Pipeline networks are crucial for process industries transportation and business operation. These vital elements, however, are highly exposed to material degradation due to corrosion that seriously impedes operational profitability, reliability, and safety. Industries usually monitor pipeline corrosion rate by gauging pipe wall thickness. Predicting pipe wall thickness helps industries to identify locations with high corrosion rate at an early stage and take necessary actions. The aim of this research is to predict pipe wall thickness at different locations using different machine learning algorithms including Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), k-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), fully connected Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM). The data processed and analyzed in this study included six different process variables as well as pipe wall thickness at three different locations in a downstream oil and gas industry. The study findings demonstrated that LSTM with test Root Mean Squared Errors (RMSEs) of 0.019 mm, 0.015 mm, and 0.017 mm for the three selected locations, outperformed the other methods applied and successfully identified the pipe wall thickness pattern. © 2021 IEEE.

Social network analysis has created a productive framework for the analysis of the histories of patient-physician interactions and physician collaboration. Notable is the construction of networks based on the data of "referral paths"- sequences of patient-specific temporally linked physician visits - in this case, culled from a large set of Medicare claims data in the United States. Network constructions depend on a range of choices regarding the underlying data. In this paper we introduce the use of a five-factor experiment that produces 80 distinct projections of the bipartite patient-physician mixing matrix to a unipartite physician network derived from the referral path data, which is further analyzed at the level of the 2,219 hospitals in the final analytic sample. We summarize the networks of physicians within a given hospital using a range of directed and undirected network features (quantities that summarize structural properties of the network such as its size, density, and reciprocity). The different projections and their underlying factors are evaluated in terms of the heterogeneity of the network features across the hospitals. We also evaluate the projections relative to their ability to improve the predictive accuracy of a model estimating a hospital's adoption of implantable cardiac defibrillators, a novel cardiac intervention. Because it optimizes the knowledge learned about the overall and interactive effects of the factors, we anticipate that the factorial design setting for network analysis may be useful more generally as a methodological advance in network analysis. © 2023 The Author(s).

Twitter is one of Indonesia's most widely used social media to express positive and negative emotions. Negative emotions are referred to as emotional reactivity, an example of which is depression. To detect emotional reactivity, Artificial Intelligence (AI) was used. With deep learning pretrained model methods (IndoBERT and IndoBERTweet), AI successfully classified emotional reactivity. AI satisfactorily detected emotional reactivity on Twitter.

In this paper we consider the filtering problem associated to partially observed McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations (SDEs). The model consists of data that are observed at regular and discrete times and the objective is to compute the conditional expectation of (functionals) of the solutions of the SDE at the current time. This problem, even the ordinary SDE case is challenging and requires numerical approximations. Based upon the ideas in [3, 12] we develop a new particle filter (PF) and multilevel particle filter (MLPF) to approximate the afore-mentioned expectations. We prove under assumptions that, for ϵ > 0, to obtain a mean square error of O(ϵ2) the PF has a cost per-observation time of O(ϵ−5) and the MLPF costs O(ϵ−4) (best case) or O(ϵ−4 log(ϵ)2) (worst case). Our theoretical results are supported by numerical experiments. © 2024, CC BY.

An accurate predictive model of temperature and humidity plays a vital role in many industrial processes that utilize a closed space such as in agriculture and building management. With the exceptional performance of deep learning on time-series data, developing a predictive temperature and humidity model with deep learning is propitious. In this study, we demonstrated that deep learning models with multivariate time-series data produce remarkable performance for temperature and relative humidity prediction in a closed space. In detail, all deep learning models that we developed in this study achieve almost perfect performance with an R value over 0.99.

