Dynamic multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problem (DMRCPSP) is crucial for effectively managing complex projects where activities have multiple options of resource demand and durations are uncertain. Efficient solutions to this problem are vital for industrial applications, where optimal scheduling can significantly impact project costs and timelines. Genetic programming hyper-heuristic (GPHH) has been applied to evolve effective scheduling heuristics to make real-time decisions. However, current decision-making procedures for solving DMRCPSP primarily generate non-delay schedules, which are often suboptimal. This paper proposes two new decision-making procedures to generate (semi-)active schedules. The core idea is to expand the decision set and allow activities that cannot immediately start to reserve resources for future execution. We further developed GPHH to evolve scheduling heuristics based on these procedures and a comparison was conducted with existing decision-making procedures. The results demonstrated that the proposed GP approaches managed to evolve rules that generate more effective (semi-)active schedules than the best-known non-delayed schedules in real-time. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Researchers have recently created several deep learning strategies for various tasks, and facial recognition has made remarkable progress in employing these techniques. Face recognition is a noncontact, nonobligatory, acceptable, and harmonious biometric recognition method with a promising national and social security future. The purpose of this paper is to improve the existing face recognition algorithm, investigate extensive data-driven face recognition methods, and propose a unique automated face recognition methodology based on generative adversarial networks (GANs) and the center symmetric multivariable local binary pattern (CS-MLBP). To begin, this paper employs the center symmetric multivariant local binary pattern (CS-MLBP) algorithm to extract the texture features of the face, addressing the issue that C2DPCA (column-based two-dimensional principle component analysis) does an excellent job of removing the global characteristics of the face but struggles to process the local features of the face under large samples. The extracted texture features are combined with the international features retrieved using C2DPCA to generate a multifeatured face. The proposed method, GAN-CS-MLBP, syndicates the power of GAN with the robustness of CS-MLBP, resulting in an accurate and efficient face recognition system. Deep learning algorithms, mainly neural networks, automatically extract discriminative properties from facial images. The learned features capture low-level information and high-level meanings, permitting the model to distinguish among dissimilar persons more successfully. To assess the proposed technique’s GAN-CS-MLBP performance, extensive experiments are performed on benchmark face recognition datasets such as LFW, YTF, and CASIA-WebFace. In recent years, the advancement of renewable energy technologies has gained significant momentum, with wind energy emerging as a prominent source of clean electricity generation. The efficient operation and maintenance of wind turbines are crucial for maximizing energy production while minimizing costs. This paper presents the development of a machine learning (ML) model tailored specifically for wind turbine performance optimization. This study addresses gastrointestinal cancer radiation therapy challenges by implementing advanced deep learning techniques. We focus on automating manual segmentation tasks during treatment planning to enhance efficiency and patient tolerance. Our methodology uses a diverse 3D MRI scan dataset to employ image analysis, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and Image Segmentation. The primary architectural choices involve the U-Net and InceptionResNetv2 models, contributing to developing a predictive segmentation model. This substantial result underscores the effectiveness of our approach in achieving accurate segmentations in the clinical setting. The overarching objective of our project is to automate the segmentation of the stomach and intestines in MRI scans, thereby streamlining radiation therapy planning for improved efficiency and patient care. In our evaluations, the implemented model demonstrates a commendable dice coefficient of 0.7, as indicated by metrics such as dice loss. Anticipated outcomes encompass reduced treatment times, enhanced patient comfort, and optimised tumour radiation doses while minimising healthy tissue exposure. The successful implementation of this advanced model holds the potential to revolutionise current radiation therapy practices, significantly elevating cancer treatment outcomes. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Innovation is a vital component of success in the software development industry, where companies constantly seek to improve processes, products, and services. While individual creativity and motivation are essential, organizational factors also play a significant role in shaping innovative work behavior. This study delves into the complex interplay between individual and organizational factors that influence innovative work behavior in software development companies. Using a mixed-methods approach, we collected survey data from software developers, conducted in-depth interviews, and observed work practices. Our results reveal those individual factors like creativity, autonomy, and motivation, as well as organizational factors like leadership support, resources, and a culture of innovation, significantly impact innovative work behavior. We also found that organizational factors moderate the relationship between individual factors and innovative work *** study contributes to the understanding of innovative work behavior in software development, highlighting the importance of aligning individual and organizational factors to foster a culture of innovation. Our findings provide actionable insights for software development companies to develop strategies that promote innovative work behavior, drive competitiveness, and enhance success in the industry. By understanding the interplay between individual and organizational factors, companies can create an environment that encourages creativity, experimentation, and innovation, leading to the development of novel software solutions and improved business outcomes. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to economic costs and hardware limitations of full SDN deployment, partially deploying Software-defined networking (SDN) switches in traditional networks has become the most popular network architecture nowadays. Traffic engineering (TE) promotes the improvement of hybrid SDN performance by optimizing route selection and balancing network flows. Previous TE methods in hybrid SDN focus on centrally searching for the best link weight settings and leveraging heuristic algorithms to calculate the optimal splitting ratio of traffic through SDN switches. Due to the fluctuation of network traffic, previous algorithms fail to learn a routing policy that can adapt to the fast-changing network flows and network performance degrades as a result. Therefore, in this paper, to better learn the traffic features and improve the routing performance, we innovatively propose a TE approach combining contrastive learning and reinforcement learning to optimize routing of network traffic in hybrid SDN. Each agent trains an encoder that well represents the traffic features through contrastive learning and the traffic features are fed into the training of the actor neural network for learning the map between the traffic and routing policy through reinforcement learning. After offline training, the agent deployed on the SDN switch can quickly infer an effective traffic splitting policy that determines the splitting ratio of traffic on the SDN switch. Extensive experiments on three different network topologies show that our proposed algorithm provides significant improvements over state-of-arts. © 2023 IEEE.

