Integrating electrophysiological signals in larger systems is getting wider due to the fact that such modalities facilitate the daily tasks of users. However, the high cost of monitoring systems (e.g., oscilloscopes) limits the testing and analysis of the acquired signal from such noisy systems (i. e., electrophysiological devices). The proposed system is a part of a larger proj ect that deals with the identification of sign language movements through the use of Muscle-computer Interfaces. On one hand, the user is able to display the signal acquired by the electrodes on an LCD screen. On the other hand, the system helps a mute patient to issue a special message to his surrounding environment that does not know the sign language to ask for help. The second feature is not unique, as it can be replaced by any other application based on the user's needs. The system was tested on several persons, and the results are promising. © 2022 IEEE.

For several years, traffic congestion has been a major problem in big cities where the number of cars and different means of transportation has been increasing significantly. The problem of congestion is becoming more and more critical, and if not treated smartly this issue will negatively affect drivers by wasting time and fuel gas while waiting for hours in lanes. This paper presents a new and smart way to mitigate this issue in an affordable cost, minimum processing power, and low power consumption. This concept takes into consideration the majority of the cases that may cause congestion and presents a smart and accurate outputs to ease traffic flow leading to the prediction of the peak hours of traffic congestion for smarter control. A model is designed to study the case of a four lanes crossroad with two traffic lights and two LCD monitors. The strategy in reading data is divided into two parts: real data from sensors and pre collected data from google maps to create a kind of a predicted pattern over a certain time interval. The responsiveness of the system is analyzed thoroughly, and the accuracy of all possible cases is carefully considered and evaluated. Each part of the system was tested alone, and the overall system is still in an ongoing testing phase. The results have shown minimum faulty errors and accepted outputs that can lead to safe traffic control decisions. Finally, integrating more IoT devices and sensors between V2V, V2P, V2I with the help of artificial intelligence will definitely optimize this system with higher accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

To estimate the measure of proximity and distance in various tasks (clustering, classification, etc.), one of the most common ways to represent information about objects is a binary indications vector. At the same time, to estimate the measure of proximity, a sufficiently large number of relationships are used that describe binary indicators of similarity and distance between objects with qualitative characteristics. At the same time, during the real functioning of objects, their characteristics can change over time, which can lead to uncertainties when comparing binary vectors of qualitative indications that describe these objects. Therefore, it is advisable to use many-valued logics that can take into account such uncertainties. The paper describes approaches to the application of such logics, and also considers their modifications to determine the measures of proximity and distances for objects whose characteristics are described by vectors using many-valued logics under uncertainty. © 2022 IEEE.

Lithium-ion battery production is generally geared towards current demand from the main sectors: electric vehicles, consumer electronics, and energy storage. These sectors typically require the batteries to be as fresh as possible to ensure maximum lifespan and performance. Still, sometimes manufacturers work with buffer stocks and deliver batteries from different production series. In this context, the present paper examines stored batteries' capacity loss, employing an exhaustive statistical study. This study aims to establish if the capacity loss is statistically significant and can lead to battery pack unbalances. © 2023 IEEE.

For decades, speed sensors based on the spatial frequency filter method have successfully proven themselves in a wide range of applications. This makes the sensor concept particularly suitable for the area of functional safety. New filter variants extend the previous measuring range to very low speeds up to standstill detection. By combining the sensor with a safety system on chip for recording and analysing measured values, a functionally safe measuring chain can be established. In order to demonstrate the variability and performance of the new filters, an optical application-specific integrated circuit was designed, which forms the basis for further extensive tests. The core components are a large number of freely configurable photodiode channels, which were realised via a redundant structure, as well as two different transimpedance amplifier concepts. In the further course of the project, the ASIC will be analysed with regard to its desired performance parameters and its robustness.

The reliable operation of today's complex technical systems often relies on remote software solutions for predicting their performance. To solve these tasks, client-server architectures, based on the database server, used to store the obtained data, as well as server-based data analyzers are taken advantage of. Due to the increasing complexity of tasks of diagnosing the state of complex technical systems, associated with the generation of higher volumes of data for assessing the current state of the diagnostic objects, the use of classical relational storage resulted in a significant increase in the requirements for cluster architectures. With the increasing use of technological solutions based on the 'Big Data' architecture, there is a contradiction associated with the need to store large amounts of unstructured data for further structuring by methods of database schema development. The mission of Data Mining is the implementation of search operations applied to the laws of behavior and overall functioning of the system under study, consisting of numerical data. An obligatory condition that arises when using Data Mining methodologies is to interpret the resulting patterns formed as a consequence of determining the practical utility of the data. In this regard, there is a need to develop a method for optimizing large amounts of data, especially in partially defined tasks, allowing the distribution of the readings of the state of complex technical systems. Thus, the paper considers the problem of objective function approximation by the linear functional in a partially defined optimization problem, when the objective function is partially defined by comparing its values on some set of vectors from the acceptance region. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the approximating linear functional and the method of recovery of its coefficients through a linear correction procedure are formulated. © 2022 IEEE.

