The overwhelming acceptance of social media creates opportunities to learn about facts and events that are echoed in posts, tweets and messages uploaded by users. Analysis of these data can lead to interesting observations and conclusions. Of special importance are aspects related to temporal and dynamic nature of these findings. This paper presents a simple fuzzy-based approach of pre-processing and analyzing Twitter hashtags. The obtained fuzzy clusters are further examined in order to gain insight related to temporal trends and patterns of hashtags' popularity.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) when combined with various energy harvesting solutions managing to prolong the overall lifetime of the system and enhanced capabilities of the communication protocols used by modern sensor nodes are efficiently used in are efficiently used in Smart Grid (SG), an evolutionary system for the modernization of existing power grids. However, wireless communication technology brings various types of security threats. In this study, firstly the use of WSNs for SG applications is presented. Second, the security related issues and challenges as well as the security threats are presented. In addition, proposed security mechanisms for WSN-based SG applications are discussed. Finally, an easy- to-implement and simple attack detection framework to prevent attacks directed to sink and gateway nodes with web interfaces is proposed and its efficiency is proved using a case study.

Water is the key component of life on planet Earth. Although most of the Earth's surface is covered by water only a very small percentage of it is drinkable "fresh water." Drinkable water quality is influenced by several factors, like the construction of dams and embankments, the irrigation practices, and the anthropogenic activities. In order to control water quality, it is essential to understand the sources of pollutants by frequent water quality monitoring. Conventional monitoring of water quality calls for the collection of large numbers of samples and long delays until the results are available. Therefore, rapid monitoring of water quality is very important, proven by the large number of systems proposed for this kind of automatic monitoring. In this work, we propose a wireless sensor network (WSN)-based monitoring system controlled by a web-based online interface which allows the remote water quality monitoring via Internet. This brings advantages over traditional monitoring systems in terms of cost effectiveness, portability and applicability. Simulation-based studies concerning the wireless network aspects, as well as the practical output of the proposed system are presented for the evaluation of its effectiveness.

The popularity of virtual worlds has increased in recent years, as they have begun to feature a three-dimensional (3D) environment, avatars, and synchronous and asynchrounous communication. However, to successfully use virtual world platforms in different disciplines, certain limitations and potential difficulties of these platforms must be overcome. The purpose of this study was both to determine technical problems encountered by practitioners and designers who create environments in 3D virtual worlds and to suggest solutions for these problems. In the study, designers experimented with two different 3D virtual world platforms for one year, to design and create learning environments. The case study method was used as a research model. To collect the research data, interview records and documents in which the designers and practitioners noted problems that they encountered were used. The results indicate that the technical problems influenced the pedagogical effectiveness of the environments. Our findings should be beneficial both to virtual world designers and to users who wish to use these environments in different fields.

This paper presents an automatic parallelization approach for handling complex task systems with heavy dependencies, including methods of analyzing dependencies, representing them in a convenient way, and processing the resulting task graph representation. We present a library-based task system representation, clustering, profiling, and scheduling approach to simplify the otherwise tedious process of parallelizing complex task systems. We have implemented a flexible and robust task system handling library to manipulate and parallelize these complex task systems on shared memory multi-core and multi-processor systems. The implementation has been developed as part of the OpenModelica simulation environment. We demonstrate methods of extracting and utilizing parallelism in the context of mathematical modeling languages. Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

This paper explores the study of multi-choice multi-objective transportation problem (MCMTP) under the environment of utility function approach. MCMTP is converted to multi-objective transportation problems (MOTP) by transforming the multi-choice parameters like cost, demand, and supply to real-valued parameters. A general transformation procedure using binary variables is illustrated to reduce MCMTP into MOTP. Most of the MOTP are solved by goal programming (GP) approach. Using GP, the solution of MOTP may not be satisfied all the time by the decision maker (DM) when the proposed problem contains interval-valued aspiration level. To overcome this difficulty, here we propose the approaches of revised multi-choice goal programming (RMCGP) and utility function into the MOTP and then compared the solution between them. Finally, numerical examples are presented to show the feasibility and usefulness of our paper.
