Adder is a complex digital circuit because of its interconnectivity, which hinders fault detection and localization. This paper compares two approaches of fault localization in adders based on carry-free addition using signed digits (SD) representation and localized self-checking-full adders for ripple carry adders (RCA). The self-repairing SD adder approach requires computation with standard and shifted inputs toward left and right for fault localization. The resulting complexity caused by the shifting operation is unnecessary for the self-repairing RCA, which simultaneously achieves fault detection and localization. Moreover, the centralized checking mechanism of the SD adder results in system failure if the checker becomes faulty. However, in the case of self-repairing RCA, the failure of individual full adders will not create problems in the self-checking ability of other full adders owing to the distributed fault detection mechanism. It has been observed that the self-checking RCA implemented in FPGA is $\mathbf{6 2 \%}$ more area efficient than the self-checking signed digit adder in terms of LUTs.

Recent breakthroughs in computer vision have led to the invention of several intelligent systems in different sectors. In transportation, this advancement led to the possibility of proposing autonomous vehicles. This recent technology relies heavily on wireless sensors and Deep learning. For an autonomous vehicle to navigate safely on highways, the vehicle needs equipment to aid with detecting road anomalies such as potholes ahead of time. The massive improvement in computer vision models such as Deep Convolutional Neural networks (DCNN) or vision transformers (ViT) resulted in many success stories and tremendous breakthroughs in object detection tasks;this enabled the use of such models in different application areas. But many of the reported results are theoretical and unrealistic in real-life. Usually, the nature of these models is extensive;they are trained on High-performance computers or cloud computing environments with GPUs, which challenge their usage on edge devices. However, to come up with a light model that can fit into embedded devices, the model size has to be reduced significantly so that the performance will not be affected. Therefore, this paper proposes a lightweight model of pothole detection for an embedded device. The model achieved a state-of-the-art accuracy of 98%, with the number of parameters reduced to more than 70% compared with a deep CNN model;the model can be trained and deployed on embedded devices such as smartphones efficiently. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press. Owing to the major development of social media platforms, the usage of technological adaptation increases by means of editing software tools. Posting media in social communication environments has become one of our common daily routines. Before posting, various editing generators are used to manipulate pixel values, such as for enhancing brightness and contrast. Undoubtedly, this software helps bring posting media from ordinary to outstanding. But such a type of editing crosses the line in terms of creating fakes—anything that comes from anywhere and does not retain its originality anyway. It poses a series of issues in the process of multimedia forensics investigation and chain of custody. In order to restrict the attempts at deep faking and make the investigation hierarchy more effective, efficient, and reliable in the socio-cyber space (SCS), this paper presents a novel framework called DF-SCW. A digital forensics-enabled socio-cyber world with artificial intelligence (AI), especially deep neural networks (DNNs), for detecting and analyzing deep fake media investigations on social media platforms. It compares pixels with their neighboring values in the same media (such as images and videos) to identify information about the original one. There is a media flag designed to filter out malicious and dangerous attempts, like a powerful leader declaring war. Putting flags on such fakes helps digital investigators resist sharing the posts. In addition, the other prospect of this research is to make the digital forensics ecosystem more appropriate to take qualitative judgments in real-time while media is uploaded on social media platforms. The simulation of the proposed DF-SCW is tested on three different platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Through the experiment, the DF-SCW outperformed in terms of detection, identification, and analysis of deepfake media by an increased rate of 3.77%. © 2024

