Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) play an increasingly important role in assisting fast-response post-disaster rescue due to their fast deployment, flexible mobility, and low cost. However, UAVs face the challenges of limited battery capacity and computing resources, which could shorten the expected flight endurance of UAVs and increase the rescue response delay during performing mission-critical tasks. To address this challenge, we first present a three-layer post-disaster rescue computing architecture by leveraging the aerial-terrestrial edge capabilities of mobile edge computing (MEC) and vehicle fog computing (VFC), which consists of a vehicle fog layer, a UAV client layer, and a UAV edge layer. Moreover, we formulate a joint task offloading and resource allocation optimization problem (JTRAOP) with the aim of maximizing the time-average system utility. Since the formulated JTRAOP is proved to be NP-hard, we propose an MEC-VFC-aided task offloading and resource allocation (MVTORA) approach, which consists of a game theoretic algorithm for task offloading decision, a convex optimization-based algorithm for MEC resource allocation, and an evolutionary computation-based hybrid algorithm for VFC resource allocation. Simulation results validate that the proposed approach can achieve superior system performance compared to the other benchmark schemes, especially under heavy system workloads. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as aerial relays are practically appealing for assisting Internet of Things (IoT) network. In this work, we aim to utilize the UAV swarm to assist the secure communication between the micro base station (MBS) equipped with the planar array antenna (PAA) and the IoT terminal devices by collaborative beamforming (CB), so as to counteract the effects of collusive eavesdropping attacks in time-domain. Specifically, we formulate a UAV swarm-enabled secure relay multi-objective optimization problem (US2RMOP) for simultaneously maximizing the achievable sum rate of associated IoT terminal devices, minimizing the achievable sum rate of the eavesdropper and minimizing the energy consumption of UAV swarm, by jointly optimizing the excitation current weights of both MBS and UAV swarm, the selection of the UAV receiver, the position of UAVs and user association order of IoT terminal devices. Furthermore, the formulated US2RMOP is proved to be a non-convex, NP-hard and large-scale optimization problem. Therefore, we propose an improved multi-objective grasshopper algorithm (IMOGOA) with some specific designs to address the problem. Simulation results exhibit the effectiveness of the proposed UAV swarm-enabled collaborative secure relay strategy and demonstrate the superiority of IMOGOA. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. Image captioning is still a challenging task aiming at describing the contents of image by words. Current image caption methods usually assume the object relation to be important if the semantic and spatial geometric relationships between objects are close and large, but the relations meeting this assumption are not necessarily important to describe the contents of image in a fine-grained way. That is, the importance of fine-grained object relations is not properly taken into account. Besides, current Transformer based image caption models also fail to consider the importance of fine-grained objects, since they generate all the words of a sentence at one time, which cannot Figure out which objects are more important and vice versa. In this paper, we propose a novel Fine-grained Adaptive Object Transformer (FineFormer) network, which can jointly discover the importance of fine-grained objects and object relations for image captioning. Specifically, a new concept of adaptive soft-foreground attention is proposed to highlight the fine-grained objects dominating the descriptive contents. To characterize and calculate the important relations between fine-grained objects, we also propose an adaptive object relation attention to refine the object relation from the generation process of relation. As such, FineFormer can describe the contents of image more accurately, by reducing the interference of unimportant objects in the background. Extensive experiments on the highly-competitive MS-COCO dataset demonstrated the superiority of our FineFormer.

