INNOVATIONS IN computer-AIDED-DESIGN OF MARINE TURBINES USING INTERACTIVE GRAPHICS

His early assignments were with the General Engineering Laboratory and the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in Schenectady. N. Y. He joined the Marine Turbine and Gear Department in 1968 as Manager Engineering Administration. and assumed his present assignment as Manager Engineering Resource Planning & Administration in 1976. Mr. Gingrich was instrumental in procuring the Interactive Graphics System for the Medium Steam Department. having headed up the Study Team and is now responsible for the Interactive Graphics Systems management including new procurements. He is a member of the American Institute of Design Drafting and is currently the Chairman of the Computer-Aided Drafting Committee in that organization. Mr. Reinhold L. Winter is a graduate of the General Electric Apprentice Program and Salem State College from which he received his B.S. degree in Business Administration. He has nineteen years experience with the General Electric Company including eight years in Business Systems and Programming two years in Computer Operations Management and six years in his present position as Manager Engineering Business Systems. He was a member of the original Study Team that investigated and selected the present Applicon Interactive Graphics (IAG) equipment and currently is responsible for the management of software and hardware support for the ZAG Facility.

This paper discusses the Interactive Graphics System used by the General Electric Company, Medium Steam Turbine department (Engineering & Manufacturing) for designing, drafting, and manufacturing applications. A brief overview of the hardware malting up the system is described, followed by a more detailed description of the actual applications. Two-dimensional applications described include a Heat Balance Analysis, Flow Diagrams, and Electrical Schematics. A more fruitful area for increased productivity gains is described in the three-dimensional or mechanical applications including turbine design & layout and bucket design. coordination of the design with manufacturing for numerical control tape generation is described through CAM and Plate Frame Cutting applications. Finally, a short review of the engineering design work using Interactive Graphics is discussed. Productivity gains of 2.6 to 1 are being realized, and the overall savings to the Medium Steam department are outlined.

McK. while the writing up of this paper represents a joint effort between the two authors. In its original form the work was a term project of W. R. McK. for a course on List Processing Techniques given by N. V. F.

The present work is an exercise to generate complex, inter-related data structures from the simplest possible information source. The organization of the memory is such that updating and retrieval processes are easy to perform. To demonstrate the capabilities of the program, the first fifteen chapters of Robert Graves: The Greek Myths , Volume I were used as data source. One of the interesting results is that, in spite of the rather free mating pattern of the divine participants, Zeus and Aphrodite adhered to a Platonic relationship. Another is that Rhea is Cronus' sister, wife, grand-aunt and daughter-in-law's mother at the same time. The program, written in IPL-V in its present form, can accept a maximum of 500 separate individuals and will process an unlimited number of inquiries in one particular run. Non- perfect information is appropriately treated. Finally, possible extensions are briefly described.

This research is aimed at improving electric power supply reliability at major industrial plants by applying schematic design solutions. The authors analyzed the features of branch electric power distribution systems at a metallurgical plant; considered options of their revamping to improve reliability of electric power supply; carried out experimental research on splitting 110 kV meshed system at the integrated iron and steel works. When performing the research, mathematical simulation methods and full-scale experiment methods were used. Following the research, we proposed three options to revamp the power grid at the industrial plant applying schematic design solutions: Scheme A - separating substations, causing problems, in an individual block; Scheme B - separating independent 110 kV closed electric power grids; Scheme C – splitting the meshed system into two independent circuits. It is proved that the most efficient solution is Scheme C, which is characterized by a lower number of unscheduled downtimes of the facilities by mitigating the effects of faults in one of meshed systems on a continuous operation of shops powered from the neighboring grid; eliminated risks of simultaneous stops of all or the majority of metallurgical shops of the works during short circuits in 110 kV grids; and a considerable reduction in short circuit currents and active losses in 110 kV industrial grids. An aggregate benefit from the proposed measures aimed at revamping of the electrical grid of metallurgical units by applying schematic design solutions is over USD750,000/year.