Temporal sentence grounding (TSG) aims to identify the temporal boundary of a specific segment from an untrimmed video by a sentence query. All existing works first utilize a sparse sampling strategy to extract a fixed number of video frames and then conduct multimodal interactions with query sentence for reasoning. However, we argue that these methods have overlooked two indispensable issues: 1) Boundary-bias: The annotated target segment generally refers to two specific frames as corresponding start and end timestamps. The video downsampling process may lose these two frames and take the adjacent irrelevant frames as new boundaries. 2) Reasoning-bias: Such incorrect new boundary frames also lead to the reasoning bias during frame-query interaction, reducing the generalization ability of model. To alleviate above limitations, in this paper, we propose a novel Siamese Sampling and Reasoning Network (SSRN) for TSG, which introduces a siamese sampling mechanism to generate additional contextual frames to enrich and refine the new boundaries. Specifically, a reasoning strategy is developed to learn the inter-relationship among these frames and generate soft labels on boundaries for more accurate frame-query reasoning. Such mechanism is also able to supplement the absent consecutive visual semantics to the sampled sparse frames for fine-grained activity understanding. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of SSRN on three challenging datasets. © 2022 Association for Computational Linguistics.

With the development of manufacturing and society, a large amount of end-of-life products are generated but with reuse value. Therefore, it is of great significance to dismantle and reuse them. A robotic linear disassembly line plays an important role and promotes the disassembly efficiency in a disassembly process. In this work, we establish a mathematical model of a linear robotic disassembly line balancing problem, which requires the maximization of profit and minimization of energy consumption. Then, an improved ant lion optimizer is proposed to optimize the objectives of the multi-objective robotic disassembly line balancing problem. The experimental results show that the multi-objective ant lion optimizer has good performance, and the diversity and convergence are better than its peers. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. In disassembly industry, the disassembly efficiency closely depends on a reasonable disassembly mode and an efficient disassembly line. In the current manufacturing, the profit of multi-product partial U-shaped disassembly-line-balancing (MPUD) is relatively low and the energy consumption is high. According to the characteristics of the MPUD problem, a mathematical model for maximizing profit and minimizing energy consumption of human-robot disassembly is established. To solve the MPUD problem, a multi-objective strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm II is developed and crossover and mutation operators are improved to promote the convergence and feasibility of the algorithm. We perform the experiments on a ballpoint pen and a washing machine to simulate the disassembly process and compare the proposed algorithm with the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II and the multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has obvious advantages in the most important metrics. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

With the emergence of advanced technology, the user authentication methods have also been improved. Authenticating the user, several secure and efficient approaches have been introduced, but the biometric authentication method is considered much safer as compared to password-driven methods. In this paper, we explore the risks, concerns, and methods by installing well-known open-source software used in Unibiometric analysis by the partners of The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Not only are the algorithms used all open source but it comes with test data and several internal open source utilities necessary to process biometric data. © 2020 IEEE.

IoT clouds facilitate the communication between IoT devices and users, and authorize users' access to their devices. In this paradigm, an IoT device is usually managed under a particular IoT cloud designated by the device vendor, e.g., Philips bulbs are managed under Philips Hue cloud. Today's mainstream IoT clouds also support device access delegation across different vendors (e.g., Philips Hue, LIFX, etc.) and cloud providers (e.g., Google, IFTTT, etc.): for example, Philips Hue and SmartThings clouds support to delegate device access to another cloud such as Google Home, so a user can manage multiple devices from different vendors all through Google Home. Serving this purpose are the IoT delegation mechanisms developed and utilized by IoT clouds, which we found are heterogeneous and ad-hoc in the wild, in the absence of a standardized delegation protocol suited for IoT environments. In this paper, we report the first systematic study on real-world IoT access delegation, based upon a semi-automatic verification tool we developed. Our study brought to light the pervasiveness of security risks in these delegation mechanisms, allowing the adversary (e.g., Airbnb tenants, former employees) to gain unauthorized access to the victim's devices (e.g., smart locks) or impersonate the devices to trigger other devices. We confirmed the presence of critical security flaws in these mechanisms through end-to-end exploits on them, and further conducted a measurement study. Our research demonstrates the serious consequences of these exploits and the security implications of the practice today for building these mechanisms. We reported our findings to related parties, which acknowledged the problems. We further propose principles for developing more secure cross-cloud IoT delegation services, before a standardized solution can be widely deployed.
