides some recommendations to help researchers identify future work. © 2022 IEEE.

Integrated Push-and-Pull Update Model for Goal-Oriented Effective communication

This paper studies decision-making for goal-oriented effective communication. We consider an end-to-end status update system where a sensing agent (SA) observes a source, generates and transmits updates to an actuation agent (AA), while the AA takes actions to accomplish a goal at the endpoint. We integrate the push- and pull-based update communication models to obtain a push-and-pull model, which allows the transmission controller at the SA to decide to push an update to the AA and the query controller at the AA to pull updates by raising queries at specific time instances. To gauge effectiveness, we utilize a grade of effectiveness (GoE) metric incorporating updates’ freshness, usefulness, and timeliness of actions as qualitative attributes. We then derive effect-aware policies to maximize the expected discounted sum of updates’ effectiveness subject to induced costs. The effect-aware policy at the SA considers the potential effectiveness of communicated updates at the endpoint, while at the AA, it accounts for the probabilistic evolution of the source and importance of generated updates. Our results show the proposed push-and-pull model outperforms models solely based on push- or pull-based updates both in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. Additionally, using effect-aware policies at both agents enhances effectiveness compared to periodic and/or probabilistic effect-agnostic policies at either or both agents. Intelligent Transportation systems (ITSs) increasingly rely on cloud computing to gather and process vehicular data, enabling the development of adaptable transportation solutions. However, the availability of such data is often limited by privacy, security, and commercial concerns, challenging the open research in ITS. Existing datasets rarely include both intra-vehicular data (created from or inside the vehicle) and extra-vehicular data (created from surrounding sources) or provide flexible scenarios for data extraction. This paper introduces a methodology to collect and publish ITS data, including intra and extra-vehicular sensor data. A quantitative analysis was conducted as part of the data characterization to show the associated data challenges. Moreover, the dataset collected is freely accessible, allowing innovation in ITS research and application development.

The sixth-generation (6G) wireless communication networks are envisioned to deliver improved Quality of Services (QoS) such as data-rate, latency, localization, etc., compared to 5G services. This demand will mainly arise due to the massive Internet of Things (IoT) connections among billions of embedded devices. It is worth noting that these IoT devices are constrained in nature in terms of memory, computation and most importantly power. Low-power wireless computing necessitates a link-layer technology that considers the aforementioned IoT device requirements such as low-power, low data-rate, long-range and energy efficient reliable communications. Long Range Radio (LoRa) technology has recently become widely popular to facilitate low-power, long-range communication, while other similar technologies struggle to achieve long-range transmissions. The LoRA standard defines several PHY and MAC sub-layer specifications for Low-Power Wide Area networks (LPWAN) that can be used to build several IoT applications. With 6G communications, an IoT application is expected to consist of hundreds of devices connected at a time, and this will need a proper scheduling mechanism among these devices for optimal performance. The LoRa standard does not define any scheduling mechanism and leaves it to the research community to explore. In this paper, we propose a distributed scheduling mechanism under the supervision of a common LoRa gateway. The proposed mechanism focuses on a Lightweight DynamicScheduling (LIDS) scheme to minimize loss in data transmissions through collisions. The proposed mechanism optimizes the power consumption to achieve the desired level of QoS requirements such as throughput and latency. © 2022 IEEE.

Future networks with well-developed Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) resources, where network nodes and distributed service instances can form a dense topology, face the challenge of distributing service data among many nodes. In particular, frequent data changes require an efficient update mechanism. System flexibility and user mobility, e.g, cellular hand-overs, or unpredictable service deployment or node changes, pose additional challenges. In this paper, a method is proposed and evaluated, how network graph-structured data can be distributed and synchronized between many nodes. The design considers especially the challenges of mobile networks with dynamic changes. At the example of a MEC scenario, the method is evaluated using a system-level simulation environment with fifth generation (5G) cellular communication, mobile as well as locally bound nodes, and dynamic service deployment changes. Network and computing resources are represented and shared using a graph. To gain deeper insight into the performance of our model, the time and bandwidth resources required to replicate graph updates to all clients in the 5G network are evaluated. Hereby, the impact of different background network traffic, of information-dependent graph update frequencies, and of the connectivity type can be shown. Finally, by implementing a practical example, the maintenance overhead for synchronizing the graph data to have a local information source is compared to the time required when querying remote information sources.

Digital watermarking of interactive media content has become an active experimentation field in recent years. In addition to reviewing some of the methods that have been developed for various media types;a general structure for watermark engrafting and identification is outlined. We highlight a few of these application-oriented differences, including copyright protection, substantiation, tamper identification, and data hiding, as well as the technological and system conditions for different media types such as digital photos, digital files, digital audio, and text. We describe a general structure for digital watermarking-based image copyright protection in this approach. In this paper, we outline the pre-processing and implementation of tide marking technique where Twofish algorithm and double encryption is described. The image processing toolbox is also specified by comparing five different image processing techniques. In addition, the post implementation is carried out with the wavelet toolbox and matlab coder to analyze signal, image properties and generate the efficient code for embedding the text. © 2024 IEEE.

