Cooperative awareness is established by vehicles exchanging their status frequently. In situations where a high number of vehicles access the communication channel with high frequency, communication and cooperative awareness suffer from increased packet loss. So far, forwarding of beacons focuses on extending the range of V2V communication which is not necessarily needed in most scenarios. In this paper, we motivate selective beacon forwarding to improve the reliability of cooperative awareness in high load situations. We define a metric to measure the quality of cooperative awareness and compare different static beacon rates by a simulation study. Especially in high load situations, we evaluate selective forwarding of beacons to overcome the awareness degradation due to interference, leading to packet loss even at short distances. We show that our approach causes only slight overhead in terms of additional messages and that the age of forwarded information is less than half the beacon interval.

Cloud computing is a groundbreaking solution to acquire computational resources on demand. To deliver high quality cloud services and provide features such as reduced costs and availability to customers, a cloud, like any other computational system, needs to be properly managed in accordance with its characteristics (e.g., scalability, elasticity, timeliness). In this scenario, cloud monitoring is a key to achieve it. To properly work, cloud monitoring systems need to meet several requirements such as scalability, accuracy, and timeliness. This paper aims to unveil the trade-off between timeliness and scalability. Evaluations demonstrate the mutual influence between scalability and timeliness based on monitoring parameters (e.g., monitoring topologies, frequency sampling). Results show that non-deep monitoring topologies and decreasing the frequency sampling assist to reduce the mutual influence between timeliness and scalability.

Federated Learning (FL) allows multiple clients to collaboratively train machine learning models without the need to share their local private data. As a result, it can effectively address the issue of data fragmentation. Nevertheless, insufficient evaluation of individual contributions and the lack of protections for both the intellectual property rights (IPR) of models and client privacy can greatly reduce clients' motivations in federated training. To address these challenges, this paper introduces the Traceable Contribution Evaluation and Model Ownership Protection (TraCemop) framework for federated learning, which allows each client to swiftly assess the contributions of others in each round, with integrated support for the traceability of evaluation results. To safeguard the intellectual property of models, a collective watermark is embedded in the global model. Additionally, a secure mechanism for verifying model ownership is also available in case of disputes. Security analysis indicates that TraCemop is capable of resisting data reconstruction attacks as well as various types of model copyright infringements. Finally, we evaluate the proposed framework using two commonly-used datasets, and the experimental results show a significant improvement in the efficiency of contribution evaluation compared to existing methods. Meanwhile, IPR infringement tests on TraCemop reveal that the proposed framework is resilient against malicious efforts to monopolize model ownership. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Zero-touch network is anticipated to inaugurate the generation of intelligent and highly flexible resource provisioning strategies where multiple service providers collaboratively offer computation and storage resources. This transformation presents substantial challenges to network administration and service providers regarding sustainability and scalability. This article combines distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI) with Zero-touch Provisioning (ZTP) for edge networks. This combination helps to manage network devices seamlessly and intelligently by minimizing human intervention. In addition, several advantages are also highlighted that come with incorporating distributed AI into ZTP in the context of edge networks. He is currently working on the development of satellite-based ATM transport and switching architectures for BISDN and Defense Information System Network amlications. Dr. Pond is a member of IEEE. Victor O. K. Li was born in Hong Kong in 1954. He received his SB SM and Sc.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Cambridge Massachusetts in 1977 1979 and 1981 respectively. Since February 1981 he has been with the University of Southern California (USC) LOS Angeles California where he is Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of the USC Communication Sciences Institute. He has published 150 technical papers and has lectured and consulted extensively around the world. His research interests include high-speed communication networks personal communication networks intelligent networks distributed databases queueing theory graph theory and applied probability. Dr. Li is very active in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) having been a member of the Computer Communications Technical Committee since 1983 and having served as Chairman from 1987–1989. In this, the second part of a two-part paper, the required time for establishing a mobile packet radio network using the virtual circuit and time division multiple access protocol developed in Part 1 is analysed. Tools are developed to determine the virtual circuit and network set-up times in terms of the channel bandwidth allocated to establish and maintain the network. The tools are then extended to include the effects of user mobility. Then these results are combined with the network capacity results of Part 1 to analyse the trade-off between the data rate and set-up time of the network. Next a hierarchical architecture is proposed and the network data rate versus set-up time trade-off of this architecture is analysed using these tools. This architecture is shown to both provide a higher data rate and establish faster than flat networks of the same number of nodes.
