Accurate Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) forecasting is crucial for effective agricultural planning. However, a good prediction of the same requires sufficient data, but structured data is not available in the public domain or open-source community. Also, most of the existing methods do not consider spatial information. This study presents a novel semi-automated dataset generation framework that utilizes Sentinel-2, POWER data Access Viewer, and Google Earth Engine to create a comprehensive time-series dataset. We propose a smoothed long short-term memory (LSTM) model considering time series, historical meteorological, and spatial information. The proposed Smoothed-LSTM-based model outperforms Traditional-LSTM models, demonstrating its effectiveness in NDVI prediction for agricultural applications. © 2024 IEEE.

With the rapid advancement of machine learning (ML) models and their widespread application across various sectors such as intrusion detection, medical diagnosis, natural language processing, and autonomous driving, these technologies have achieved remarkable success. However, this progress has also raised significant concerns about ensuring the security of ML models and protecting both private training data and model outputs from getting exposed in a shared cloud environment. To address these challenges, researchers have proposed various methodologies to create privacy-preserving, secure, and trustworthy model execution environments to prevent adversarial attacks. This study provides a comprehensive review of Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) implementations across different hardware accelerators. It also offers an overview of modern techniques for preserving privacy and security in execution environments, while identifying critical research gaps that require attention. In essence, this survey is an important resource for researchers, providing insights into recent methodologies and guiding them to focus on pressing research challenges. © 2025 IEEE.

Spatio-Temporal NDVI Prediction for Rice Crop

Accurately predicting the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is crucial for effective agricultural planning and decision-making. Despite much literature on NDVI prediction, most of these methods do not consider spatial-temporal variations. Generating a dataset for predicting NDVI is another major bottleneck, as such data needs to be collected over an extensive period. In this work, we develop a semi-automated framework to generate a comprehensive time-series dataset after necessary preprocessing using the information from Sentinel-2, POWER data Access Viewer, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE). We propose a deep learning-based model to predict NDVI based on its historical time series and meteorological and spatial information for the rice crop in India. Here, we use a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM)-based model augmented with spatial information to predict the NDVI of the near-about region for which the data is unavailable. We compared the proposed approach with a method that uses a weighted average of nearest neighbors prediction. Also, we compare the proposed method with existing statistical techniques such as the Autoregressive (AR), AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA), and Seasonal AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA). Experimental results show that our methodology outperforms other techniques by a margin of 4% to 8%. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Enhanced Privacy-Preserving WiFi Fingerprint Localization from CL Encryption

The WiFi fingerprint-based localization method is considered one of the most popular techniques for indoor localization. In INFOCOM'14, Li et al. proposed a wireless fidelity(WiFi) fingerprint localization system based on Paillier encryption, which is claimed to protect both client C 's location privacy and service provider S's database privacy. However, Yang et al. presented a practical data privacy attack in INFOCOM'18, which allows a polynomial time attacker to obtain S's database. We propose a novel WiFi fingerprint localization system based on CastagnosLaguillaumie(CL) encryption, which has a trustless setup and is efficient due to the excellent properties of CL encryption. To prevent Yang et al.'s attack, the system requires that S selects only the locations from its database that can receive the nonzero signals from all the available access points in C 's nonzero fingerprint in order to determine C's location. Security analysis shows that our scheme is secure under Li et al.'s threat model. Furthermore, to enhance the security level of privacy-preserving WiFi fingerprint localization scheme based on CL encryption, we propose a secure and efficient zero-knowledge proof protocol for the discrete logarithm relations in C's encrypted localization queries.

This paper presents an approach to joint wireless and computing resource management in slice-enabled metaverse networks, addressing the challenges of inter-slice and intra-slice resource allocation in the presence of in-network computing. We formulate the problem as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem and derive an optimal solution using standard optimization techniques. Through extensive simulations, we demonstrate that our proposed method significantly improves system performance by effectively balancing the allocation of radio and computing resources across multiple slices. Our approach outperforms existing benchmarks, particularly in scenarios with high user demand and varying computational tasks. © 2024 IEEE.