The infection of Plasmodium vivax is relatively less virulent than the deathliest Plasmodium falciparum. However, it still can lead to a fatal case and often induces recurring malaria due to dormant parasites in the liver. Thus, the research to study the drug to treat Plasmodium vivax is essential, where the enzyme dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) has recently become a new drug target. However, the drug-enzyme interaction study has only recently been conducted in Plasmodium falciparum (pfDHODH) due to the lack of the 3D structure of enzyme DHODH from Plasmodium vivax that is crucial for the study. Therefore, this study aimed to perform the modelling study of Plasmodium vivax DHODH (PvDHODH) to create a 3D structure as a basis for drug-protein interaction study in upcoming studies. Sequence pvDHODH (Accession: SCO68359.1) was used in homology modelling using Modeller 10.2 with the crystal structure of DHODH from DHODH (Accession: 7KZY) as a template. Overall, the model generated from the homology modelling was considered a good model, and the 3D structure was close to the native state according to several parameters, including DOPE score, GA341 score, QMEAN4 value, 3D-1D score, ERRAT2 score, and ProSA score. Ramachandran plot also revealed that almost all amino acids were distributed in the desirable and allowed area (99.1%), and only 0.9% were in generously allowed regions. Superimposition of the model with the template also indicated that the model has an almost similar structure and amino acids positioning, including in the binding pocket and active site. Therefore, the model can be used for downstream analysis in drug-protein interaction studies. Nevertheless, some improvements can still be performed to upgrade the quality of the model by deleting unaligned residues on the C-terminal and realigning the residues at the doubting site.

The spread of Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19) in Indonesia is still relatively high and has not shown a significant decrease. One of the main reasons is due to the lack of supervision on the implementation of health protocols such as wearing masks in daily activities. Recently, state-of-The-Art algorithms were introduced to automate face mask detection. To be more specific, the researchers developed various kinds of architectures for the detection of masks based on computer vision methods. This paper aims to evaluate well-known architectures, namely the ResNet50, VGG11, InceptionV3, EfficientNetB4, and YOLO (You Only Look Once) to recommend the best approach in this specific field. By using the MaskedFace-Net dataset, the experimental results showed that the EfficientNetB4 architecture has better accuracy at 95.77% compared to the YOLOv4 architecture of 93.40%, InceptionV3 of 87.30%, YOLOv3 of 86.35%, ResNet50 of 84.41%, VGG11 of 84.38%, and YOLOv2 of 78.75%, respectively. It should be noted that particularly for YOLO, the model was trained using a collection of MaskedFace-Net images that had been pre-processed and labelled for the task. The model was initially able to train faster with pre-Trained weights from the COCO dataset thanks to transfer learning, resulting in a robust set of features expected for face mask detection and classification. © 2022 Elsevier B.V.. Medical imaging abnormality detection is challenging, but deep learning approaches have shown promise. This paper reviews the current state of the art in deep learning approaches for detecting abnormalities in chest medical imaging. To discover the trends, opportunities, and challenges associated with this field, 18 studies were selected from Google Scholar based on their titles, abstracts, and contents for extensive review to answer two research questions. The study found that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Chest X-ray 14 dataset is the most used dataset for this task. Most research uses a single-modal approach, considering only image data as input, with X-ray being the more popular instrument. There are 8 out of 18 studies leverage the transfer learning approach, with ResN et50 being the most popular network. MobileNetV2 has demonstrated competitive results compared to more robust networks. Preprocessing techniques such as image enhancement and data augmentation are leveraged by 61.1 % of the reviewed studies and are shown to improve model performance.

In this article we consider Bayesian estimation of static parameters for a class of partially observed McKean-Vlasov diffusion processes with discrete-time observations over a fixed time interval. This problem features several obstacles to its solution, which include that the posterior density is numerically intractable in continuous-time, even if the transition probabilities are available and even when one uses a time-discretization, the posterior still cannot be used by adopting well-known computational methods such as Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). In this paper we provide a solution to this problem by using new MCMC algorithms which can solve the aforementioned issues. This MCMC algorithm is extended to use multilevel Monte Carlo (MLMC) methods. We prove convergence bounds on our parameter estimators and show that the MLMC-based MCMC algorithm reduces the computational cost to achieve a mean square error versus ordinary MCMC by an order of magnitude. Fantasy Sports has a current market size of ${\$}$27B and is expected to grow more than ${\$}$84B in less than a decade. The intent is to create virtual teams that somehow reflect what would happen if the constituent players actually played in a team. Using individual player and team statistics, models can be trained to predict an outcome. But fans are left wanting more. To achieve a more realistic outcome, aspects of what makes live teams win need to be included: (1) transforming player statistics to reflect their relative importance with respect to a player position; (2) team chemistry (TC). In this work, we show a novel characterization of relative position statistics and a new description of TC. Drawn from the NBA’s API, we form a data set to determine whether a fantasy team makes the playoffs using almost two dozen features, including TC. Various Machine Learning models are trained on this data and the best-performing model is offered to the users through a web service. Users can not only inspect fantasy teams and their TC but can also simulate their match-ups with existing 2023 NBA teams and utilize performance visualizations to help improve their team creation process.