Scalable teacher forcing network for semi-supervised large scale data streams

The large-scale data stream problem refers to high-speed information flow which cannot be processed in scalable manner under a traditional computing platform. This problem also imposes expensive labelling cost making the deployment of fully supervised algorithms unfeasible. On the other hand, the problem of semi-supervised large-scale data streams is little explored in the literature because most works are designed in the traditional single-node computing environments while also being fully supervised approaches. This paper offers Weakly Supervised Scalable Teacher Forcing Network (WeScatterNet) to cope with the scarcity of labelled samples and the large-scale data streams simultaneously. WeScatterNet is crafted under distributed computing platform of Apache Spark with a data-free model fusion strategy for model compression after parallel computing stage. It features an open network structure to address the global and local drift problems while integrating a data augmentation, annotation and auto-correction (DA3) method for handling partially labelled data streams. The performance of WeScatterNet is numerically evaluated in the six large-scale data stream problems with only 25% label proportions. Road network restoration is an important issue in the post-disaster disposal and rescue,especially when extraordinarily serious natural disasters(e.g.,floods and earthquakes) *** to this endeavour is the problem of determining how to reasonably schedule and route the repair crew to quickly restore the damaged road network and establish reliable supply lines from supply nodes to demand ***,most existing work focuses on the activities of the single repair crew in the static road network,which is unable to adapt to the dynamic changes of the road network caused by secondary disasters,such as rock slides and debris ***,this work is concentrated on multicrew dynamic scheduling and routing in road network ***,a model of multicrew dynamic scheduling and routing is first ***,the Markov decision process is adopted to construct a decision model for repair crews,based on which a multiagent Q-learning algorithm is developed to find the best scheduling and routing ***,experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can make repair crews adjust their scheduling and routing strategies according to the dynamic changes of the damaged road network and provides a useful attempt to restore the damaged road network in complex,dynamic emergency scenarios of post-disaster.

To obtain lower inference latency and less memory footprint of deep neural networks, model quantization has been widely employed in deep model deployment, by converting the floating points to low-precision integers. However, previous methods (such as quantization aware training and post training quantization) require original data for the fine-tuning or calibration of quantized model, which makes them inapplicable to the cases that original data are not accessed due to privacy or security. This gives birth to the data-free quantization method with synthetic data generation. While current data-free quantization methods still suffer from severe performance degradation when quantizing a model into lower bit, caused by the low inter-class separability of semantic features. To this end, we propose a new and effective data-free quantization method termed ClusterQ, which utilizes the feature distribution alignment for synthetic data generation. To obtain high inter-class separability of semantic features, we cluster and align the feature distribution statistics to imitate the distribution of real data, so that the performance degradation is alleviated. Moreover, we incorporate the diversity enhancement to solve class-wise mode collapse. We also employ the exponential moving average to update the centroid of each cluster for further feature distribution improvement. Extensive experiments based on different deep models (e.g., ResNet-18 and MobileNet-V2) over the ImageNet dataset demonstrate that our proposed ClusterQ model obtains state-of-the-art performance.

In today's competitive business world, being aware of the customer needs and market oriented production is a key success factor for industries. To this aim, the use of efficient analytic algorithms ensures a better understanding of the customer feedback and improves the next generation of products. Accordingly, the dramatic increase of using social media in the daily life provides beneficial sources for market analytics. But how traditional analytic algorithms and methods can scale up for such disparate and multi-structured data sources is the main challenge in this regard. This paper presents and discusses the technological and scientific focus of the SoMABiT as a social media analysis platform using big data technology. Sentiment analysis has been employed in order to discover knowledge from social media. The use of MapReduce and developing a distributed algorithm towards an integrated platform which can scale for any data volume and provide a social media driven knowledge is the main novelty of the proposed concept in comparison to the state-of-the-art technologies. With widespread modernization, digitization and transformations of most of industries, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become the key enabler in that modernization journey. AI offers substantial capabilities to solve new problems and optimise existing solutions specialising on specific problems and learning from different domains. AI solutions can be either explainable or black box ones with the latter being urged to improve since they cannot trust. Case-based Reasoning (CBR) is an explainable AI approach where solutions are provided along with relevant explanations in terms of why a solution was selected. However, CBR, like most other explainable approaches, has several limitations in terms of scalability, large data volumes, domain complexity, that reduce its ability to scale any CBR system in industrial applications. In this paper, we provide a heterogeneous CBR framework - DeepKAF where we combine CBR paradigm with Deep Learning architectures to solve complicated Natural Language Processing (NLP) problems (eg. mixed language and grammatically incorrect text).DeepKAF is built based on continuous research in the area of Deep Learning and CBR. DeepKAF has been implemented and used across different domains, test use cases and research models as an ensemble deep learning and CBR Architecture. © 2020 IEEE.
