This paper is about the performance of range queries on historic web page data set, i.e. requests into a data set of web pages that keeps record of historic versions of HTML data of URLs on the web for a subset of data, the URLs and the timestamps of which satisfy the query conditions. To keep track of all versions of every web URL, the data set could easily scale up to terabytes. Hence, systems providing query services to such a data set would require much computing resource. We show that in this scenario data storage layout has significant impact on query performance and propose storage design principles for performance improvement through quantitative approaches.

Community Health Information Tracking System using Short Message Service (chitSMS) is an extension of CHITS which is a system that stores health records of patients in the barangay. Another project incorporated a mobile component in CHITS, enabling the health worker to visit the patient, do routine check-ups and medical services, and update CHITS when the health worker returns to the health center. Without a remote connection, however, the health worker has to return frequently to the usually distant health center to update the CHITS database with the data gathered from the field consult. chitSMS addresses this by using SMS as a mode of remote data transfer. It ensures the reliable transmission of the data by implementing a modified selective repeat protocol. Furthermore, it performs the Deflate algorithm for compression of the data being sent to minimize the cost.

Cooperative awareness is established by vehicles exchanging their status frequently. In situations where a high number of vehicles access the communication channel with high frequency, communication and cooperative awareness suffer from increased packet loss. So far, forwarding of beacons focuses on extending the range of V2V communication which is not necessarily needed in most scenarios. In this paper, we motivate selective beacon forwarding to improve the reliability of cooperative awareness in high load situations. We define a metric to measure the quality of cooperative awareness and compare different static beacon rates by a simulation study. Especially in high load situations, we evaluate selective forwarding of beacons to overcome the awareness degradation due to interference, leading to packet loss even at short distances. We show that our approach causes only slight overhead in terms of additional messages and that the age of forwarded information is less than half the beacon interval.

A fundamental problem about Ad-hoc network emulation is how to emulate a wireless multi-hop network scenario in a fixed testbed, which, however, is scarcely discussed in depth by existing radio frequency (RF)control wireless network emulators. Therefore, in this article, we first formulate the wireless multi-hop scenario emulation problem based on RF-control, take controlling the maximal error as the solution mentality, and present an algorithm called the matching exact-solution condition algorithm. The experiment results show that the algorithm can solve the wireless multi-hop network scenario emulation problem and maximal error can be achieved.