The advancements in computer Vision (CV) techniques have demonstrated significant promise in healthcare applications. The adoption of CV within the healthcare sector has drawn considerable attention. The aim of this study is to systematically review and synthesize the recent advancements and applications of CV techniques in various domains of healthcare. 125 papers were selected initially, and after gradual filtering, 20 papers were selected for the final study. In this study, we have identified five medical domains such as disease detection, drug discovery, surgical procedures, human identity decoding, and remote patient monitoring where CV applications are being successfully implemented. Among these domains, the use of CV in surgical assistance is notable. It capitalizes on the precision and efficiency offered by CV. Deep Learning (DL) models show adaptability and accuracy in medical imaging. The combination of computer vision and sensors enhances real-time surgical skills assessment. This study revealed that CV applications can be utilized for predictive analytics and personalized patient treatments. Standardized performance metrics, ethics, and data governance are crucial for responsible computer vision deployment in healthcare. Autonomous Robot Navigation in unknown and dynamic environments is considered one of the grand challenges in robotics. These motions that guide it span from rescue operations to planetary exploration. Classical methods for path planning, including A*, Dijkstra, and RRT, were unable to balance the efficiency and adaptability of motion planning over complex terrain. This may have a powerful solution using Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) with advanced machine learning techniques to improve the ability of robotic navigation. This study proposes a GAN-based approach for designing an effective self-adaptive path planning and obstacle avoidance system for autonomous robots. Despite performing well in structured environments, traditional techniques normally fail in analysing the unstructured terrains with real-time adjustments and dynamic changes due to the high computational costs and lack of flexibility involved. In this regard, the proposed GAN-based system resolves these issues by rating navigation paths concerning safety and efficiency. Quantitative analysis demonstrates that within a forest, desert, urban, or off-road environment, the computational times by using the developed strategy turn out to be 0.12 seconds, 0.10 seconds, 0.14 seconds, and 0.13 seconds, respectively, behaving much lower than what can be achieved with other algorithms. This approach proves much superior in terms of computational efficiency path smoothness and adaptability under different environmental conditions in applications related to autonomous robot navigation systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Crop yield prediction is a crucial task in agricultural science, involving the classification of potential yield into various levels. This is vital for both farmers and policymakers. The features considered for this task are diverse, including weather, soil, and historical yield data. Recently, plant images captured in different modalities, such as red-green-blue, infrared, and multispectral bands, have also been utilized. Most of these data are inherently temporal. Integrating such multimodal and temporal data is advantageous for yield classification. In this work, a deep learning framework based on meta-transformers and temporal graph neural networks has been proposed to achieve this goal. Meta-Transformers allow the modeling of multimodal interactions, while temporayel graph neural networks enable the utilization of time sequences. Experimental results on the publicly available EPFL multimodal dataset demonstrate that the proposed framework achieves a high classification accuracy of nearly 97%, surpassing other state-of-the-art models, such as long short-term memory networks, 1-D convolutional neural networks, and Transformers. In addition, the proposed model excels in accuracy metrics, with a precision of approximately 98%, an F1-Score of 91%, and a recall of 94% in crop yield prediction. © 2024 IEEE.

Lung cancer has become one of the primary causes of death worldwide due to cancer, which indicates the necessity of early diagnosis. In this regard, the present work proposes an optimized model of transfer learning based on characterizing different stages of lung cancer by using computed tomography images acquired from the IQ-OTH/NCCD lung cancer database downloadable from Kaggle. It makes use of a two-step process: first, a U-Net model is used on the patient's CT images to reconstruct anatomical features and reduce noise;second, a ShuffleNet architecture is used to predict the patient's CT stage using the reconstructed image. In addition, to enhance classification, PSO was incorporated into the model so that it can optimize the hyperparameters. The accuracy of the model was at 97.85 percent, and it suggests that the model can become a very useful tool for clinicians to bring about earliest identification and staging for lung cancer. © 2024 IEEE.

Water scarcity in arid regions necessitates innovative solutions to uncover and manage subsurface water resources for environmental health. This study explores the potential of GeoHydroNet, a specialized deep learning framework, in identifying hidden water resources within arid regions. Utilizing remote sensing data such as multispectral and hyperspectral imagery, geological maps, and soil moisture datasets, GeoHydroNet combines graph neural Networks (GNNs), AutoEncoders, and generative adversarial networks (GANs) to address challenges in subsurface hydrology. The model achieved an accuracy of 93.5%, surpassing traditional models like CNNs (85.4%), LSTMs (88.1%), and RNNs (82.6%). GeoHydroNet demonstrates significant precision (0.88), recall (0.87), and sensitivity to data imbalance (0.91). Its physics-informed learning approach incorporates hydrological principles, ensuring realistic predictions. By analyzing subsurface water patterns, recharge zones, and geological influences, the model not only enhances prediction accuracy but also aids in sustainable groundwater management. GeoHydroNet’s performance in identifying groundwater levels, with minimal errors ranging from 0.62 to 3.07%, indicates its robustness in tackling water scarcity challenges in data-constrained environments. These findings highlight its transformative role in hydrological modeling and sustainable water resource management in arid regions. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