The SCIP Optimization Suite provides a collection of software packages for mathematical optimization centered around the constraint integer programming framework SCIP. This paper discusses enhancements and extensions contained in version 8.0 of the SCIP Optimization Suite. Major updates in SCIP include improvements in symmetry handling and decomposition algorithms, new cutting planes, a new plugin type for cut selection, and a complete rework of the way nonlinear constraints are handled. Additionally, SCIP 8.0 now supports interfaces for Julia as well as Matlab. Further, UG now includes a unified framework to parallelize all solvers, a utility to analyze computational experiments has been added to GCG, dual solutions can be postsolved by PaPILO, new heuristics and presolving methods were added to SCIP-SDP, and additional problem classes and major performance improvements are available in *** Codes 90C05, 90C10, 90C11, 90C30, 90C90, 65Y05 Copyright © 2021, The Authors. The SCIP Optimization Suite provides a collection of software packages for mathematical optimization centered around the constraint integer programming framework SCIP. The focus of this paper is on the role of the SCIP Optimization Suite in supporting research. SCIP's main design principles are discussed, followed by a presentation of the latest performance improvements and developments in version 8.0, which serve both as examples of SCIP's application as a research tool and as a platform for further developments. Axial piston pumps are the most widely used pumps in hydraulic actuation systems. Their technical characteristics make them the best option for most applications starting from industrial machine tools, up to mobile equipments. Thus, the optimization of their functional parameters and their control within the system is of great importance [1], [4]. The paper presents the construction of a modular measuring and control head (developed by the authors) mounted directly on the pump which ensures the automated achievement of any type of control: flow, pressure, power or their combinations. 作者： CAMPBELL, JS THE AUTHOR was born in Porterville. Calif. in 1928 and joined the U.S. Nary in 1945 in the “Aviation Midshipman” Program. He received his designation as a Naval Aviator in 1950 and flew combat missions in Korea while still a Midshipman followed by participation in various operational and training squadrons until 1958 when he completed the Naval Test Pilot School Program. After a tour as an Engineering Test Pilot. he attended the Naval Postgraduate School Monterey. Calif. and was then assigned to the Fleet Computer Programming Center as a part of the NTDS development. Later he had operational tours as CIC Officer in the USS Enterprise and as AAW Officer on the Staff of Commander Task Force SEVENTY-SEVEN in Vietnam. During an interceding tour of duty he was the Program Manager for the TACDEW Training Facilities at San Diego Calif: and Dam Neck Va. After completing his active duty in the U.S. Navy Mr. Campbell joined Logicon Inc. and during the six years with the Tactical and Training Systems Division held various positions including Project Manager Department Head Assistant Director and Division Director prior to leaving in 1976 to join the Assistant Secretary of the Nary for R&D as Special Assistant for Weapons Systems Integration. In 1978 he joined the Staff at the Naval Ocean Systems Center as Associate Director for Command Control and Communications and Acting Head of the C3I Systems Department where he is charged with the development and operation of the C3Systems Integration Test and Evaluation Laboratory.

The increasingly important role of land-based test sites (LBTSs) in military command, control, and communications (C 3 ) is discussed, with particular reference to system integration, R&D, and testing. The LBTS at the Naval Ocean Systems Center (NOSC), San Diego, is described in detail, and lessons learned from the operation of the and other LBTSe are considered in terms of both their tactical and strategic implications.

The environment's protection is one of the most actual problems, because of the fact that pollution is a major danger for planet life. The environment's pollution is caused because some pollution agents are in too large a quantity for a long time and they become dangerous for human health, for the flora, for the fauna and for the constructions too. The pollution sources can be classified as natural and artificial sources. The quality of the environment from a specific area at a certain time can be determined by: a) the air quality; b) the water quality; c) the soil quality; d) the health level of the population; e) the decrease of animals and plants species that are accounted for. In the paper there are given the urban traffic on the principal routes inside the Cluj‐Napoca municipality. The traffic is the constituent part of the research activity of the national project having the destination the monitoring of the noise and vibrations into an urban agglomeration, applied to the Cluj ‐ Napoca town. This study is the first step for the "noise map" asked for by the Romania integration in the European Union for the team researchers of TUCN under the the direction of Dr. Mariana Arghir.