The absence of an independent learning platform to address femoral shaft fractures poses challenges in understanding and classifying these fractures. The existing anatomy platforms, such as 3D interactive anatomical atlases, are insufficient in providing comprehensive information on the fractures and the high cost of these interactive anatomical atlases can be a barrier for learning to proceed due to the needs of the actual bones and human models. This study aims to develop an accessible, cost-effective educational 3D mobile application that caters to the learning needs associated with human femoral shaft fractures. Although femoral fractures are relatively uncommon, the increased cases of fractures necessitate awareness and preparedness among individuals as well as medical professionals. The proposed mobile application will enhance users' understanding of anatomical structures in femoral shaft fractures and contribute to improved patient care as well as enhance medical education. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper delves into the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) in revolutionizing business intelligence and inventory management through semantic parsing and text-to-SQL methodologies. It assesses various LLM models, such as DIN-SQL, DSP, NSQL, GPT, CoPilot, and LLaMa, elucidating their capabilities and contributions. Two critical analyses are presented here. The first compares cutting-edge LLM models using cosine similarity and cost efficiency metrics. The second analysis enhances GPT's precision through prompt engineerings, like few-shot techniques, and explores frameworks like DIN-SQL, NSQL, and DSP. DIN-SQL substantially boosts accuracy, and NSQL demonstrates potential in specific scenarios. This research underscores the transformative potential of LLM-driven models in business intelligence and inventory management. DIN-SQL, in particular, emerges as a game-changer with the potential to reshape inventory management practices. GPT showcases its versatility through fine-tuning for tasks beyond conventional programming, while CoPilot offers a cost-effective alternative. This study emphasizes the importance of cost-effectiveness in real-world applications, with LLaMa and CoPilot being practical choices. NSQL, with its budget-friendly and semi-accurate solution, holds promise for semantic parsing in growing companies. These insights are a foundation for further innovation, promising unmatched efficiency and competitiveness across industries in the evolving Artificial intelligence landscape. © 2023 IEEE.

Harmonizing open banking in the European Union: an analysis of PSD2 compliance and interrelation with cybersecurity frameworks and standards

This paper focuses on the security protocols enacted in banking transactions across the European Economic Area (EEA), as stipulated by the Second or Revised Payment Service Directive (commonly referred to as ‘PSD2’ or simply ‘the Directive’). The study aims to comprehensively analyse the implementation and efficacy of these security measures within the specified jurisdiction. The Directive incorporates fundamental rights and obligations that all stakeholders are compelled to adhere to and delineates specific security measures and standards that both traditional banking institutions and third-party providers (TPP) are mandated to implement. In particular, one of the cardinal mandates for banking and financial institutions under PSD2 is the obligation to facilitate third-party access to customer data via open application programming interfaces (API). While this open banking paradigm and the consequent proliferation of data sharing unquestionably bring about various advantages, such as enhanced consumer choice and market competition, they concurrently expose the financial ecosystem to a slew of potential security vulnerabilities and privacy risks. Upon conducting a comprehensive review of the security requirements and measures stipulated under PSD2 and a comparative analysis with essential cybersecurity frameworks and standards (NIS2, Cybersecurity Act, GDPR, ISO 27001:22 and PCI DSS), we have ascertained a discernible lack of harmonisation and clarity concerning the technical security specifications for its effective implementation. This lacuna substantiates the challenges banks face in fully grasping the extensive spectrum of compliance obligations mandated by PSD2. The aim of this research is to offer a valuable contribution to both the comprehension and the pragmatic deployment of security standards in the context of banking transactions, as regulated by the PSD2. Various needs for specific professional knowledge manifest different levels of perseverance in students to complete the educational process from the start to its logical end. This process is a key feature of any learning format. These arguments determine the relevance to investigate the process of self-regulation in educational activity. The purpose of the work is to build the models that characterize self-regulation of the student’s cognitive activity and involvement in knowledge acquisition. To achieve the purpose, the following tasks are to be solved. 1. Review of scientific publications. 2. Building graphical and cognitive models of the problem under study. 3. Analysis of models using statistical and IT approach. 4. Formulation of conclusions. Statistical analysis shows that the level of self-regulation of behavior among the students in the city of Bishkek is higher than among the students in the city of Omsk. As for the level of self-regulation of educational activities, it is higher among the students in Omsk than among the students in Bishkek. As a result, it is found that the factors "motivation" of the student learning activity and the factor "flexibility" in actions are decisive for the investigation of the phenomenon. The results of q-connectivity show that the vertices of the graph of a cognitive model with high-dimensional simplexes are these factors. The obtained results are recommended to specialists in the field of pedagogical science to manage the educational system as a whole. © 2024 IEEE.