Novel view synthesis has attracted tremendous research attention recently for its applications in virtual reality and immersive *** a locally immersive light field(LF)based on arbitrary large baseline RGB references is a challenging problem that lacks efficient solutions with existing novel view synthesis *** this work,we aim at truthfully rendering local immersive novel views/LF images based on large baseline LF captures and a single RGB image in the target *** fully explore the precious information from source LF captures,we propose a novel occlusion-aware source sampler(OSS)module which efficiently transfers the pixels of source views to the target view′s frustum in an occlusion-aware *** attention-based deep visual fusion module is proposed to fuse the revealed occluded background content with a preliminary LF into a final refined *** proposed source sampling and fusion mechanism not only helps to provide information for occluded regions from varying observation angles,but also proves to be able to effectively enhance the visual rendering *** results show that our proposed method is able to render high-quality LF images/novel views with sparse RGB references and outperforms state-of-the-art LF rendering and novel view synthesis methods.

Multi-scale feature fusion for facial expression recognition

As an important computer vision task that can be used in many areas, facial expression recognition (FER) has been widely studied which much progress has been obtained especially when deep learning (DL) approaches have been introduced in FER. However, existing methods are restricted to extracting localized information or utilizing attention mechanism to focus on the region most relevant to the emotion, possibly resulting in errors in facial expression interpretation. Moreover, the inconsistency of image sizes in the wild FER datasets further increases the difficulty of the FER task. To address these issues, we propose a multi-scale feature fusion (MSFF) for FER. Specifically, our method first extracts features from facial images using multi-scale feature extraction to obtain rich multi-dimensional information. Meanwhile, extensive feature extraction at different scales is achieved by expanding the receptive field of the model, which provides the basis for more detailed analysis of facial expressions. Eventually, features at different scales are fused to enhance their synergistic effect. Subsequently, the adaptive extraction of comprehensive and valuable information from the fused features is performed, optimizing the performance of expression recognition. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on in-the-wild datasets. The pandemic creates a more complicated providence of medical assistance and diagnosis procedures. In the world, Covid-19, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS Cov-2), and plague are widely known pandemic disease desperations. Due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic tragedies, various medical diagnosis models and intelligent computing solutions are proposed for medical applications. In this era of computer-based medical environment, conventional clinical solutions are surpassed by many Machine Learning and Deep Learning-based COVID-19 diagnosis models. Anyhow, many existing models are developing lab-based diagnosis environments. Notably, the Gated Recurrent Unit-based Respiratory data Analysis (GRU-RE), Intelligent Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-based Covid data Analysis (Thermal Images) (I-UVAC), and Convolutional Neural Network-based computer Tomography Image Analysis (CNN-CT) are enriched with lightweight image data analysis techniques for obtaining mass pandemic data at real-time conditions. However, the existing models directly deal with bulk images (thermal data and respiratory data) to diagnose the symptoms of COVID-19. Against these works, the proposed spectacle thermal image data analysis model creates an easy and effective way of disease diagnosis deployment strategies. Particularly, the mass detection of disease symptoms needs a more lightweight equipment setup. In this proposed model, each patient's thermal data is collected via the spectacles of medical staff, and the data are analyzed with the help of a complex set of capsule network functions. Comparatively, the conventional capsule network functions are enriched in this proposed model using adequate sampling and data reduction solutions. In this way, the proposed model works effectively for mass thermal data diagnosis applications.
