We consider the task of identifying and estimating the causal effect of a treatment variable on a long-term outcome variable using data from an observational domain and an experimental domain. The observational domain is subject to unobserved confounding. Furthermore, subjects in the experiment are only followed for a short period of time;hence, long-term effects of treatment are unobserved but short-term effects will be observed. Therefore, data from neither domain alone suffices for causal inference about the effect of the treatment on the long-term outcome, and must be pooled in a principled way, instead. Athey et al. (2020) proposed a method for systematically combining such data for identifying the downstream causal effect in view. Their approach is based on the assumptions of internal and external validity of the experimental data, and an extra novel assumption called latent unconfoundedness. In this paper, we first review their proposed approach, and then we propose three alternative approaches for data fusion for the purpose of identifying and estimating average treatment effect as well as the effect of treatment on the treated. Our first approach is based on assuming equi-confounding bias for the short-term and long-term outcomes. Our second approach is based on a relaxed version of the equi-confounding bias assumption, where we assume the existence of an observed confounder such that the short-term and long-term potential outcome variables have the same partial additive association with that confounder. Our third approach is based on the proximal causal inference framework, in which we assume the existence of an extra variable in the system which is a proxy of the latent confounder of the treatment-outcome relation. Indonesia is one of the biggest palm oil exporters in the world. For Indonesia to stay competitive in thepalm oil industry, the harvesting and evacuating process in its oil palm plantation need to be optimized. This research introduces machinerycalled as Smart Crane Grabber. This machinery can be used for automatic harvesting and evacuation process of oil palm fresh fruit bunch. To enable automation, Smart Crane Grabber is equipped with an Artificial Intelligencesystem for automatic ripeness sorting. TheArtificial Intelligence system developed for Smart Crane Grabber achieves 71.34% accuracy by using only 400 images as preliminary training data. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Gene expression profiling technologies have been used in various applications such as cancer biology. The development of gene expression profiling has expanded the scope of target discovery in transcriptomic studies, and each technology produces data with distinct characteristics. In order to guarantee biologically meaningful findings using transcriptomic experiments, it is important to consider various experimental factors in a systematic way through statistical power analysis. In this paper, we review and discuss the power analysis for three types of gene expression profiling technologies from a practical standpoint, including bulk RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, and high-throughput spatial transcriptomics. Specifically, we describe the existing power analysis tools for each research objective for each of the bulk RNA-seq and scRNA-seq experiments, along with recommendations. On the other hand, since there are no power analysis tools for high-throughput spatial transcriptomics at this point, we instead investigate the factors that can influence power analysis. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

We report on differential evolution for analytic continuation: a parameter-free evolutionary algorithm to generate the dynamic structure factor from imaginary time correlation functions. Our approach to this long-standing problem in quantum many-body physics achieves enhanced spectral fidelity while using fewer compute (CPU) hours. The need for fine-tuning of algorithmic control parameters is eliminated by embedding them within the genome to be optimized for this evolutionary computation-based algorithm. Benchmarks are presented for models where the dynamic structure factor is known exactly and experimentally relevant results are included for quantum Monte Carlo simulations of bulk He4 below the superfluid transition temperature.

Drying has been an eco-friendly and cost-efficient method to reduce post-harvest losses of agricultural crops. In various countries, the technique has been widely utilized in the form of Solar Dryer Dome (SDD) buildings. Accurate indoor microclimate forecasting is very important to implement smart control systems in SDDs that can maintain the ideal conditions, as the availability of solar energy is limited only at daytimes and the temperature may drop significantly during nighttimes in remote areas. The microclimate variables that play an important role in maintaining ideal environmental conditions include temperature and relative humidity. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In the current landscape of deep learning research, there is a predominant emphasis on achieving high predictive accuracy in supervised tasks involving large image and language datasets. However, a broader perspective reveals a multitude of overlooked metrics, tasks, and data types, such as uncertainty, active and continual learning, and scientific data, that demand attention. Bayesian deep learning (BDL) constitutes a promising avenue, offering advantages across these diverse settings. This paper posits that BDL can elevate the capabilities of deep learning. It revisits the strengths of BDL, acknowledges existing challenges, and highlights some exciting research avenues aimed at addressing these obstacles. Looking ahead, the discussion focuses on possible ways to combine large-scale foundation models with BDL to unlock their full potential. © 2024, CC BY-NC-ND.

Count time series modelling of Twitter data topic modelling: A case of Indonesia flood events

Twitter data provide rich and powerful information to leverage the dynamics of public perception to establish situational awareness and disaster mitigation strategies during critical times. In this paper, we perform topic modeling via Latent Dirichlet Allocation to extract topics from a collection of tweets related to Indonesia flood events in February 2021 with the query: “banjir”. The extracted topics are used as one of the features to build a generalized linear count time series model with Negative Binomial distribution. We find seven major topics from the model in which tweets containing a topic about the government’s role in handling the situation dominate the conversation. Taking into account a simple intervention analysis, we demonstrate a statistically significant change in the users’ behavior before and after the severe Jakarta flood on 20 February 2021. Moreover, a metric evaluation demonstrates that a covariate that describes the turning point of the Jakarta flood event is convenient to build a more accurate count time series model of the tweets.

Meteorological parameters for PV installations in Indonesia

Many countries are still dependent on fossil fuels as their primary energy supply. However, there is a growing concern about the sustainability and the environmental issue of fossil fuels. Therefore, it is important to utilize renewable resources as the energy supply, such as solar energy. As a country with a tropical climate, Indonesia has a great potential to use solar energy, due to the abundance of sunlight exposure. The present study aims to analyze several meteorological parameters for the installation of photovoltaic (PV) technology in Jakarta, Indonesia. The meteorological data provided by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Indonesia from 2008-2021 were used at three different locations in Jakarta. data visualizations were used to show the difference between each variable in different locations. In addition, the statistical difference between the variables in the three locations was also examined using the Mann-Whitney U test. The test shows that all parameters are evenly distributed in the three locations except for a moderate difference in air temperature in the two locations. Furthermore, the monthly analysis of the parameters also indicates that the dry season, especially from August to September, would be the optimal time to utilize PV technology. Hence, this study would be useful to give preliminary insight regarding a site-specified assessment of PV plants in Jakarta based on local meteorological data.

Systematic literature review: Accelerate the rice production for global food security

By 2050, about 70% of extra food production is needed to feed the world's population. As a majority staple food, the expansion of rice production should be accelerated. This systematic literature review aims to discover the factors that influence rice yields through a methodology that is partitioned into four main stages, i.e., query entry into multiple database sources, article title filtering, abstract filtering, and final article selection. The results show that genetics, irrigation system management, and farmers’ long-evolved local knowledge or experiences are the three big factors that elevate the rice production rates. Nevertheless, global warming is a serious challenge that should be deeply considered due to its great impact on reducing rice yields by up to 14.5%. Thus, the development of genetically modified rice varieties needs to be escalated while still maintaining other exogenous factors. This study contributes to providing a broader perspective for decision-makers and other relevant experts to accelerate rice production to achieve global food security.