Background: In this Innovative Practice Work in Progress, we present our initial efforts to integrate formal methods, with a focus on model-checking specifications written in Temporal Logic of Actions (TLA+), into computer science education, targeting undergraduate juniors/seniors and graduate students. Many safety-critical systems and services crucially depend on correct and reliable behavior. Formal methods can play a key role in ensuring correct and safe system behavior, yet remain underutilized in educational and industry contexts. Aims: We aim to (1) qualitatively assess the state of formal methods in computer science programs, (2) construct level-appropriate examples that could be included midway into one’s undergraduate studies, (3) demonstrate how to address successive "failures" through progressively stringent safety and liveness requirements, and (4) establish an ongoing framework for assessing interest and relevance among students. Methods: We detail our pedagogical strategy for embedding TLA+ into an intermediate course on formal methods at our institution. After starting with a refresher on mathematical logic, students specify the rules of simple puzzles in TLA+ and use its included model checker (known as TLC) to find a solution. We gradually escalate to more complex, dynamic, event-driven systems, such as the control logic of a microwave oven, where students will study safety and liveness requirements. We subsequently discuss explicit concurrency, along with thread safety and deadlock avoidance, by modeling bounded counters and buffers. Results: Our initial findings suggest that through careful curricular design and choice of examples and tools, it is possible to inspire and cultivate a new generation of software engineers proficient in formal methods. Conclusions: Our initial efforts suggest that 84% of our students had a positive experience in our formal methods course. We present an OCR tool developed for printed Ottoman documents in naksh font as part of a project named End-to-End Conversion of Ottoman Documents to Modern Turkish This tool uses a deep learning model trained with a data set containing original and synthetic documents. We conducted an experimental comparison of this tool named *** with Tesseract Arabic, Tesseract Persian, Abby Finereader, Miletos and Google Docs OCR tools (or models) using a test data set comprised of 21 pages of original documents. With 88, 64% raw, 95, 92% normalized and 97, 18% joined character recognition accuracy rates, *** outperformed the other tools with a marked difference. *** also achieved 58% word recognition accuracy which is the only rate over 50% among the OCR tools compared. We shared the test data set, ground truth, OCR outputs and the test program written in Python using difflib at ***/test for independent verification. © 2021 IEEE.

Visually impaired people encounter several challenges in their mobility and navigation. Their daily activities are obstructed due to their inability to adapt or recognize accurately their surroundings, especially outside their house which they are more familiar with. Thus, it becomes the main reason of accidents, falling off, getting lost in unknown areas, etc. Furthermore, one of the sensory systems that helps the body to process data about the external environment is the visual system. Blind people also lose touch with the outside world, develops poor motor habits, which results in postural problems as a result. This project will assist visually impaired people in their daily life and simplify normal tasks through a system combining two previously designed projects, 'Smart Shoes for Blind and Visually Impaired People', and 'Human posture monitoring device'. The multifunctional system is developed with the goal of securing safe movements for visually impaired people as well as maintaining a good back posture by detecting leaning postures (LP). The purpose of the smart shoe is to identify obstacles and protect the user from unintended accidents. A compatible Android application has been developed to alert the user when there is an obstruction or when he is walking on a wet surface. Voice alarms will be used to acoustically alert the user. If the user collapses, a message with their position will be sent right away to a relative. On the other hand, the smart vest will identify the position of the user's back and alert him to maintain a straight posture through the same application as well. As the system is dealing with human health, some safety measurements would be taken into consideration to implement a safe electrical system in order to reduce error and to increase accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

In general, failure data is obtained in the automotive industry during the warranty period. If these contain the expression of a service life characteristic for each failure, statements can be made about the reliability and availability of the systems. For this purpose, estimation methods are used to adapt empirical lifetime distributions to theoretical lifetime distributions. By means of the distribution characteristics, a prognosis of the reliability and availability to be expected is also possible beyond the observation time. In addition to the data basis to be investigated, which is available completely in test bench and experimental trials or re-censored in the field, various methods can be used for estimation. In the past, several methods have been used, such as the estimators according to Eckel [1], Kaplan-Meier [2] or the estimators according to Pauli [3]. In general, a field failure is subject to several stresses, which can be described by expressions of several lifetime characteristics. For this application case, which occurs in the automotive industry, the known estimation methods, [1]-[3], cannot be used. In this paper, the necessity of multidimensional estimation methods will be introduced first. Then, a new estimation method for multidimensional metrics is presented. In a further step, mathematical proof is given that the new method can provide realistic results. Finally, two example data sets from bench testing and field are presented. Furthermore, some recommendations for the use of the new method are concretized in this context. © 2023 IEEE.
