Coastal areas around the world face a great threat from tropical cyclones, which makes timely and accurate identification essential for efficient disaster response. An enhanced method for detecting tropical cyclones is proposed in this work using the YOLOv8 (You Only Look Once version 8) object identification algorithm. Using the real-time object recognition capabilities of YOLOv8, the methodology is designed to tackle the challenges associated with finding cyclonic structures in satellite data. To detect crucial features typical of tropical cyclones - like cloud formations, circular symmetry, and dynamic atmospheric fluctuations - the YOLOv8 architecture is improved. To ensure its adaptability to different climatic circumstances, the model is trained using a varied dataset of labeled satellite photos. The YOLOv8-based methodology is superior to existing methods in detecting tropical cyclones with accuracy and efficiency almost in real-time, as demonstrated by the experimental results. Because of the algorithm's excellent precision, recall, and computing economy, early warning systems and catastrophe preparedness can benefit greatly from it. This research contributes to the ongoing effort to develop detection approaches for increased resilience in vulnerable coastal areas, while also utilizing YOLOv8's capabilities to address the global threat posed by tropical cyclones. This study can help clarify the necessity of improving models and conducting better observations of Tropical Cyclones. © 2024 IEEE.

Lung cancer that is made up of small cells is called small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Smoking tobacco in any form-cigarettes, cigars, or pipes-is by far the most significant risk factor for developing lung cancer, though it is only one of many. Cancer of the lungs is known as lung cancer. When cells in the body multiply uncontrollably, cancer develops. If cancer cells enter the lymphatic system or the bloodstream, they can travel to other organs and spread the disease. Cheap and fast cancer diagnostics could save millions. Latestage cancer treatment is hard. Lung cancer is diagnosed non-invasively. Biopsy requires careful ANN architecture selection. This study proposes a diagnosis ANN model. ANN research is 'hot' in cardiology, cancer, and radiology. Medical research uses ANNs. Lung cancer diagnosis was tested. MR images assess lung health for the neural network. MATLAB created ANNs and processed images. Training data was extracted from MR images using Harlick texture features. MATLAB made ANNs. Elman Network exceeds ANNs with 90.30 %. Lung cancer can develop. MRIs detect lung cancer. MRIs show lung development. Many lung tumour detection research use machine learning and deep learning. MRI algorithms swiftly detect lung malignancies, improving patient therapy. Radiologists use these forecasts. The study evaluates a self-defined ANN for lung tumour identification. The radiologist needs time to find and remove the cancer from the MR. Technology improves performance and segmentation. Machines always predict and detect. Neural networks outperformed SVM, Random forest, regression, and others. © 2024 IEEE.

We resolve difficulties in training and sampling from a discrete generative model by learning a smoothed energy function, sampling from the smoothed data manifold with Langevin Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC), and projecting back to the true data manifold with one-step denoising. Our Discrete Walk-Jump Sampling formalism combines the contrastive divergence training of an energy-based model and improved sample quality of a score-based model, while simplifying training and sampling by requiring only a single noise level. We evaluate the robustness of our approach on generative modeling of antibody proteins and introduce the distributional conformity score to benchmark protein generative models. By optimizing and sampling from our models for the proposed distributional conformity score, 97-100% of generated samples are successfully expressed and purified and 70% of functional designs show equal or improved binding affinity compared to known functional antibodies on the first attempt in a single round of laboratory experiments. We also report the first demonstration of long-run fast-mixing MCMC chains where diverse antibody protein classes are visited in a single MCMC chain. © 2024 12th International Conference on Learning Representations, ICLR 2024. With the increasing water shortage and climatic uncertainty, creative strategies for effective water management in agriculture are necessary. This research investigates the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), with solar-powered Internet of Things (IoT) networks to enhance water utilization in agricultural activities. The proposed system facilitates accurate irrigation scheduling using real-time data from soil moisture sensors, meteorological stations, and crop health monitoring devices. The ANN model analyses this data to predict ideal irrigation schedules and volumes, minimizing water waste while improving crop yields. The solar-powered IoT framework provides sustainability and reduces dependence on traditional energy sources. Field trials indicate that the AI-enhanced system may promote water saving by as much as 30% relative to traditional irrigation techniques. Moreover, using AI enables adaptive learning, enabling the system to enhance its irrigation tactics using historical and real-time data. This novel method conserves water resources and fosters sustainable agriculture practices, coinciding with global initiatives to address water shortages and assure food security. The findings underscore the potential of technology-based solutions to revolutionize agricultural water management for a sustainable future. © 2025 IEEE.

In this experiment, high-temperature polyethylene terephthalate (PT) was mixed with epoxy resin (ER) that had been thinned with acetone. Sisal fibers were coated with the resulting product. Composites of Coated treated sisal fibre-reinforced PT (CTSF-PT) were made using a constant fiber loading of 10 wt% and processing temperatures of 230, 250, and 270ºC. The fibers were treated with NaOH. These composites were then characterized for thermal, mechanical and morphological performances. When comparing findings obtained at 250 and 270ºC, the optimal processing temperature was found to be 230ºC. This temperature resulted in the best thermal and mechanical properties, and excellent interfacial adhesion among the coated fibers and the PT. In comparison to the uncoated SF, the coated composites showed a 9.5% reduction in degradation onset temperature and a 13% improvement in decomposition temperature following resin coating, according to thermogravimetric analysis. The CSF-PT composites surpassed the uncoated composites by 2.18% and 2.8% in terms of glass transition (Tg) and melting temperature (Tm) measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), with peak values at 122.2 °C and 265.1 °C, respectively. Coated Sisal-reinforced PT (CSF-PT) and coated-treated PT (CTSF-PT) composites outperformed raw Sisal (SF-PT) composites in terms of overall qualities and morphological properties, regardless of processing temperature. Applying resin to natural fibers enhances their heat resistance and the bond between the coated fibers and the plastic matrix, making them better suited for engineering plastic composites. Applications involving high temperatures, such as construction and automotive industries are well-suited to the resulting composites. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Tip burn is a common calcium deficiency symptom found in strawberry leaves, which can deform, fold over, and discolor the tips or edges of budding leaves. To help farmers detect diseases early and manage their crops more effectively, this work aims to build a solution that employs image processing and machine learning techniques to detect tip burn in strawberry leaves on a farm. The proposed work utilizes a dataset of 1431 images of ‘diseased’ and ‘healthy’ strawberry leaves. A Random Forest classifier, which is an ensemble learning model built on decision trees, CNN, or convolutional neural networks, and VGG-16, a transfer learning-based approach were all fitted in the PySpark environment to assess the feasibility and scalability of using Spark for distributed computing. The results indicate the deep learning approaches outperformed the traditional machine learning approach in accuracy and execution speed, making them a promising tool for identifying tip burn diseases in strawberry leaves. Overall, this work provides farmers with a fast, feasible, and reliable method for detecting tip burn, aiding in crop management, and reducing crop loss. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Restaurant cash registers frequently experience fraudulent transactions, leading to substantial financial losses for operators. Despite several methods aimed at preventing fraud at the cash register, addressing this issue remains an ongoing concern. In this study, machine learning methods are used to detect fraudulent transactions at the cash register in fast-food restaurants. By using POS logs, transactions in restaurants are recorded and these logs are analyzed to detect fraudulent transactions on an unbalanced dataset. Random forest, XGBoost and LGBM algorithms are used in the study and different resampling techniques (ADASYN etc.) are applied to improve the performance of these algorithms. In addition, it is aimed to find the best parameters with the randomized search method. In conclusion, this study offers a solution for detecting fraudulent transactions at the cash register in fast-food restaurants. The results of the study are promising in its current state. © 2023 IEEE.

Maintaining high prediction accuracy with varying grid topologies poses a significant challenge to adopting neural network (NN)-based approaches for power flow (PF) estimation in medium-voltage direct current (MVDC) distribution systems. This paper proposes a physics-embedded fully convolutional network (PEFCN) to improve the accuracy. Physics-embedded techniques are incorporated in the proposed PEFCN through 1) architecture reconstruction, and 2) loss function reformulation. Architecture is reconstructed by input channel conversion calculation in a new physics operation layer. This process offers physical connections among the three input matrix channels (voltage, current, and line conductance). Three new physics loss terms are included in the loss function to restrict the outliers violating the limits of converter power ratings and terminal MVDC voltages. The two operations enable the FCN to achieve improved prediction accuracy and strong generalization capabilities. Five MVDC distribution systems, characterized by different dc voltage levels and topology configurations, serve to validate the superiority of the proposed PEFCN over other NNs in the PF estimation for scenarios involving both fixed and varying system structures. Moreover, a modified IEEE 69-bus distribution system is further used to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed PEFCN for larger systems. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Understanding the mechanistic interpretability of mutation effects in a protein can help predict the clinical implications of the genetic variants. Hence, computational variant effect predictions that involve protein structural features of the protein mutations might be suitable in this case. In this work, we focus on BRCT domains of BRCA1 gene that is widely studied in breast cancer studies. We retrieved 88 selected missense variants found in BRCT domains annotated in both ClinVar and gnomAD databases. To computationally characterize the pathogenic property of the mutations we used two types of features extracted from protein structures: a change in free Gibbs energy and a set of features derived from molecular dynamics simulations of each mutant. Using a dimensional reduction and Gaussian mixture model (GMM)-based clustering we demonstrate that the variants are segregated into two regions that may correspond to their pathogenic status. This method can be a potential computational pipeline for providing the preliminary mechanistic interpretation of mutation effects in terms of their thermodynamic and structural features. © 2023 IEEE.
